What is the oldest anyone has gotten a norn (non-immortal) at least in creatures 2 or 1. I think I have one that is 17 hours old (age says: 17:38). Just curious. Would love to hear your accounts |

I had a norn live over 30 hours in C1, but I suspect that was before I realised the effect of green apples, which affect the aging chemical directly. (Had a similar problem with the Medical button agent in C3.) |

Standard C1 norns (the ones that came with the game) and Purple Mountain norns lack the "die of old age" gene, so they're essentially immortal and can live forever. You need fixed genetics for them to be able to die of old age. |

I've got one who mutated to age really slowly. He is around 7 hours and still just youth.
And yes, I tested him multiple times. He seems to be able to die of old age.

The longest one of my Creatures 1 Norns has lived (at least in my current world going back a few generations) was 13:17. Interestingly, that record is held by two different Norns! But on average, a mortal C1 Norn (without any genetic manipulation nor mutations) typically lives around 10-13 hours.
AlbianPrincess: Does your Norn have the "Die of old age" gene? Or possibly a mutation? If not, my guess is that he/she can only die from starvation or illness.

Just curious how do you find out if a norn in creatures 2 is immortal as well as creatures 1? There's just so many genes to go through |

Wait, hold on, just did some checking of the creatures wiki and the science kit. I still don't get it but I think this info may explain something. Jed has an initial concentration of 255 life, as well as half life for life as 144.
I think oxygen plays a role especially in creatures 2 when it comes to aging, initial concentration not mentioned, half life 248.
Also going to list his life stage times (I think instant vocabulary cob instant ages a Norn to child so that might effect the timing)
date (December) time stage
21 9:25 PM Born
21 9:53 PM Child
21 10:43 PM Adolescent
21 11:14 PM Youth
22 12:09 AM Adult
22 6:38 PM Elderly
I really hope this isn`t too much info.
update: the norn I mentioned just died, I think the holodoc cob was keeping alive. |

In C1, the original norns were missing a "death from old age" receptor; where it's added, it generally appears at the end (about 320). It's a receptor for the aging chemical, with a threshold of about 7 or 8; so it checks the levels of the aging chemical and when it falls to that threshold, it triggers the death event.
Immortal norns can also appear if they've got a mangled half-life for the aging chemical, or if they've got a mutated gene that means they produce their own. You can check the level of the aging chemical using the science kit; it should fall slowly with age. You can also have a look at the half-life gene for the aging chemical, which controls how fast the chemical decays.
No idea how to check in C2 - the biochemistry was a lot more involved. |
