It works, it works! This is my current dabbling in CAOS; it's an update to the star plant script--among other things (see image), norns can carry the flowers around (they give a "played with toy" stim), and they now have a growing cycle and working (sort of) seeds.

I just needed to share my giddy happiness with people who would understand (although my husband and adult daughter ARE indulgently making impressed noises and pretending to care).
I just have some polishing to do, like trying to get the plants to actually sprout in the same spot where the seeds fall, and then I'll post it for others who like lots of flowers in their worlds.

They look fantastic! Do you have your own class number range yet?

No, I was wondering about that; I've seen archived lists, but didn't know if there was a current one. Thanks for the link, I will go figure out how to get myself signed up!
These currently use the same classifier as the originals, although they've been so heavily modified at this point I don't know if I should really leave it that way...what do you think?

As you've used mira, a DS-only command, I really feel it'd be best for your flowers to get their own class number and be their own DS agent. I love the colours, btw, especially the blue.
The current way to get your own class number range is to ask Moe.

Actually, I didn't know about mira--I did it the hard way, made a new sprite file with edited sprites. In addition to the mirrored poses and new colors, they have more leaves, because the old ones just looked so...stemmy?

Oooh very nice! I'll definitely be grabbing these once they're released. I love the star-plant and always wished I could plant some more myself, (and in different colors, too!)
Plus that's interesting that the creatures can carry them around. Mine tend to get bored a lot, so that should give them something to do

I hope so, Jessi! I'm still not entirely sure what prompts them to pick something up...but when I TOLD one of my norns to "get plant," he obligingly picked up the nearby flower and toted it around for a while before taking a nap with it, so at least I know they CAN.
Oh, and for whatever use it is (another thing I don't really know yet), they now smell like flowers instead of carbohydrates. It seemed only right. I haven't made them edible, although I've toyed with the idea. We'll see...

Correction: mira is a command that works with both games - I can think of a few agents that use it that work just fine in both C3 and DS (in fact, I believe C1toDS is one of them - and I'm willing to bet most people didn't even know that could be injected into C3 Standalone in the first place).
Okay, enough of that. It's always nice to see someone aiming to improve the default C3 agents.

Beautiful work! The star plant is one of my favorites from C3/DS, and I've always been sad that they're been pretty rare and stuck in the background. I love the new colors. Good luck finishing it up: I hope to use these in my world at some point!

Aww, they're so pretty <: And much less "stemmy," hah. I envy anyone that can put nice sprites together.

Thanks, Amai...I'm not sure futzing with other people's sprites really counts, but I hate to turn away a good compliment, so I'll take it.
Jessica, I was going to add purple, but I got tired. Would that be too many colors? (Is there such a thing as too many colors???)

Purple would look lovely! I really don't think there could ever be too many colors! That is, unless you went a little overboard and decided to make something in every hue possible. Then I might classify that as bordering too much. Ha! Sprites are difficult, and I've found that even editing some can be difficult. It's not as simple as just pressing a button: There's a bit of work involved, and these are looking amazing!

There can never be too many colors
With that being said, I know how tedious it can be to recolor sprites all day, haha. Making agents should be fun, so don't overwork yourself!

I just uploaded it to the COBs area, so it will be available as soon as it's approved. There's no purple (yet), but Amaikokonut helped me smooth the rough edges and add some nifty tweaks, and what's there is working so far!
The plants can be picked up by creatures, and give a "played with toy" stim. They smell like flowers. The seeds are edible, and smell like carbohydrates. I may need to tweak the population controls a bit, so feedback on that would be appreciated. I've tried to keep them from growing right on top of each other or getting totally out of control, but also to keep from losing the last one in the world.
The seeds will only sprout on soil, but a reasonable(ish) number of them will hang around and be dormant if they can't grow (no soil, too crowded, etc.) for either repopulating later or supplying a food source.
Let me know what you think -- this is fun!
UPDATE: Heh...naturally, as soon as I had released it I found a bug feature...I rearranged my seed-sprouting code in the process of implementing population control for the seeds, and tested the population without re-testing the sprouting...so I didn't notice that sprouted seeds forget to die. Not a huge problem, really...in fact, if you move them somewhere else, they'll sprout again. Hey, reusable seeds! What a novel concept! Don't you wish YOU'D thought of it?
