In this week's Creatures Online update, the team did a lot of debugging, including fixing a bug named for Benjamin Button, where norns exit the splicing machine younger than they were before. ![[nsurprised] [nsurprised]](/images/smilies/emot_surprised.gif) |
To (belatedly) celebrate Valentine's Day, I decided to make a new variety of Colorful Grendels to add some love to your grendel gene pool!
The Sweetheart Colorful Grendels are known for being friendly to the point that they can feed just by playing with other creatures. They're also more social than the standard and can breed starting at adolescence. Just make sure to keep them away from Hardman Norns; they're such lovers that fighting is something they're incapable of doing. |

Have you ever wished that the font from Creatures 1 and Creatures 2 could be used in C3/DS? Wish granted! This new download includes all of the necessary image files to replace the font in Creatures 3 and/or Docking Station with the original Creatures font. It isn't just the standard numbers and letters that are included, either: All characters previously defined in C3/DS have been carried over and recreated in the same style as the original font!
You can grab the download directly at Creatures Caves here and find out more information about the font at Discover Albia.
Enjoy bringing another little element of C1/C2 into C3/DS! |
In this week's Creatures Online update, a massive debug has just gone underway in preparation for more playtesting. In addition, the Creatures Collection screen (pictures) and the menus where we will access many of the game's features have undergone a makeover! |
In this week's Creatures Online update, the splicing machine is now functional. The more genes we change in the splicing machine, the longer it will take to splice.
While after the main tutorial is done, Creatures Online will have a sandbox feel, when leveling up or completing new entries in the Norn collection, we will unlock new genes. |
After nearly a year of waiting, the Discover Albia genetics team has a new genetics lesson! This new lesson looks at appearance genes, as well as the compulsory header gene. It's not particularly deep nor complex, but hopefully it will get some people interested in genetics again! There is a mini-lesson planned for the near future, featuring Gene Gnome's attempts to wreak havoc on these genes and create as many problems as possible. Will he succeed? You be the judge: Read on for an analysis of these genes, and check back soon for the results of Gene's experiments! |
In this week's weekly update, the team has continued to polish the splicing machine, and the social networks integration. (Pictured is the Facebook and Twitter integration for sharing that you've gained a level.) The team are working on one of the last features planned for release, which is the ability to visit your friends' worlds.
Fishing Cactus is moving to a newly-constructed office, which they are very excited about, as developing in an old window-less truck depot for 3+ years has lost its charm.
Andrea Di Stefano is leaving Fishing Cactus at the end of January. Starting next month, Fishing Cactus CEO Bruno Urbain will personally oversee the development of Creatures Online, and Andrea is doing all he can to make sure that the transition is smooth. |
In this week's Creatures Online update, a small part of the team has worked over the Christmas break on what the team hope will be a beta candidate.
The team is trying to make the splicing machine easier to use, and is creating gene packs to be sold in the shop.
Social networking support for Twitter and Facebook is being added, letting us share important events, and add our friends.

Mea has decided to post the progress of her newest metaroom background, the Fire & Ice Lake, here on Creatures Caves. This metaroom background will be completely drawn and colored by hand in various computer art programs, like Chione's background. The basic idea for this metaroom is a freshwater lake formed between a glacier & a hotspring. I decided to make a freshwater pond or lake after reading all the comments about a lack of freshwater metarooms. I couldn't think of any ideas for a normal ordinary lake, so I decided to go with this idea when it occurred to me.
Feel free to post comments, suggestions & questions. I'll answer what I can, & who knows, maybe a few of the suggestions will make it into the final background. So far, we have seen the starting sketches, and been shown how to tweak the sketch to make sure that norns will be able to move freely in the metaroom. Pictured here is Mea's mascot, Lady Borgetta, squeezing through a formerly tight gap. We've also been shown how to avoid wall-climbing problems in the room, by squaring off the corners.
Stay tuned for more in Mea's Fire & Ice Lake topic! |
To end 2013 with a bang, a few releases are now available over at the Realm! There's a brand new genetic breed, the Reef Gliders, as well as updates to the Deep Abyss and Chione!
I hope you enjoy the releases and have a happy new year! Try not to drown in all the exclamation points. |
Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone! As a gift to the Creatures Caves community, there are now two new Creatchi items: carrot and rubber ducky. Santa has given current Creatchi owners two of each to help make their Creatchi's Christmas a little more merry. Enjoy!

Happy holidays, everyone! It looks like Santa Norn has arrived at Creatures Caves a day early this year: Have some festive fun by building a snowman for you and your creatures to enjoy. This agent comes complete with snowball, carrot, stick and coal dispensers for all your decorative needs. Psst, click the snowballs to make them bigger! The carrots are also edible, so be sure to watch them around your Norns!
[Download Build-a-Snowman for DS]
Please be aware that this beta version is by no means perfect, as there are still some bugs present, but now we want to spend time with our families. However, we'll be back to have another tinker with it after Christmas, so feel free to report any issues! |
In this week's Creatures Online update, the Creatures Online team has got the results from the playtest.
The playtest focused on the first few minutes of the game, and the ergonomics. Happily, the players found the game quite easy to manipulate considering it’s a 3D game with dynamic camera and living creatures going about their business.
The next item on the agenda is the long-term value of the game and monetization - more information to be revealed next month! |
In this fortnight's Creatures Online update, the Creatures Online team has been working on the playtest build, fixing tons of things ranging from visual polish to under-the-hood improvements, texts, localization (playtest is conducted in France) etc.
The playtest seems to be going so far so good, people seem to like what they’re playing.
Pictured is a preview showing a very sad Norn and how his reward/punish bubble looks at the moment. |

My blog is turning one year old today and I wanted to celebrate by opening the Daily Creature Feature stream officially! At 2 PM (Pacific Standard Time) today, the Daily Creature Feature will open and the creatures will be loaded up.
Thank you to Grendel Man, Clohse, Malkin, Jessica, KittyTikara and Missmysterics for submitting your creatures! I’d like to thank Jessica especially for letting me take in so many CreatureLink creatures to help get the stream started.
Remember, I'm always taking in creatures for the stream so keep them coming! You can find information on what creatures I'm taking and how to get them included on the stream page or here on the forum. |
