Hee hee, I'm a fan of them being referred to as felines, but only if they add some long wavy tails on there. X3
But you know of course that SpringRain is biased and loves anything even remotely feline. Look at my sig. Ahaha!
I would like to see Norns of all kinds, shapes and sizes though, maybe even based off different animals, such as they did in DS/C3 with some of the breeds.
I think Norns probably are a mixture of a lot of things to a lot of different people. Ewoks and Felines and Rabbits and Foxes and...well..they are Norns. How can we describe them? Lol. XD Everyone will have their own way of viewing them.
I'd also like the baby creatures to be tiny and to crawl around until learning to walk, like in previous games, though I'm not sure if it's too late for such ideas if they have not been put forth already.
I wasn't a fan of the bright glowing highlight ('outline') around the creatures because it was very distracting, but I do like the screenshots and the designs of the world so far.
It's all so exciting.
I don't mind waiting while they fine-tune things and work out bugs or kinks. The wait does build up so much anticipation though.
Updates do tend to set the mind at ease and continue to tantalise. I wonder if this will come out around the same time the Hobbit comes out in the cinemas (Lol this has nothing to do with C4, I know! Just - I'm a nerd!)
I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley! |

I guess the biggest problem with calling them little Ewoks is copyright. Ewoks are from the Star Wars Universe, so despite the similarities comparing them isn't the best marketing strategy.
The feline aspect shows in the ears of the C4 generation of Norns, I think. Other than that the only really feline bit is their personality and some of the cat-inspired breeds.
If anything, they're more like platypus monkeys.

I like "platypus monkeys" a lot.
I can't remember that last time I anticipated a game this much. The nostalgia is almost heart-breaking! Even though the wait has been rough, it's really brought me back to the original games that I hadn't played for over ten years. I'm back in love with all that is Creatures, so even if the new game sucks, I can owe my renewed love to its hype.
I want to create a C3 breed someday..

Perhaps I'm overreacting, but I'm not at all impressed with the way BigBen and Fishing Cactus are handling the community involvement with Creatures 4. We used to have a very open dialogue with the Fishing Cactus developers on their blog. Now, I saw this response from Silvia Mandrioli:
@ChosenPredator: this decision is up to Bigben, which is taking care of the Official Website. If you submit your suggestions to them, I’m sure they won’t get unheard. I think the distinction between the roles of BigBen and Fishing Cactus in the production of Creatures 4 is not yet clear to you. I’ll try to explain it: at this moment Fishing Cactus is developing the game, Bigben is an investor and they are taking care of the website and the forum of the game. Nothing is fixed, nothing can’t change, but right now we are just developers. This means that all the questions you have should be submitted on the Creatures 4 website. Here will try to answer you, but, obviously, since it’s not the right place, you won’t have an answer right away, otherwise will pass our days answering you and not developing anything
So, be patient, guys.
I've also been thoroughly looking forward to getting the game, so I've inquired about the release date a few times. And here's what I got:
We asked the developpers all the questions you've been asking and we will make an article resuming everything for you. The release date has not been determined yet. Be patient, it will come.
And...
@Jessica I’ve already answered here: why we are not answering your questions as usual
There’s not a date yet, but I can give you a time span: Q4 2012 – Q1 2013. The release date is not completely depending on our development, it also depends on which time of the year is actually convenient to launch the game, for instance.
What is clear at this point of involvement is that:
1. the project will never be canceled, you can be assured of that. And however, this is not how Fishing Cactus proceeds.
2. the game will be released. We don’t know exactly when, but it will.
The Creatures 4 forum is all but silent from an official source. Questions were initially answered, but it's getting a little concerning that there isn't a presence. I really want to support Creatures 4, yet this overall feeling of confusion and condescending "be patient" tone is kind of getting to me... Anyone else agree? Or am I on my own with a simple silly train of thought?

I've noticed that pretty much every discussion about C4 boils down to, "We won't know until it's released and we play it."
And when it comes to the release date, as someone who has tried to make content (with varying degrees of success) a project timeline never lasts from beginning to end and as the end gets closer it changes drastically. So I'm not upset, only anxious, about not have a release date yet.
Official presence on the forum, or lack there of, I've never heard of Big Ben or Fishing Cactus until C4 was announced. They might not know how to handle a full fledged community before the game (C4) was even known about. We are a strange lot and those of us left aren't the most yielding of people. It could take time for the PR people to get used to us.......like after it's already released.

This means the release date could be as late as March 2013. Really? I'm getting to the point where they've pushed it back so many times that I don't even care anymore. I don't even want to play the game. It's understandable that there may be some setbacks, but if they were a professional company in any way that would have a strategic plan for each project and attempt to stick to it.

Fishing Cactus, has, as a whole, attempted to incorporate some of our ideas about what C4 should be into C4 - a more complex ecosystem and the ability to look into some of the science behind Creatures being the key aspects they seem to have latched onto. It's a learning curve for them in that they've previously only made original games - not ones with decades of history behind them already, and a fanbase with distinct ideas about how to play the game, and 'what C4 should be'. As a game developer, they've got different goals in mind for C4 than a game player.
For example, from their perspective, they probably knew long before we did that the Q2 release date wouldn't happen, but that they didn't communicate this until late June, the very end of Q2, was very disappointing. They might not understand that this lack of forewarning makes us keener (anxious) for a solid release date and more solid information - even if that's not something they can realistically provide. They may prefer not to communicate until they've got something solid to communicate, as more than a few things would still be up in the air at this stage.
Fishing Cactus have developed their understanding of the CC over long months - Silvia doesn't, as of yet, have this strong relationship with the CC, so she may not yet understand as well as some of the others might.
I've had a look at BigBen's website to try to find an image use policy and it's HUGE... (Couldn't find one, btw...) I wouldn't know where to begin to find someone to talk to about Creatures 4, or whether the C4 website is up or down.

Q1? Really? That's nuts.
they probably knew long before we did that the Q2 release date wouldn't happen, but that they didn't communicate this until late June, the very end of Q2, was very disappointing
It is entirely possible that the programmers did expect it to take longer, but that the non-programing members of the company simply had a poor grasp of how long such things would take, ignored the programmers' estimates, simply didn't mention this to the PR people, et cetera, all of which is pretty common.
The only thing that could really surprise me would be if such statements had come directly from the programmers rather than the PR people, or if they really do end up postponing it until 2013.

I would be pretty ticked off if they delayed it until Q1 2013. For a start they would miss the December Christmas season, which would mean missing out on a lot of money, and they would also be delaying the game YET again. I would appreciate it if they released a demo to the community to keep us occupied, possibly just the Hatchery area and a Norn to take care of. |

I think they should just release the updated versions of the games ASAP. It would A) be easy revenue for them and B) help people forget about C4 until it's released.

I was thinking about that too Rascii, Creatures 2 runs as slow as heck on the updated drivers for my videocard and as a result I have to use an older set. |

Lets not think about it being relesed in 2013 xD

I must admit, you guys are being a bit impatient
Some other communities/fans have likely waited years for another game in their series to release, and that's just with either a teaser of sorts or an actual announcement. For examples, look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, Thief 4, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and so on. C4 was only announced last year, compared to games like Versus which for example was announced back in 2006, it's still a very short amount of time between announcement and release date. Heck, even Duke Nukem Forever could possibly count as an example, as atrocious as that game supposedly is, it was many years before the game was actually released.
So yeah, I'm just saying that we need to cool our jets, and wait for C4. If they delay it again, no big deal, it just means that they need more time to make sure things go smoothly. I agree with Rascii though, releasing the updated versions of the previous games would be a nice source of revenue, however, the problem I see here is that those updated versions are very likely the main draw of the Collector's Edition. Were they to take away that main draw, there would be less sales of that Collector's Edition. |

Razgriz, Creatures 4 is free to play, so essentially they could just release the Collector's Edition in its entirety before C4, and then people who purchased it could just download C4 for free later.

It goes along what they said they wanted, direct all questions to the C4 website and forum. And it was BB that was doing it. They sent the list of questions to FC and when they received the answers they wrote it out and published it.

A new article about C4 being at Paris Games Week is available at the Official C4 Website, here.
There are some great pictures and a couple of "reviews" by some demo players. And best of all, there is a promise of a new video!!
EDIT: But Laura has already posted about this on the CCaves home page.

There's been another update on the Fishing Cactus Blog, but notably:On a final note, some of you heard rumors about it so we might as well go on the record: we won’t be ready to launch before the end of the year. The team is knee-deep in crunch time, learning to adjust their bodies and brains to less sleep at nights and more caffeine during the day, but there are still a few bullet lists to cross out. We currently hope to enter bêta phase in January. “Hope” means: it might as well be February that we wouldn’t be totally shocked. That’d translate into a live date around March/April 2013 or so. “Ship when it’s ready” is our stance on this one. Expectations are high and we know it — We can’t afford to drop the ball by rushing it out. We’ve spent too much care on this so far. We will very soon deliver you with a more thorough, radically transparent update about what’s been happening on the development side of things this far. Keep an eye on this space. |

"Next, we are quite glad to say that Creatures 4 which we have been developing with Big Ben Interactive for more than a year is finally on a roll. After quite long wait, we are on the verge of signing a distribution deal with a big player in the online games industry who will be responsible for the distribution of C4."
