Currently I'm lightly modding Creatures Adventures and I'd just thought that I would post it here as it's the only place that seems to still be 'alive' in the Creatures community.
So far I've managed to:
+ Fix all foods that were once inedible like the Marrow and Sweets and have them cause effects on the Norns
+ Import the Tiger/Okapi Norns from CV
+ Create several new agents
+ Increase the limit of Norns at any one time as well as birth limits
+ Smooth out a lot of bugs and slightly improved the use of facial expressions
+ Made hot food and clothes warm up the creature to an extent that it was actually noticeable, but not too drastic
+ Sped up a lot of mechanics such as seed pouring to speed up gameplay
+ Fixed some bugs in general and made more things interactive
Mostly doing it because I'm bored, but if anyone out there still plays this game it would make me happy to give this to you when it's done.

Sounds great! Do you own Creatures Village too, its just that it suffers from a problem that stops any background music playing. |

I sometimes play CA. Awesome to hear somebody started developing for it. Just a question; how do you add cosfiles to CA? I know there isn't any sort of agent injector, so do you put them in a folder then start a new world? What folder? |

In theory it should be possible to write an agent injector. Long, annoying and very likely to crash the game several times, but possible.

What I really found annoying back when I was modding CV was the complete lack of the JECT command. I remember I managed to replicate the CAOS command line in the game, but I still had to reload the world anytime I wanted to test a newly edited cosfile. I'm curious if you've found any way around this. Actually, I'm also kind of curious if there's much of a difference between the CA engine and the CP/CV engine.
Grendel Man has also done some CV modding, as have I, detailed in this Ctopia thread, if you're interested. I think there was a similar thread on CV modding here once, but I can't seem to find it.

There's a huge reason why I prefer CA over CV/CP currently, and that's because the CV engine seems to lack the ability for facial expressions to be shown. Whilst Norns can appear happy/angry and much more in CA the expressions in CV are limited to a 'standard face' and only about 4 others.
I've been trying to work out how to fix this for ages; I've tampered with genetics and changed quite a lot of things to no avail. If anyone has any clue why this is, help would be greatly appreciated. |

With regards to injecting agents, you really don't have to. All you need to do is create a [.cos] file containing all relevant info and place the sound/image files in their respective folders. However, most classifiers and other important aspects used in agent making are different in CA when compared to C3, so you'll have to learn them again.
As a fresh update for what I've done which currently isn't much - (but believe me it took way longer than you would think due to small bugs) here is a list:
+ Fully functioning Tiger/Okapi Norns
+ Soccer ball and several other new agents
+ Extension of night time and Norn limit
+ Chemicals are actually effective now
+ Happy expression not used now when in pain
+ [Slightly] Improved performance
The biggest is the optimization of agents and files. Previously, some objects in the world such as the Chandelier or Skateboard were coded incorrectly and thus didn't perform as they should. The chandelier for instance would start swaying rapidly with a somewhat irritating sound looping while doing so. You could not turn this off. In terms of the skateboard, you could not control the direction in which it went.
All the agents that were previously 'broken' are now fixed and should work as intended. I also added my own parts in every now and then to make gameplay a little more fun.

Sounds fantastic! When are you posting a download link? Also, is it compatible with Creatures Village? |

It isn't exactly compatible with Creatures Village but to complete the same changes to CV would be much easier so it wouldn't be a problem.
As for the music system, the only way I know how to get around it is to simply enable compatibility for Windows 98 and then while the screen is black (loading) press control alt delete. For some reason it acts as if it bypasses something and the music will work - 100% of the time for me.
I'm not too sure when I post it but it won't be too long. The only problem I'm facing right now is that all the 'new' agents I've created use images from C3/CV objects. Being that this is true, they don't feel too special but some of them do work very differently in terms of code. |

Thanks Auxin, it works! By the way, don't you think that Gameware development kind of 'broke' Creatures Adventures and Creatures Playground when they merged them together as Creatures Village? I've noticed a lot of features from Creatures Adventures are missing in Creatures Village, mainly the parental controls. |

Yes, I really dislike Creatures Village. Not only is what you're saying very true but the Norns live way too long for such a game especially with the standard limit of 4. The genetics are also terrible compared to both CA and CP standalone. Of course this can be fixed, but it would be very tough work to get the job well done.
The loss of Parental Controls also annoyed me a lot; I still have no idea why that decided to get rid of it.
A while back I actually emailed them about this disappointment and they replied that they'd forward it to 'people in higher command' or something like that but I never received a response.
Finally, as a side note the Creatures Village engine can support advanced genetics as when I placed the C3 ones in they worked perfectly - although the Creatures used expressions and were a lot more 'real' they did not fit in well enough and didn't use many of the worlds objects. Many years ago I tried placing the CA ones over the CV ones but for an unknown reason this did not fix the problem. I tried this again just today but still to no avail, even after looking at almost every cos file and genetic string. |
