At Paris Games Week 2012, visitors had the chance to play with the Norns in a playable demo of Creatures 4. But what about those who couldn't come to the exhibition? Discover the new 4:45 video from the Paris Games Week demo. According to BigBen, the video is based on work-in-progress code and does not reflect the final quality of the game.
I'm trying to remain optimistic about this, I truely am, the mechanics and the *core* of the game are still intact, I really like that, and I respect that.
I'm still not sold on the art style, it bothers me a little bit, I feel the norns have lost a lot of charm with this change, but, I understand it's a much more suiting style for their target audience. The gameplay also seems to be a radical departure from previous games, but, I'm reserving judgement on that until I play it myself.
The major issue I have with this is still the lack of third party support, which is what has kept this community afloat well past its 'best by' date, and that's a real big shame. (before anyone comments, i know they are taking the TF2 approach to add-ons, which is people submit stuff, the stuff they like gets put in, I reserve my right to dislike that model for a game series which such a large history of 3rd party support.)
i quite like what they've done if i'm honest and i love the fact that norns can fix and even water their plants. i remember that being a suggestion put forward by the community and they put it in which is good.
although this may not actually be what the game will be like when it is finally released i think i'd be happy with how it looks and acts here i love the sims feel to it too seeing as i'm a huge fan of those games as well
I can see the influence from the sim series but the original feel is still pretty distinct. Creatures in a way was a predecessor to The Sims so possibly if anything The Sims will have had influence from the original games. I like the whole "repairing what you've broken" aspect it's interesting and unexpected. This game as a whole looks like something I could really get into so I do anticipate it's eventual release.
The C4 Norns have a brain and biochemistry structure nearly identical to the Norns in C3. This has been verified countless times in interviews, blog posts, screenshots and other game footage.
We will be able to inject specific chemicals and the like, this has all been verified before.
Also, Norns have never been actually aware or alive. They are just as much 'complex programming' as your average Sim and have the same amount of free will. (As in: none at all)
They both have a list of actions they try out in order of most relevant to their current needs. The only difference between a Norn and a Sim is that the Norn's list is based on instincts and previous experiences, making it able to learn. Top that off with some biochemistry to mess with its needs and your Norn acts as semi-predictable as your average toddler.
Please stop hating on the new game without actually knowing the facts, and without letting your romanticized Creatures 1 memories cloud your judgement. Feel free to not like the style or graphics or gameplay though, those are actually subjective.
Yeah I wonder if they can actually be "autonomous" and be taught to do things on their own? The objectives thing would also be annoying if they aren't only for the initial part of the game as it's meant to be freeplay. I think it's not so much about their looks that I don't like, but their behavior and character (body language, expressions, gestures..) just seem so un-nornish Um the critters are cute though haha and the 3D thing is pretty cool..They also said there will be an advanced science kit. So I'm guessing we can inject actual chemicals to lower a norn's anger instead of moving a slider under "anger".
Sadly it seems that this upcoming game is more related to Sims 3 than to the Creatures Series.
Sims can act like real lifeforms too, it works the same way, depeding on needs and personality.
But they have no choice, no awareness, they are complex programmed, nothing more. And for me, it seems that these Norns are the same way. You can force them to do actions, buttons opening just like they do in Sims 3. Sims also have ?free will?
Is this artifical life like C1 anymore? Or just an illusion of life, programmed whith some dependencies like Sims 3?
Who knows?
creatures caves is your #1 resource for the creatures artificial life game series: creatures, creatures 2, creatures 3, docking station, and the upcoming creatures family.
