The title of the thread says it all: How much would you pay for content in Creatures 4?
I personally would draw the line at £1.50 for Norn breeds, especially if its just a Norn and nothing else. If it was a breed pack, I'd probably pay around £3.00.
I'm not sure how much new worlds would cost, but I think £5.00 would be the highest price I would pay, unless it was absolutely full of features. |

For breeds, I'd be willing to pay up to 3 dollars and 5 for breed packs. I'd probably be willing to pay up to 8 for new worlds if they were absolutely brilliant.
I'm more interested in fan-made content and support for it, though.

I'll be an outlier and say $0. Ha ha! It's not just for C4: I'm just the type of person who likes to pay for a full game or expansion packs, but not individual content. Add to that the fact that this is a perpetually online game (which adds a bit of risk for content just disappearing) and my $0 threshold stays put. Like I said, though, I'm probably an outlier! I'm like this with all games, too... Probably old-school, but there's little that would change my opinion. Then again, you never know!

i think it would depend on how deatiled it was and if we got anything with it. i pay something like £10 for new worlds in sims 3 but only because they are just full to the brim with stuff so it would depend on the content but breeds i'd agree with £1.50 to £3 |

I'd pay between 2 and 5 dollars for breed packs, depending on what agents went with it. 2 for just the Norn breed to keep forever, 5 for a that with some agents too. I'd pay 7 to 9 for new worlds, depending again on what's inside, what it looks like, etc. And I'm willing to cough up fifty bucks for entrance to beta. Just sayin'.
Edit: this is just my current opinion, it's liable to change.

I think it's fair to say that all of our opinions are liable to change. XD
What if the game turns out to be garbage, right? I'm not too worried, though.

If the game turns out to be garbage or fails to deliver e.g: Spore, it will most likely be forgotten about and we'll have to wait until another company decides to resurrect the franchise, but I doubt any of this will happen. |

How much would I pay? Hmm. It depends on how much I enjoy Creatures 4 and what quality the content is. If I hardly play it, and/or think the addons aren't worth the money, then I don't think I'd pay for any additional content.
If I do end up wanting to play it to death though and really like what I see... The trouble with me is that if I really get into a game then money doesn't become an issue! Not good really. ![[nlaugh] [nlaugh]](/images/smilies/emot_laugh.gif) |

I hope the game won't feature adverts, they really ruin games in my opinion. Has anyone asked Fishing Cactus about this? |

I have to agree with Jessica and Laura on this one. When I first saw this game it seemed more like a sequel to the Creatures Adventures/Village series and not something detailed that would be a sequel to C3/DS.
However, if it does turn out to deliver like C3/DS, I would not mind spending about $5 on a breed pack, provided the breed pack was more than just different colored fur or a minor change of appearance.
I remember when I got into this game I was in bed sick for a long time and I downloaded DS out of curioosity and that led me to buy C3 via mail-order, as well as order all the breed packs off the main site. I felt like I wanted to make a contribution to the creator of the game for all the use I was getting out of it and to keep the series going.
I really hope I feel the same way about this game. However, I wish they would sell us a hard-copy so we can play offline. |

i've been playing the series for as long as i remember. my dad first brought the first creatures up the town for £1.99 and i've been playing it since then.
i don't want the series to die and if this game does well then it could mean a lot more games for our community |

I have a good feeling about Creatures 4. I would donate money to help keep the game rolling, even if I got nothing out of it myself (apart from the warm fuzzies). |

I don't like the idea of paying for things in order to progress in the game more quickly (i.e. if I can just play the game and wait to get the same things for free, I'd go with that option).
However, if there's some content that's impossible to get through game play, I'd consider paying for it.
I hope that made sense.

I have much the same opinion as Rascii. I don't like the idea of paying for advancement in the game, but I don't mind paying for DLC. |

I personally would not pay for anything. An entire game yes, maybe also major expansion packs (like the good old Morrowind + Bloodmoon and Tribunal), but not for something like a norn breed or a metaroom, especially not when it is a free creatures like DS or now C4...
I just hope they do not exaggerate the paid items and stuffs. Free to play - Pay to Win

Because it's a free to play online game, there will certainly be real money content. I would hope this would be in the form of items and areas that are unlocked early rather than exclusive pay-only content, but if it is exclusive then I would pay up to £5 for an area. I probably won't purchase items unless I feel they will improve my gaming experience and I would not want to pay more than £1 for them.
As far as breeds go, I'm not sure how they could restrict them to DLC without restricting the social aspect of the game. After all, if your friend buys a DLC norn breed and then mates it with your norns, won't the resulting birth have some of the DLC genes? The only way I can see them going that route is if they release other types of creatures as DLC such as grendels and ettins. I would pay up to £5 for this sort of content.

Norn breeds probably would not work out. Now there are no more things like the hassle with sprite files which you had in the last 3 games. Everything seems to be saved within the creature now.
Just one person had to buy them and send them to friends. This already worked with breed packs like Hardman Norns, but now it'd be more tempting. Sharing a cute hatchling or two is something entirely different than sending a complete installer to someone.

I think selling custom fur patterns might work. There's already a FtP MMORPG that allows people to make custom items that become available for everyone, but its expensive because of the amount of work involved. Doing something similar (but obviously less expensive) for norn breeds might work for C4. |

Didn't C1 and C2 also have Life Kits that needed to be paid for? I wonder what everyone's opinions on those were? |

I'm looking at alt.games.creatures right now. People seem pretty positive about the C1 kit but not so much the C2 ones. It's also before online shopping was widespread, so I think that clouded people's opinions a bit - they were very cagey about something you had to buy online. |

I won't know until the game comes out. If they're using it as an excuse to hold back all or most of the fun stuff (a la too many F2P games- see Papriko's comment), I don't really want to encourage that.
I wouldn't mind throwing a couple bucks in occasionally to get a cool breed or metaroom though, as long as there's still plenty of content in the free game.
(Anyone here play Kingdom of Loathing? I think they balance the free and paid content pretty well- even though they release a new pay item every month, they frequently update the free experience too. It's not perfect- you basically need pay items if you're going for a speedrun leaderboard- but being able to buy the items with ingame/free currency from other users helps a little.) |

If I really enjoy the game, I'm with Laura. I forget about how much I'm spending relative to the value of the overall game. I guess I'm the target audience for F2P games..
I want to create a C3 breed someday..

I would gladly pay for the collector box if it does exist since I'd really love to get a norn figurine. However, I will probably not have enough money to spend on the game in itself as I am currently unemployed and have decided to go back to uni to get a new degree and my parents have to help me and help my brother who is also trying to get a new degree (let's say that unemployment in France is an issue and a lot of people need to learn something new).
Also, I tend to keep a bit of money for SWTOR so CO won't be my priority.

C-Rex wrote: Didn't C1 and C2 also have Life Kits that needed to be paid for? I wonder what everyone's opinions on those were?
The Life Kits were more like expansion packs, which is something that has existed for games for a very long time. There was expansion packs for the original Sim City, even. The micro-payment stuff is a rather different animal. There's much more of it, and you get much less each time. Think Sims EPs versus the Sims Store, where you pay to just download ONE hair or whatever. That said, the Life Kits could definitely have had more content, as I seem to remember them being rather price-y. We never even got the second Life Kit for C2 (although I downloaded it much later when it became free on Gameware's site). |
