I'm working on a fanfic, and need ideas for what in general shee culture was like. I know they kept norns as pets, "quite obsessively" had most labor done by ettins, and might have bogymanified grendels, but apart from that what was their civilization like? |

I don't believe there are any official references to Shee culture. |

Well, they were an intellectual culture.
Imagine their entire culture as high class behavior style, with a mix of laziness.
The shee are prone to tinkering to relieve boredom.
If the lone shee is anything like the others, then we can assume this:
They all love tea.
They all love a good biscuit.
They like reading.
They like technology.
They like to be laid back.
They are resourceful.
They can be evil.
They do enjoy keeping many pets.
They love science and being humanitarians.

An interesting plot point might be to include that the Shee wouldn't have normal human names such as ours, since The Lone Shee is never mentioned to have a name. Perhaps, instead, they are number, as they are a very technology oriented society. Then, if a Shee gets well known enough, they become known by a name such as The [Blank] Shee. The Lone Shee was known for being a loner, but perhaps there is The Angry Shee, or The Math Shee, or The Drunk Shee.

I don't think the lone shee thought of himself as the lone shee. I do not think anyone thought of him as "The Lone Shee". He was a shee who happened to be a loner, and so was referred to as "The Lone Shee" for the convenience of the readers.
I like the number idea though. |

KC11, I like your naming system. Kind of reminds me of the Timelords in Doctor Who.

The Shee were social creatures, though. They created norns as companions, their homes were cozy and while they loved to tinker with nature, they also respected it and admired its beauty.
This leads me to believe they had a very rich and varied culture. While they were very technologically advanced, they probably had oodles of poetry, music and art. Albia has a lot of books, instruments and artworks lying around to support this theory.
So in my opinion, while having numbers as names is an awesome concept, I don't think the Shee were that far gone. They probably named themselves after famous Shee scientists, who themselves could have been named after gods or other mythological figures from their history.
It would be neat if they somehow discovered genetic engineering before discovering fire, by breeding a type of woodworm that sets its nest on fire to hatch its young or something.

Well, it kind of makes sense.
The Lone Shee wasn't it's self designated name, it was more given by the narrator for the purpose of illustrating the fact that he was alone in his journey (no other shee), and, had been so busy, he became alone, and nobody even told him of the ark.
He was accompanied by norns, but that's different.
And, it's possible their naming system is like the timelords, but, eh.
Anyone else whom enjoys starcraft end up thinking of the shee each time they see the protoss?! XD
And Aqua Shee, them discovering genetic engineering before fire, that just, kicks all awesomeness into another level!
