Whether you call it Valentine's Day, Singles' Awareness Day, or whether you regard the day with no significance at all, I just want to wish everybody on this forum a Happy February 14th for tomorrow, and say that I love you guys.  I don't believe that Valentine's Day should be a holiday that's regarded as exclusive for couples and loved up people, but rather a day of good feeling and friendliness towards all! I got my V-day pressies early. My girlfriend made a big heart of my favorite candies on the table, with two presents inside. The New Super Mario Bros for the Wii and a chocolate bar that said 'I like you <3' except not in english.I like having a special day to celebrate being in love with someone. Happy Valentines Love Day! *showers everyone with love, flower petals, and sparkles*^_^ I agree. I always think of Valentines as a day to show others we love and care about them. Hope everyone's had a nice day, whatever it is you've been up to! Care to share? I've spent the whole day with my boyfriend. We exchanged pressies, ate lots of food and just lounged about watching the Desperate Housewives season 1 boxset I got him. I couldn't have asked for a more chilled out time with the guy I love, and Desperate Housewives was great too! |

I spent half of the day at patchwork helping to sew a teddy bear redwork square for a quilt that our group is making to give to a special needs school. And after that I went to work and sold cakes to people. We sold a lot because it was Valentines.It was a good day. I'm back again after being away a handful of years. 2026 Revamp, Baby! |

Well, since Valentines Day existed way before greeting card companies, it's quite obvious that the whole 'sham holiday' theory doesn't make any sense. Greeting card companies, like any other company, want to make money, so it's not surprising they make some effort to get money out of holidays that involve lots of cards. Birthday cards are probably still their main year-round source of income. As for the romance and meaningfulness, that's something you have to add yourself. Nothing has any meaning until you give it some, so people complaining that Valentines lost all meaning don't care enough to give it some meaning themselves. They do like complaining though.
