I've noticed that Creatures Community blogs are becoming increasingly popular, so I'm considering adding a blogging feature to this website. It would be integrated with the rest of the site, into it's own section in Community. So basically each user could start their own (Creatures-related) blog and have it hosted by CC.com. What do you guys think? Does it sound like something anyone would be interested in? I think one of the benefits could be that each time someone posts a blog entry, it would be included in the Updates section, so it makes it easier for people to follow it without visiting a bunch of different websites.

It sounds like a great idea! I do wonder if it should have a separate updates section, since there might be a lot of posts. This way it could also include when someone comments on a post without getting too cluttered. |

Cute - Albia 2000 had a similar feature some years ago... I'm not going to read mine, it'd be too cringeworthy.
Maybe see how often the 'resources' section is used, and then consider whether to implement this or not?

Ah I didn't realize that Albia 2000 had that. It's basically the same format that I was envisioning for CC.com. However, there would also be an aggregate view whereby one could view all blog posts by all users in one feed sorted by date, in addition to being able to view each blog individually.
I think the Resources section is quite different since it's more focused on helping people with development, games or using this website while the blogs section would just be for, well, blogging.

I think individual blogs would fit very well between the 'About' section and the 'Recent Activity' section on people's profile pages, with a separate section that sorts all recent blog posts of everyone in a handy feed on the Community page.

I think this is yet another brilliant idea, Rascii! You should totally just do it; blogging is now a popular activity and a dedicated blogs section would be an integral step towards making Creatures Caves the definitive, all-encompassing Creatures Community hub. Not to mention it'll nice to have even more blogs to read! ![[ngrin] [ngrin]](/images/smilies/emot_grin.gif) |

Lisha777: It means people can keep a sort of diary on CC.com about anything Creatures-related they like.

In all fairness, you don't need to visit a bunch of different websites to keep up with all the blogs out there; RSS is what makes modern blogging so great.
If there was a way you could aggregate the RSS feeds of already existing blogs onto one page a la Creatures Bundle, and/or just RSS updates onto the updates page, that would be pretty fantastic. It would be a major step forward towards bringing everything together in one place.
Personally I don't see the need for CC.com-hosted blogging though, not when there's already so many sites out there that do free blogging, and run on powerful, full-featured software at that. Additionally, unless CC.com's blogging was RSS-enabled, I kind of worry about CC.com-blogs being a little disconnected from the rest of the blogging community, or vice-versa.
But, that is just my modern technically-minded two cents

In addition to Amai's points: CC.com is awesome. But right now, a lot of features are being added very quickly. I'd much rather see the current new features blossom than get thrown to the wayside in favor of focus on new things. The newly added resource centre won't work without a huge push by developers and players alike. Why not focus on trying to get that up and running before trying to jump on the blog bandwagon?
Frankly, there is nothing CC.com can do better than current blogging software such as Wordpress and Blogger. I don't see a point in trying to copy what other systems already do, and extremely well. Especially when there are things that only CC.com can do that nobody else can -- community orientated projects like a resource centre. That's something this community can pull together. Why not try?

If anyone should be pushing the community-oriented projects it should be us and not just Rascii. It's up to us to make sure the new features blossom. It's up to Rascii to enjoy maintaining the site as much as we enjoy visiting it. Coding new features is fun. Plenty of players already have their own 'blog' in the forums in the shape of their latest Wolfling runs, not to mention the Survivor blogs.
That said, while plenty of websites are dedicated to the hosting of blogs, most of them are not that easy to handle for younger users. Sometimes these users don't even know what blogs are or how they'd go about getting them. (Example in this thread)
Having blogs on CC.com would allow a lot more people to become interested in blogging without having to register for some huge scary site where everyone and their cat has a billion more readers than they do. They'd also be easy to find and read by other players. If Rascii can get it all hooked up to an RSS feed, CC.com blogs will mix very well with the other Creatures blogs out there.

I like the RSS feed idea, but I have one thing to add in addition to what AquaShee mentioned: a lot of blog systems really suck when it comes to leaving comments. (I know this because I have to deal with it as a part of SEO.) Either you have to have signed up for your own blog on their own system, or you have to sign in with something really identity-revealing, eg. your Facebook account. If you don't want a blog and can't/don't want to sign in with a Facebook account you basically can't comment. A CCaves blog system could help encourage people to participate more in general, since it would make commenting easier and more secure-feeling.
My only potential suggestion for a CCaves blog system would be to maybe allow people to upload a custom header image if they wanted. Kinda like how Ask Laura has that pretty banner at the top. That way people could personalize their blog a little.

It would be nice if you could post several images easily, if you want to show off your new agent or an awesome agent combo or something. |

I think it's a great idea, as another option for new bloggers to start off with! So long as there's a way to integrate updates from existing blogs, such as through an RSS feed, I believe it will be a wonderful way to bring together the Creatures blog-o-sphere in another way!
