Mutation Stories

Hi everyone! Anybody ever got a creature with a really unexpected mutation to talk about? If ya do, this is the place to chatter on and on about them! I'll start this off with two of my norns, Dufemia(RIP dear girl) and Talorio. Talorio is the norn who started my Nornish Lion Pride project, which I could ramble about for a week but I'll spare everybody that talk, and is the first of my creatures to have a mutations that's actually noticeable. What is this mutation, you might ask? He has the legs of a Jungle Grendel which made for quite the odd appearance. I nearly fell out of my chair when he was born. Next, Dufemia. She was a descendant of Talorio and my second norn to have a major mutation. When she was a baby she had a very elegant azure-ish tint. Unfortunately, the tint faded when she became a child, which annoyed me. She had a few children before her early death of unknown causes. Even worse, none of her children inherited her mutation. Anybody else got stories of interesting creatures?

Hi there. I don't think I've had many interesting mutations. I once bred about five generations of Magma norns trying to get a pure breed to mutate. It worked. The fifth generation produced norns that had a dusky rose colour. I was so proud that day lol. I long since lost that save though :(
I don't know if this counts but I once had a wolfing run so long that all the creatures in the end had the same appearance. They had Hardman heads, bodies and arms, civet legs and grendel tails. I don't even remember what breeds I started with and there were certainly no grendel parts lol. Some still had the Hardman anger issues and when I checked them over several had bacteria and/or noticeable toxin levels but seemed unaffected. They were pretty tough :D

I tend to just start up a new world, hatch a bunch of various types of creatures and let it run unattended. I am also currently working on a water based metaroom, so my current test world has a bunch of aquanorns and aquabruins. (When I mess up the test world beyond use, I export all living creatures and import them into the new test world.) So I don't really know what generation they are, because it gets all messed up.

So, I currently have aquanorn/aquabruin crosses that:
-are not aquatic (drowning, any one?)
-are aquatic, but have regular legs and tails (still cute!)
-are aquatic, but have no legs or tails (wormy)

They are coming in handy for the various testing needs of my different agent, though.

I don't feel I've had any mutations, even after 8 generations....
No strange colors, missing limbs, strange limbs, just norns and ettins....
Any idea on how to encourage mutations?

I think this is just something weird with the species combination, but I once bred a Wildkat norn and a Bengal, and I got a norn with no tail, a huge head, tiny limbs, and everything was too close together and the head was too far forward. It was a really cute norn, though.

Hi!

Well, it appears that I've got a norn that both naturally produces ATP Decoupler and is immune to it. The norn is also bright red.

Once I mixed a gen 1 norn with maximum mutation rates with an ordinary C3 Bruin norn. The result was something funky which lives extremely long and makes an unhappy/painful face all the time.
I gave him the poetic and creative name Sad_Norn.

I still got him in my export folder. He is excellent to be mixed into other populations.

I had a Norn born with no arms once, although he could still feed himself, and a Norn born without legs that was unable to walk. :P

Usually not possible unless you have something like Nano Norns installed :P

I think it was because I had Gaia installed, Papriko.

I find that creatures that have colours other than standard just seem to mutate their colours quicker, and I'm not really sure why; hatch two creatures of the exact same genome, with an 'unusual colour' the exact same colour, and breed them, you are likely to get different colours almost immediately.

Case in point, take a closer look at These grendels, two first gens at the bottom, and their two offspring above, with standard-coloured populations this usually takes a good while.
Currently I' breeding 'saberooth norns' (wildkat sprites) which have slight genetic colouring, and with 2nd gen I'm also already seeing variance.

If the body was very large, the tail might just have been there, but of the Bengal's, so it was hidden by the Wildkat Body's Big Booty hahaha

Most of the time I just end up with half of my population being immortal. I always get some nice color mutations though.

Wait...just read the wiki. I may have had a few undead Norns briefly. I can't remeber the details exactly but I think a few were listed as dead but were still moving, I think they died eventually, possibly disease or a few had a particularly violent brawl:(

Is thread necromancy allowed here? I've never actually revived a long dead thread here before. Anyway, I have two weird Norns from two different wolfling runs. Both of the runs filled with random breed files, and even some experimental ones from me. So I was expecting some random Norns. What I didn't expect was one Norn to be constantly scared of everything, and another Norn to get angry when it's amorous. I haven't looked at their genetics yet though, I've been to lazy to.

The scared one is named Horror, and her face is almost constantly switching between scared and happy. She is constantly scared of everything, and despite this she's lives for two or so hours. Mellowheart, the other one, is a calm Norn most of the time, but he feels really angry when his sex drive is up. The cupids lyre makes him especially angry. I've uploaded them here if anyone wants to see them for themselves. They are a strange little couple.

I've had a couple mutations, though none of them too uncommon. One of the most annoying ones was when I would get idiotic norns that would do literally nothing but go right and, in some cases, occasionally fall asleep. They generally didn't last long, as I put them in the Norn Terrarium where they would drown if they really did have the mutation, but the first one I got lasted quite a long time because she inherited immunity to drowning from her Indio ancestors. At one point, I ended up getting rid of a dream norn because all but two of his offspring had the mutation. >.<
