Well, the topic should explain it.
This is for any weird norn events.
Mine, I killed a norn, accidentally, of course, and she had many mates, children, and friends.
There was a large gathering, and it's right next to the empathic vendor.
Suddenly, a child of hers, begins complaining about boredom.
Another, hunger,
So, guess what, the vendor,
caters to the needy....
Soon, they all begin to munch down at the funeral, now ignoring the corpse.....
Even stranger, well, I make mostly female world, and this isn't the strange part, but, there are so many unhatched eggs!
I think the children are playing with them!
(Thank god I didn't put in any trasher plants....)

My norns never do some weird things, watching them makes me sleepy.... |

Trasher plant + Norns playing with egg = eggy go bye bye! (Egg abortion, which, is the intended purpose)
Anyways, now, the norns we mating, right next to the corpse! At a funeral! In public!

And? We are talking about Norns. Norns do such, they don't care much about funerals.
Sometimes mine try to mate with the corpse, but else not...

The empathic vendor seems to be quite a gathering place for creatures regardless of the occasion, just because of the plentiful amount of food there. I don't suppose the corpse has anything to do with it (I'm not even sure if creatures' brains give them the ability to tell that a creature is dead, though I think they might get stim'd for disappointment if they try to hit/push a dead norn).
I have had some odd behavior in one of my mixed worlds lately-- one of my grendels follows one of my norns around absolutely religiously. I've never seen two creatures stick together so much, let alone such an unlikely pair. I keep a close eye on them in case grendel instincts kick in, but they seem to get along well enough (most of the time).

Usually if a Creature in one of my worlds dies and another is nearby, the survivor gets this shocked expression, raises their hands to their face in alarm, and high-steps backwards away from the corpse. I've seen it happen too many times to think it's random coincidence. Maybe there's a script that stims neighboring Creatures something unpleasant when a Creature dies, or something.
But I don't think they can tell that a dead Creature is actually dead. They just keep trying to interact with it until they eventually get bored and wander off.

I've often found Norns to have "crazes" where they keep on saying that they like a certain Norn. I once had a C3 world with many Norns in, and one of them happened to be called Knuckles. For some reason, all of the Norns near Knuckles kept on saying "Me like Knuckles." which must have been very flattering! Sadly, Knuclkes died a short while after, but luckily the craze was over, otherwise the other Norns might have sent me death threats for not making him immortal! |

If you want to avoid a huge backlog of eggs, try for a mostly male world instead.

In my lastest wolfling run, I accepted some norns from the warp, and two of the that were in the baby stage began walking in unison, taking the same steps at the same time. I thought it was rather odd.

Speaking about doing things in unison, I just remembered something that happened two days ago.
I was playing with a family of Bengals including a mom, dad and a son and daughter. They had other kids but they were off riding the incubator area elevator up and down. The mother was standing by the treehouse elevator lift button. Her son was sleeping in the grass next to her and her daughter was nearby. The father was over near the rock.
First the mother picked up an apple off the ground. Immediately the daughter walked over to where the mother was standing and picked the apple out of her hand. The mother took it. Then the daughter took it. Then the mother took it. Then the daughter took it. This went on eight times. Then the son woke up, positioned himself so that he was standing next to them and all three were facing left, and he took it. Then the mother took it. Then the daughter took it. Then the mother took it. Then he took it. Then--believe it or not--the father came over to see what was going on. He positioned himself exactly as they were, facing left, and then he took the apple! Then his daughter took it, then the mother took it, then the son took it, and so on. I was laughing so hard by this point. I typed "what" and they all replied simultaneously, "eat apple"!
Finally I took the apple, intending to get it away from them, but the daughter stole it from me! I had to carry the other Norns up and put them in the treehouse so the mother could finally eat it in peace. The others went on to find their own apples.
I wish I had recording software because the whole thing was hilarious.

@Ghosthande: That just sounds like the funniest thing ever XD I swear sometimes creatures are smarter than we take them for...
@Rainbowcat: Wow, like mental twins, how weird.
And on the subject of egg backlog-- I actually run an all-female pet world that I breed with the inseminator to keep the population completely in my control. It's not very... natural, but it's a pretty interesting experience.

Thanks for the advice.
I just found hundreds of norns (I've had the wolfin run on play for a while, they got intelligent enough to avoid dying too much..... In fact only 3 deaths!)
Well not hundreds, just a bunch, and, there are many, doing strange things. Only a few even remember the original language!
You guys have interesting stories.
EDIT: I found a norn named 'Dietward'

Weird....
My norns have been saying 'eat elevator', and 'eat door'......
Even worse, they're trying to hit the elevator, that's on the 3rd floor of the meso.....

@rainbowcat: the same thing happened to me! they were sent from the same user, forget who, looked like twins, chichi and poodle ettin.
I was doing a wolfing run,. so when i checked it in the morning, all my norns were crowded around (as i can tell so far) last ettin in the meso, saying hit ettin or me dislike ettin. the ettin was obviously hurt and scared, running towards the door to the norngarden, where the ettins lived, so he got to the norngarden and all the norns came in after him. they brutally killed every last remaining ettin .

Wow, gumbo splat....
That happens, like, pretty much every norn is next to the emp vendor. Then, there are those in the jungle (bottom floor of norn meso), and only 1-2 on the top floor.
Sadly, they saw me vend food at the emp vendor, and suddenly, they all try to push buttons, and a couple said the words to get it to give food, and the others started trying to get food with words, mostly saying 'seed'.....
Somehow my norns survive, and overpopulate, even with little food....

@ Arnout i once put on the smell detector under the sea and made it the apple and it gave a high reading so your norns probably smelt the fruit.

One of my Norns complained of being in pain, and another Norn (of a genome I'm working on) told him to "look self". I thought this was bizarre, and maybe a product of the engineering I'd been doing, except I've now had first-gen Chichi Norns say the same thing. I've never seen this response before--is this normal?

My Generation 2 CV Okapi norn, get,s mad when she is friendly, and she is happy again when she mated.

She,s allways slapping other norns when she is angry/friendly. Maybe she have got a mutation in her instincts too, like: Slap norn if friendly or Slap norn if Angry.
Her daughter night got this too, and the daughter of night got this strange behaviour too.
Maybe her children will evolve a baby defending behaviour...
- Female get,s agressiv when pregnant.
- Female defends baby norns against agressiv creatures.
- Male defends the whole family allways.
By the way, she is the daughter of the norn in my Avatar. I,m serious.
That norn in my avatar is Orange.
I could put a part of the family in the Adoption page, from this website.
Her daughter: Apple, is strange too.....
Apple was wanting more brothers and sisters, so she tried to take cupid,s lyre to her mom and dad!

Sounds like she's got PMS.
I don't know if this qualifies as strange, but it was extremely cute--my Norns got into another "me like" marathon, except they were saying "me love hand". It was SO cute.

OK, here's some strange Norn behavior.
I find two Norns in the Warp room, beating the crud out of each other. Meanwhile one keeps repeating, "me like Norn, me like Norn" over and over again. While he beats the stuffing out of the other Norn. Who is also beating the stuffing out of him, and occasionally proclaiming "me dislike Norn".
[edit] Okay all I have to say is HOLY COW.
I have a DEAD NORN walking around my world. I kid you not. It is DEAD, I heard it whimper, its eyes are closed, it's disappeared from the creature selector screen and I can't select it. But it is WALKING AROUND.
It just does the same thing again and again: kind of limp-walks toward the left, jerks backward as if it's been hit, raises its hands to its face, tiptoes cautiously forward, then repeats. Over and over and over again. This is so bizarre!
I'm quite certain it is a glitch caused by an agent I'm working on, so technically not a "behavior" per se... but it is still REALLY creepy and weird to see this dead Norn walking around! =O

But on the bright side I figured out what made it happen. Which means I can do it again. And again. And again...

Well, my object's script read:
lock
targ from
loop
fric 20
anim [21 22 23 24 25 26 27]
velo 15 0
over
anim [28 29 30 31 32 21]
velo 15 0
over
fric 100
untl posx ge 99276
unlk
The agent originally moved in a direction dependant on the Norn's position, but when I changed the agent to only move right, I forgot to take out that "targ from" line, so when my Norn activated the agent, the script animated the Norn instead of the agent! And because it was set to loop until (the Norn) had reached an area to the right, but the Norn was actually going left (and thus would never get there), it just continued to loop endlessly, even after it was dead!
I had a lot of fun last night with this necromancy... Zombie Norns indeed!
