Favourite parts of the worlds?

Any or all games, parts as large or small as you like.

In C1, it's hard for me to pick, the whole world is full of beautiful areas. I most enjoy small parts of it, like the subterranean painting gallery, and even smaller details, like the kite stuck in the tree above the garden.

In C2, my favourite area is the whole tree house in front of the big waterfall, down to the ground by the waterwheel. The statue, splicer, potion room, and that closable bubble are also favourites.

C3 and DS are pretty hard to pick, they seem so bland compared to the previous games, especially C1, more or less devoid of character and little details. I like the organic look of the ship's structure and the large lung, and the airlocks are fun, but nothing in the desert, jungle, forest, or beach have any of the heart and personality of the hand-made world. C3 lovers, please don't kill me!

I agree, C3/DS just doesn't hold a candle to the previous games. Sort of changed everything, especially how I imagined the Shee and their technology. I liked the sort of "lost world" feel of the previous games over the high-tech spaceship, and the change in Norns is rather jarring when you compare them. Not that I don't love C3/DS and its Norns, it's just not the same as Albia. That said, I love the Norn terrarium, especially the music and the little tree-house area and the crypt.

Personally, C1 is just my favourite. The whole thing. It was my first taste of Creatures, I practically grew up on C1! The original creatures and the little disc planet with all the wonderful things inside it. I only wish it was bigger, haha. And had more breed slots. I've always wondered if there was a way to alter the game to have more slots...

And C2, which has always had that sort of eerie lost quality to it. A bit less warmth and less of the home-y feel of Creatures, but more mystery and almost a sense of desperation to repopulate Albia. After all, it is implied that the Norns you raised to repopulate Albia the first time are long gone after the disasters that struck the little disc planet, and I'll be frank here. The C2 Norns are blooming adorable.

I reconcile the variation between the C1/2 Shee, the C3 Shee, and that ghastly Jak and Daxter c4 Shee with the reasoning that each Shee engineers his/herself (or their children) to their tastes!

I agree, that lost world feel is brilliant, in C1 like they're only just left and a cup of tea you find might still be lukewarm, and in c2, much more desolate and lonely and overgrown.

And the norn designs, yeah, I've never gotten fond of the look of the C3 norns, though there have been some cool breeds (my favourites are the chichis, harlequins, and zebras) I'd love to see that look on c2 norns (the ones I grew up with!

Do you have C12DS? That'd be one way to have that world but with more breed slots!

Ahh, that's an interesting take on it! I like to imagine all sorts of different things for the Shee, though I tend to default to the idea that they're all multi-coloured fur and wispy white hair, pronounced and mildly Nornish features.

That's exactly it! I also somewhat wish the games had been a bit more like the promo images; almost reminded me of games like Myst and whatnot... Abandoned temples and lush forests, and now you've just knocked the old technology into working again! That would have been a lot of fun I think.

Definitely. There are plenty of fantastic creatures in C3/DS, but the C1/C2 creatures will always be the best. And the Nornverter! I was really bummed that you couldn't put the C2 Norns into C3 like you could with putting C1 Norns into C2. Ahh, nostalgia.

C12DS is honestly brilliant, and I love all the different ways people have ported the games together, but the Norn mechanics stay the same. Nothing quite tops how the original Creatures acted in my opinion. Just needy enough to keep you involved and on your toes!

Silly, predictable me, my favorite part of the world of Creatures, out of all of the games, is the island in C1. :)

I think my favourite spots are the jungle temple, and the lighthouse/observatory in C1.

I've never found C3's area any less likeable than the previous titles, like everyone else seems to, possibly because I have a thing for SF, even as a child when I hadn't yet found out about thing like Star Trek, I just liked the idea of being in a spaceship.
It does have fewer curious background details to invent stories about though. C1 has so much hidden stuff you never really stop finding curious details like sunken chests or little statues.

I imagined them all being shades of blue and green with long faces (until that ugly looking C3 one) and a sort of grey alien/ reptile look about them (due to the claws on the C2 statue) and much smaller eyes than the C3 one (due to the cool looking Shee on the C2 laptop) and din't even think about hair. I like the idea that they were a rainbow of colours, makes sense since that can happen in their creations. The genetic alteration thing might be semi cannon, what with the Banshee and all!

Ah, a Mystlike Creatures game would be sweet! In a decade or two when we've all got vr headsets and photo real 3d graphics, that's what I'll be waiting for with Creatures 9.

The island is pretty sweet too! I have such trouble getting them to that top deck, let alone staying there, but it's nice to have a constant food supply.

I love that little temple (the one with the piano in it?) it's funny in C1toDS because the DS norns are so much bigger, they just walk on top of it.

I like the realistic look of the areas in C3, and since I grew up with C3 I like it a little more than C1/C2. I think my favourite part is the whole Bridge area, since I imagine I'm in the ship looking out the windows haha. I just think spaceships are so cool, and the ark is not only a spaceship but a LIVING spaceship???? awesome. I bet you could hear or even feel a heartbeat in some places in the bridge, since there is a lung is right next door in engineering...

I still think the world and creature designs in all games are fantastic though. As for shee, I imagined them with a long snouty face with gold scaly skin and long nornish ears. The idea that they genetically alter themselves is great, and works with canon since the shees we've seen have been pretty different from each other (assuming that ugly thing in the C3 title screen is a shee).

The whole series has a mysterious and eerie feel to it, since the premise is taking care of the experiments of an absent society. The feel to the C1 intro video was CRAZY and captured that mysterious feel the first time I saw it. aaggh I just love the whole series so much and I love that they went into such a good atmosphere to games that could have just been a pet raising/AI sim. /rant

For C1: The garden

For C2: The desert

For C3: Hard choice, but I'm probably going for the crypt, it just looks pretty ok.

For DS: Comms room

For Console: The generic merged-world experience, I'd love to see someone try to port the console worlds to C3/DS.

Is it weird that I liked the long-faced Shee the least, out of all the permutations we've seen? They just looked rather unpersonable... creeped me out as a kid.

My favorite places in C1 were the "catacombs" under the temple, and the cave nearby (I always thought of them as sort of one area). They always struck me as slightly spooky, the sort of places where you'd almost expect to discover a secret passage if you clicked around enough...

For C2 it's hard to choose. I guess my top favorite would be the treehouse "village" hidden in the swamp. But I also loved the little office area above the Shee statue.

C3 definitely doesn't have as much "character". I agree that a lot of the C1 and C2 worlds do have a sort of "lost world" vibe, like you're rediscovering little secrets as you explore around. As far as C3 goes though, I do like the area around the Norn crypt, and the rock formations in the Desert Terrarium.

I don't have a favorite area in C1? C1 is mostly a giant yellow blurr to me. It's sort of... boring compared to C2. I haven't played C1 that much, compared to DS, so maybe that's a part of the problem. The main reason I play C1 is for the Norns, and not the world.

C2 would be my perfect Creatures game, if it didn't crash so much and if the ecology wasn't so weird for Norns to deal with. Each area in it has it's own feel, and they all mesh together fairly well. My favorite area in it would have to be the whole area around the water fall, especially with the cob that adds bridges in that area. It's just so pretty, and at the very bottom of the waterfall is the garden area. That's where I like to spend most of my time in the game.

Even though C3/DS was my first Creatures game, it's sort of boring. The Norn Terrarium and the Bridge/engineering are my two favorite areas though. The Norn Terrarium has all sorts of neat background details, and it really seems like they spent most of their time on it and not the other rooms. The Bridge has neat things the mess with and the medbay is extremely useful. The rest of the rooms are okay, to forgettable. Without the warp, I've almost forgotten what half the things do in the comms and workshop rooms.

C1 is my sentimental favorite Albia, and I kind of wish I could have a house like the little cottage that houses the incubator--sunflowers are my favorite flowers next to daffodils, so that's probably why, and the catacombs with the paintings and raft were so moody and cool. I also liked the Grendel Tree because of the ambient sounds and the submarine noises. I have dreams about it sometimes! Plus the music is lovely.

I love the waterfall in C2, and the aquatic room in C3. I like the look of C3 in the livable areas, but everything else is just so cold... [nsleepy] I like putting flower agents around the bridge and engineering room to lighten the place up a bit, lol.

In C1, I love the garden and the little house with the stove and the coffee inside. The clock is always soothing to listen to and it just feels like a pleasant place to be. I also appreciate many of the other areas, as well.

C2 has so many favorite parts. I love the bridge, the tree(Yggdrasil was it called?) with the calender on it, the area with the waterfall and waterwheel, and...well, again, there's so many favorite areas I can't list them all!

C3 I like the Norn Terrarium, the little pond where the kingfisher is catching the fish. That's mostly it I guess, I guess C3 doesn't have as many favorite parts for me.

In C2 I love the little biodome/bubble areas underneath the Island, the waterwheel area, and the place with the big mushrooms.

I agree that C3/DS backgrounds have less character for me. I never thought about it before! :o
