Looking to verify an old fandom claim... | |

I've been wondering lately--is there anywhere that has an archive of old forum posts for old, OLD communities? Like, 90's-era? I know Usenet archives are a thing, but I'm not sure how to go hunting them. I also know many old websites are preserved via Internet Archive, but I'm not sure which ones have old discussion topics.
"Why would I be interested in a bunch of old discussions?" you ask. Well, I recently stumbled into an old claim about the CC, thought it was fascinating, and wanted to research it to see if it was true.
I heard it said that some of the old "norn torture" COBs/tortured norns themselves were actually the work of a wildlife rehabilitator or someone interested in wildlife rehab, who wanted to use the Creatures series as an educational vehicle to teach people about wildlife rehab, or... something along those lines. Certainly some of the old "norn torture" COBs do appear to have educational aspects--the way the infamous Crack Pipe COB helps model how addiction works--but I've had trouble sourcing the claim that these mods were deliberately educational.
The closest thing I've found is that there were definitely posts/sites about how to care for and rehabilitate some of the more famous "tortured norns," like the perpetually drunk Slave, but that's it so far.
Does anyone else have any sources to this claim? Because I'm admittedly very curious: Is it true (if so, fascinating), or is it merely a fabrication to make for a nice Internet story? (Which is also fascinating, but in a different way!) |

Well, the closest thing, or rather person, I could think of is AntiNorn... Not sure if that is a help or the one you mean.

I don't know why people even bother to post on alt.games.creatures any more. There's so much spam it's hard to see any genuine threads. |
