Creatures Online: Improving UI Malkin | 11/19/2013 | | In this week's update on Creatures Online, the new thought bubble feature is being refined to only display when a norn is learning, not whenever it is thinking.
The UI for the close-up view has been improved to let us interact more with the norns when we're taking care of them, and the first five minutes of the tutorial phase are being reworked to help guide the player through the process of hatching their first norn.

From the last video we saw, it seemed like the quests were part of the tutorial phase - 'this is how you hatch an egg, now hatch an egg', 'this is how you feed your norn, now feed your norn', style of thing.

I like figuring it out on my own.

I'm hoping the tutorial phase will be short, skip-able if not optional, and will not pause the gameplay. I always feel aggravated when a game keeps me from playing the game... just to tell me how to play the game. It's especially aggravating because the game keeps you from discovering the mechanics through experiencing the game, even though any well designed game should have obvious, easy to use mechanics that are not that hard to figure out to begin with.
Making the tutorials optional/skip-able really helps avoid frustration, and also adds to the replay value (since you're not forced to sit through them against your will every time you reinstall the game or start a new save file.)
That could just be me though, but that's my thoughts on it.

A neuroscience kit would be cool though.
