Hello Creatures Community! As you all probably know, the new CC IRC is a raging success! More new Creatures Community members (and some old ones!), have found this chat and connected with the community in a matter of weeks, than in the past six months!
As a result, some concerns have been raised as to the nature of the discussions permitted. Long has the community and its discussion boards enforced a PG-13 atmosphere, catering to the younger audience often attracted by our cuddly Norn friends. It is no surprise then, that some questions have been raised as to what extent the new chat should mirror this philosophy.
The result is a forum topic dedicated to the discussion of this issue. The CC IRC exists for the community, so it is only fitting to get the community?s feedback. This is very important, so that the chat administration can act both justifiably, and with rapidity, in moderating the discussions as the community sees fit.
Thank you for your time and input!

The rules could be put up on the IRC wiki when they are made. I have already put a few basics up

Nah, the Creatures Wiki isn't a good place also because of the public editing. I'm thinking of creating it myself.
Edit: I've created a stub: http://lembam.net/nettiquette/cc.php
Have fun chatting!

Personally, I think the nettiquette, for the chat atleast, should be made together with the creators of the new chat.

We've all been discussing this matter at length in chat, and we've agreed that a notice, warning young and new chatters about the potential nature of this chat, would be acceptable. And that the channel Ops should just deal with issues as and when they happen.
Here is the proposed notice:
We do not always know how the discussion in chat will develop. If the nature of the current topic makes you feel uncomfortable, you are welcome to leave chat and come back at a later time, or you can tell an Op, and they will deal with the matter as soon as possible.
We all figured that this would be a better way forward. I hope this is adequate for everyone? |

I think that will suffice. It's not possible to have "rooms" in IRC, is it? |

I agree with you Laura, the first time I joined the IRC it was only going about flirting between Papriko + E-J.
Also, I hate the password system at WyldRyde. 10 minutes ago the NickServ didn't recognize my command and the password was sent into the public.

Hey, flirting makes fun.
And you also could try to start a proper conversation with someone in IRC. It is not rare that multiple conversations run at the same time over there.
That with the command sent to public is really bad. I'm sorry for you

I respect your relationship with E-J, but as you may know most people are under 18 in the community -- including me.

Flirting is fine, but there's a different between flirting and.. well, other things.
There's nothing wrong with the passwordsystem at WyldRyde, it's pretty much the same as any other network. You're just doing it wrong. Use a proper client and have it automatically identify you when you connect to the server.

Indeed. Flirting is harmless, and I don't recall Papriko and E-J being explicit, or stepping across the line of PG-13 at all.

1. With a client, like say, mIRC - if you go to 'Tools', 'Options...', 'Connect', 'Options' and then click the 'Perform...' button, the 'Perform' box will pop up.
2. Check the 'Enable form on connect' tick box and click the 'Add' button. Scroll down and highlight the 'WyldRyde' network, then click 'OK'.
3. Now in the 'Perform Commands' text box, type:
| /msg NickServ IDENTIFY yourpasswordhere |
4. Click OK.
Now NickServ should automatically verify your nickname whenever you enter chat, and you won't have to lift a finger.

I think only server Ops can create those, otherwise it would be cool to have different rooms. We're just mere channel Ops. |

Thanks Laura,
I don't konw if ChatZilla has capabilities for auto-perform. I'll search on the site. I placed an space by mistake when I tried to identify myself, that's why the command wasn't sent to the NickServ.
I'm sorry for the confusion.
Edit: I found it, Thanks!

What I always do: wait till NickServ PMs me because I have to verify myself and then directly just say "identify #my PW#" into the PM window.

The chat rules are now up:
http://moosecakes.tumblr.com/CCIRC_Rules
I think they're fair. Also, the disclaimer I posted in here earlier is now on the main chat page.
Hopefully this'll help some chatters feel a bit more comfortable. |

All right! It's been forever since there was a CC chatroom.
I'll go to lurk there ASAP.

Not sure why you guys thought these couldn't go on the wiki. It's not like who edits it isn't public info. You can just revert it if someone messes with it

Yeah, at the moment only the link to the rules is on the Wiki. I thought that that would be sufficient, but now I think about it, that's a much better idea! Thanks EM. |
