Why Dont we host a Blog Planet?
If we had a Planet we could keep track of News and Blog Posts more easily
A "Planet" provides Posts from Creatures Related Blogs into one big Blog.

Would anyone be willing to Contribute to a Planet?
A Good example what a planet is, is this:

So... kind of like an RSS feed reader you have no control over...? |

More like a folder of RSS Feeds, right? It'd be like looking through a tag on tumblr. The problem is, it might actually be a problem as we'd have to very well define what news we're looking for. Not many things are Ubuntu related other than, well, Ubuntu.

I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but I couldn't figure out how to code it on my own and none of the pre-written codes seemed easy to configure. I'm open to trying 'planet' though if anyone wants to point me in the right direction. I don't really read Creatures-related blogs regularly but if they were all in one feed on Creatures Caves I'd definitely keep up better.

My blog is on the Ubuntu planet, and it only looks for the 'ubuntu' tag so my other stuff doesn't clutter it. It would not be too hard at all, to do something similar for creatures-related posts on blogs.
I would not mind helping with this, if there is enough interest to make it worth it.
Nutter, it's purely opt-in, too, so you don't have to worry about being sucked up into it or not. |

No, I wasn't worried about that. It just seems that the output would just be *all* the posts of *all* the feeds, with no way to just select those feeds you wanted to read. |

The problem remains with a simple tag, we might get stuff like "Strange Creatures sighted in Venezuela" mixed in with Creatures Online info.
If we did mass RSS feed from multiple blogs, sure it'd work, but it would be work to find active blogs. Don't we have thousands of sites in our link section?

You could use a slightly different tag then, like artificial life or creatures games.

I wouldn't mind seeing something like this, or similar! I really miss being able to read everyone's blog posts all in one place, like we were once able to with the Google Reader feed. Its precursor on FeedStitch has never worked for me, for some reason. |

LoverIan, it would be entirely opt-in, so only blogs that want to be on the Planet, are. Which means they're already Creatures oriented - and the tag would probably need to be something specific then.
For example, I post linux things on my blog. Instead of having all of my linux posts on the Ubuntu planet, I created a tag for ubuntu, and added it to any post I thought would be useful for Ubuntu planet readers.
Basically, someone submits their blog and tells what tag their creatures games posts use, that way we are sure to only pick up those ones. It is a Planet, which is opt-in, not a crawler (which is opt-out). So, if blog A uses "creatures" as their creatures game tag, that is what we would include. If another used "CreaturesCaves," we'd use that for them, and so on.
By the by, "opting in" even includes asking the owner if it is okay to add theirs to the planet. This way, we aren't unwillingly adding people to an aggregation system that don't want to be. That is just awful to do. |
