Those of us who play Creatures 3 have a lot of connectable gadgets to play with. I haven't had a chance to play with them for years, but after recovering my C3 disk recently it's become an interesting new aspect to play with.

Which leads me to ask, which gadgets have become your favorites? Which ones do you find the most useful or versatile? Which ones have proven less helpful than they could be? And if you could improve on them, or even create new connectable gadgets, what would they do?

The gadgets I use most frequently are the radio boxes, count gates, and delay gates. When combined with Clucky's Mini-Recycler, Timer, and Egg Finder Advanced, they can be used to create an "Ovicidal Agent" that is extremely useful for wolfling runs.

The sludge gun is fun to play around with and is a great thing to have around when playing to protect norns from grendels. The creature detector is also a great agent to have around.

The medical teleporter is useful for getting sick norns to the medical bay, but oftentimes it just gets annoying when bored creatures use it for a plaything.

As for the least useful gadgets, I say the lightboxes, light modules, and sirens are about useless. They do nothing but light up or make fancy noises when hooked up to other gadgets, and are pretty much good for ettin fodder only.

The most useful definitely has to be the pulse switch. The timer agents and radio are also very good.

I used to make really complicated chains of gadgets, lol.

Some of my personal favorites:

Surveillance camera + Norn/Ettin/Grendel detector + siren. Always good for a few laughs.

Norn/Ettin/Grendel detector + Piranha pool switch. [devil]

Connectable gadgets are <3. My favorite is the detector, pulse switch, radio agent, and Clucky's timer agent.

The least useful ones have already been mentioned. The lights and stuff. Useless! I do like the siren though, but it's a shame I can't have gadgets rigged up in my inventory. :/

If I could improve upon any I don't know what I'd do...but if I were to make my own, it would be a customizable detector, with age filters, gender filters, the ability to detect multiple breeds at once, etc; that sort of thing. :)

I was planning on it at some point, but C2toDS takes up my time.

The connectable gadgets confused and distressed me when I used to play.

Now that I'm older, hopefully a bit smarter, and playing C3 again, i might figure out what some of them do. The most complicated thing I ever made was a sludge gun hooked up to a creature detector, :P

I was thinking about a cosfile or even a set of them to make some DS stuff connectable. Actually should it be possible to do it, but either it will be very tricky and risky or I had to make dozens of files...

The ports self could use a generic sprite. Thats at least better than replacing the most of the real DS ones.

Generally I like connectable agents, but the downside of them is that they can be demounted by other creatures. I like to see a fix that makes them invisible. :)

Or at least not as easy to disconnect, but definitely. I know it always frustrated me when my defenses would be ruined by one Norn who had decided it would be to "hit gadget" over and over and over again.

I wish more existing gadgets and such could be connected. Everything in DS from the lift call buttons to portable teleporters, musicola and food/bee/commedia vendors could be linked up.

Oh, I just started a replay of C3&DS, and it's so much fun!
I made a chain connectible to where that platform, keeps going down, or to the right XD
I made a few sludge guns, that work based on ettin, grendel, and norn, detection. The one in the grendel jungle is also hooked up to the piranha pit (from behind).
I have a valcano thingy that works via presence of ettins (they rarely leave that area these days XD). It works much better than this volcano, elevator, cheese vendor, elevator chain I had worked out XD.

Then, I have an aquarium detector designed to introduce new populations. It is hooked up to 3 (sometimes more) bio-dispensers. It works real fast!

I have to agree with Lebam, Ghost, and Wii, that, when a good chain is disconnected, especially if it helps the survival of a race, then, it's a bummer, and that we should be able to keep them hidden. Plus, some items in DS need inputs and outputs.

The number gates, I can't get though...

@Dragon, I COMPLETELY understand. I was little and understood nothing on how they worked. Now, I'm getting into the science behind them, and putting them together.

Now if only I could make multiple moving platforms to carry complex machines in the air so that the creatures can't touch them!

Once I made a remote control for the platform. You need 2 Plus/Minus switches and 4 radio stations. 2 connected with the switches and placed somewhere well hidden, the other 2 connected to the platform self and then stored on it.

With 2 radio stations and 1 plus/minus switch more you also can put a remote sludge gun on it.

recently i hook up a grendel detector to the hover pad and sludge gun. So the machine would fly around killing grendels.

I never figured out how to use the timers and logic gates and "not gates" but I probably will when I have the time. In the mean time, I have a pulse switch hooked up to the volcano in the desert terrarium, to ensure there are volcanic rocks aplenty for the gnarlers to eat.
