Seems like there should be some way to extract a family tree from a directory full of exported norns (she said, with the innocent confidence of one who has absolutely no idea what it might actually entail).

There was once a great tool called Norn History for C1 - wich could map out all related ones to a specific norn (and grendels too,me think)
I allways liked to use that one,But I haven't seen any working download copy of it >_> Nor do I know if it runs on a win XP..
*would be happy if I ever could find that one again - and if,get it running as well)
I so wish there was something like that for DS/C3 as well
(well I do know c2 at least have a inbuilt family tree in the owners kit..but it's kinda annoying sometime with the + marks you have to go trough X_X)
The closest I could get for DS is the norn history update agent - as it shows the parents (if alive,if not or theyre exported - they get a picture) along with theyre name..
I usuly can't keep track on all my nornlings - but sometime I do it with C1 and then I paste in pictures and type in parents and sibblings and what happen so far...but thats just with my special ones ^^'
I actuly never had to do this much with C1 or C2 at all as I can never keep a long run of generations (it comes probably as far to gen4 or so O.o' ) I like to do other things in those games - such as raise one or two norns at a time in C1 and usuly when they get kids of theyre own - I export them, cos theyre too cute to have lingering around too long..
As for C2,it's kinda the same, just that I like to splice and do genetical experiment more there..
C3-DS I never done realy a family tree - is too many to keep track on,however - I use to type in who's parent and sibling is who in the discreption window (if I can get the chance) Otherwise, I just let them be for themself and I usuely get at least higher gens there (up to around gen70-80 something)
But! I heard that there was template for download to people who needed one, think I saw it on Arch's blog, but I couldn't download it (link was down)
http://thecreaturearch.blogspot.se/2012_03_01_archive.html
Edit: Okay, not realy a template for the family tree purpose, but perhaps could be used that way - anyhow,I still can't download and try it myself to see what you can do with it O.o'
Hmm thats all I can think of right now ^^'
The only proper family tree tracking I have is on my various ones in petz 5 (using wordpad and pictures as well) XD
Now I realy hope C4 could implement at least a family tree system - would be great..
well thats all I have to say,
Sorry for the long rant and not being much useful : (

yeah i never bothered keeping a tree because the population always deteriorates into a giant incestuous slurry anyway
in the spring you gotta let the flowers fully blossom

Blah.
A decent DS family-tree agent is something I've been meaning to work out for like, ever, but I keep getting drawn into these OTHER MASSIVE UNDERTAKINGS.
But I still really want to do it! Maybe in like. Four years. /shot
