If you were making a typical game, that would all be very easy. But since this is alife, it's MUCH harder, assuming you're trying to keep it 'pure'. They have to have the social consciousness and brain abilities to do that -on their own- rather than a preprogrammed trigger or it's 'cheating' and no longer alife, but merely a life simulation, at least in the specific sense of that behavior.
Of course there's no NEED to keep it pure, per se. Sort of like how the Norns in Creatures talking is in many ways preprogrammed and thus doesn't represent nearly as much as it would have if it were an emergent phenomenon like it is in real fleshy human brains. They wouldn't talk if not given the specific ability to do so, hard-coded. So even if a Norn were somehow made smart enough to talk on its own, to say more than the code allows, it couldn't, because the only vocabulary it has is fixed unless the gengineer purposely expanded that as well. Even then it would be a simulation of speech more than real speech, unless a way could somehow be made to allow it to select its own letters and such, or make actual self-controlled sounds.
Conclude with killer catchphrase.

The AI character wouldn't use Alife, because it's an NPC. it would just be a bot. The creatures themselves use neural networks. |
