Her father and sister were amphibious grendelchis, but Saya took after her mother in that she was solely an air-breathing creature (at least, she was unwilling to test it out and had no reason to believe that she could breathe underwater). That said, she did find herself enjoying places where moisture was high; in particular, she liked very foggy beaches. Those traits were hardly her most unusual, however. That title belonged to the song that followed her around. To other creatchis, it played all the time, seemed to come from inside their heads as opposed to an outside source, and sounded odd and haunting. Saya herself, on the other hand, wasn't able to hear it until she was almost old. She never learned the cause of it in life, beyond that it was connected to her unusual birth. Most of her life was surprisingly ordinary. As a child, she made friends with several other grendelchis, notably a fiery-colored one who went by the name of Bramble. After realizing their shared similarities, Saya eventually decided to marry Bramble, and between them two kids were produced. She never did get to meet them while she was still alive, but nevertheless tended dutifully to them and took great pains in ensuring that they would know their heritage, unlike she herself did. The last leg of her life was also the most interesting part of it. That was when the song finally revealed itself to her, and lead her to the grave of her mother. There, Saya learned that her mother died a while before her egg was laid. The revelation sent her into a state of shock, making her question the nature of her own existence. Upon reaching old age, however, Saya realized just how pointless it was to spend her last days worrying like that. She got over it, and after saying goodbye to her then-unhatched children and husband she enlisted the song's help in finding the graves of her father and sister. The pilgrimage eventually ended at the same beach where she was born, and it was there that death finally took her. So ends the saga of the Grendelchi of no mother born. May she rest in peace. |

...Music? Saya tilts her head to one side, trying to listen for anything unusual. Beyond the sounds of the surrounding environment, she doesn't hear anything. She looks at Hannibal with an odd expression, indicating that she has no idea what he's talking about. | |||||||||||||||||||

Having satisfied all her imminent needs, it finally occurs to Saya that she should probably take a look around. When she finally does, she realizes that none of this is familiar to her. Probably not surprising, given that she's newly born and all, but even so she can't help but be confused. She sees plenty of fog around, and she can hear the sounds of waves crashing against the shoreline. The ground beneath her feet is nice and sandy. Whoever it was that left her egg here apparently thought she'd appreciate a foggy beach. That's just it, though. Who was it that dropped her egg here? Saya looks around again, hoping for an answer, but for all intents and purposes she's alone. She makes a grendelish sigh before trundling off in hopes of finding companionship. Fortunately for her, it doesn't take long. Upon hearing the sounds of someone speaking to her, she turns her head to take in the sight of a creature similarly colored to herself, but with a completely different body shape. She walks over to this new creature and looks him over, a curious expression on her face. This wasn't the sort she was looking for, but for her current purposes it will do. | |||||||||||||||||||
