That's dead floating in space. D;
I don't know why.... It just never got a proper burial. >< |

You know, I'm not sure, although I've often wondered the same thing. Funny how widespread of a phenomenon it is though.

Yeah.
It had never occured to me it was in the sky even after I saw it as all the dead norn's pictres in their history. One day I wanted to see if I could put stuff outside the ship, and saw it. I've wondered ever since. |

I've seen that little guy too. I wanted to get him down from there somehow and give him a proper burial...but he's endlessly stuck out amongst the stars.

apparently outside the shee ark there is a floating dead meerk. I THINK.

This is the meerk everyone's talking about.
Frankly, I find the dead meerk more annoying than anything. Like Arnout said, you can kill hots it, but you're just as likely to kill your GUI doing so.
I don't know how it wound up there, but there's probably something in the Meerk's death script that causes this.

In case anyone cares, I've been looking at the meerk's coding, and found out the most likely cause of this problem.
In the digging subroutine, the meerk gets moved to the coordinates "0, 0" after it is finished digging the hole. And coincidentally, point 0 0 is that spot in space where the dead meerk is often sighted.
So, here's my theory: A meerk digs a hole, and gets moved to point 0 0, or the spot in space. When it is here, it uses an invisible sprite so that its presence isn't obvious.
However, said meerk has a very low energy level, which doesn't stop dropping when it's underground. When its energy level hits 0, the meerk dies, triggering the death animation. In doing so, the meerk is made visible, and the final result is that dead meerk in space.
I'm working on fixing this issue, and if you're all interested I can post the fix here or send it to Marienn so it gets hosted on Creatures@CU7 (my current web hoster).
On a rather off-topic note, the bubbles are the favorite place icon for the metaroom Aquatopia. I'm working on a version of the metaroom that works with C3 standalone (the original was restricted to DS standalone or DS docked).

So it's just a Meerk that died while it was "in" its burrow. That makes a lot of sense. Kind of silly though.

That's also how the floating eggs glitch in C1 happened, the egg got sent to 0 0.
Yes the meerk does, pose 144.

Find what it uses for it's energy level, (Perhaps subv ov02 1 is the counter for the energy level? I checked only briefly.) and have the meerk set a variable when it digs, and remove that variable when it comes up, and just place a doif block around the subtraction from energy that checks to see if that variable is set a certain way before removing energy, so it doesn't die in it's hole anymore. That should eliminate 99.99% of meerk floating dead space appearances. :-) |

WOW, that was just so awesome. I say what you said is awesome because I love math and long explanations. What's even more awesome is that most of the people in my class, would read the first line, and then go, 'WTF or what?'.
It makes me happy to see people write such long paragraphs.
Also, I can see how that would work.

If I'm interpreting the code right, they don't seem to really hunt for the balloon bugs either - they just seem to blindly run into them and eat them that way. :/

Improperly coded, or used in abundance, scripts which give agents the ability to actually track and/or "hunt" can be memory intensive. If it is true the Meerk doesn't hunt, CL must have decided that it was best for all of us if such a small and insignificant animal, in one of the four ecosystems shipped with C3, didn't leave such a large memory footprint (save for its dead carcass floating about in space... XD) |

Ah, I see. The Balloon Bugs hop around the ground enough to get eaten by a canny Meerk. I've figured out that the Balloon Bugs sip from any kind of flowers and are attracted to them - so placing one of TwilightCat's Tea Time Plants underneath the Meerk chute (pictured) can be an effective way of making sure a newly hatched Meerk has its first feed.
Investigating further on the Balloon Bug, it seems they can't die unless eaten by a Meerk - which is probably why they always end up in swarms in the Ettin Desert.

Why do CLabs consistently come up with floating things in their games?
C1: The lemons. Oh, the lemons.
C2 Ettin corpses (in my Albia anyway), and to a lesser extent, caterpillars.
C3: The Meerk
Anyone want to bet what the floating object will be if C4 ever comes out? |

Wiimeiser

|
3/21/2010 | |
Well, if C4 is 3D it may use Havok physics, in which case virtually every physics-affected object will float until the Havok for that area is loaded. Oblivion Corpse Glitch anyone?

It sure is, Arnout. If only I could make a Meerk vending machine...
Also, the dead Meerk will be in a Creatures/Invader Zim/Pokémon fic I may or may not write. I'm currently working on the first chapter, so I'm nowhere near the Meerk part yet, and I'm not sure who should point it out. Maybe Dib should, it seems in character for him.
