Creatures Online in Hibernation Laura | 11/2/2015 | | Today we've learned the disappointing (but maybe unsurprising to some) news that development on Creatures Online has been suspended due to a lack of funding. The original source of this announcement can be found on the French website, Pockett Videogames, but here's a rough translation:
Originally released in 1996, Creatures is an artificial life program by Steve Grand, who worked for Millennium Interactive at the time. It was followed by Creatures 2 in 1998, and Creatures 3 in 1999. These games had marked many players. After a long wait, we were expecting much from Creatures Online by Fishing Cactus (development team) and ProSieben Games and Bigben Interactive (publishers). The project continued to move in April, but according to our information, development is now on standby due to lack of funding. However, various companies continue to announce and mention Creatures Online on their respective websites. The game was announced on iPhone/iPad, Android and PC/Mac. Hopefully a solution will be found!
So, what's next for Creatures Online? Come and discuss your theories and thoughts on this latest development in the forums! |

The graphics for one, and looking at the other games of theirs, they seem a pretty awful game company. But you're right, the game would attract more people.... I still think it won't be good though.

Thank you.

Sorry TrellyDawn, I've edited my comment to be a bit less harsh.

Oi, there's no need to be rude, C-Rex. Everyone is welcome to their opinions. You don't have to agree, but lets please be civil?

ILovegrendels, the game would at least have attracted new players to the game, and how do you know it would have been bad without actually playing it?

I recall the community actually being reassured when they were told that the norns would be very much like how they were in the previous creatures games in terms of brains and genetics and such because one of the main worries of the community seemed to be if FC would make the norns too different from the previous games, and end up with them being more like Sims than norns. I don't see how it is a negative that they actually addressed one of the concerns of the community and got help from cyberlife so they wouldn't be possibly able to mess up on the norns as far as the artificial life side is concerned.

They didn't steal the code, they were given the code so they could do norns properly.
I was hyping about this game all summer because it was nearly time for release

Oh the fury on the Facebook page is going to be entertaining for days!

Disappointing? Rejoiceworthy! Let's hope they go bankrupt and someone with brains takes over. Did you know that fishing cactus can't even write simple norn brain code? They stole all Cyberlife's code!

Only for now, maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves?
