another thread inspired me to start this one. i can see how it can be a controversial topic, so let's keep things civil, please.
we have all had creatures that are "disabled," whether by commonly known massive genetic problems (CotM, sliders) or gait problems, pain or fear producing mutations, whatever.
so how do you deal with these creatures? do you export them? put them in a special area or world and allow them to live with support? or euthanize them?
personally, with the way i play creatures, i euthanize all norns with mutations that could possibly be harmful to my breeding stock. i don't tend to play the game in a hands on way anymore- i generally just let it run in the background and weed out the weak every few hours. i like to tinker around with the dDNA of high generation norns- it's interesting to me to see how they evolve, with a little bit of prodding in a certain direction. of course, this involves a lot of norns, and a lot of less than desirable mutations.
so what do you do when it comes to this sort of thing?

Well I put them into a "disabled world where they are safe from grendels, cave flies, and anything else dangerous. In this world I give each creature their own 'patch' by using forcefields. Of course if I feel the mutation is not really bad I let them roam free. The 'patched' Norns have toys and food available to them to ensure a most comforable life. The ones that roam free do so if I feel their children wouldn't be extremely impaired. I also find the root cause of their illness and just for fun... Document it
By the way, did you get the idea for this on my topic project baby?

Yeh, I don't disagree with euthanasia but I find it difficult to do! I hope I don't seem wierd but I get quite attached to my Norns
I like the dedicated world cause it is better for everyone! If I get a norn with constant pain ect. I use medical treatments to help I got the idea of the chronology series!

I tend to save whatever interesting mutations I come across, so if I encounter a "disabled" Norn they generally end up floating in limbo on my harddrive for the rest of eternity.

That kind of norn is exactly what the 'strange' tag on TCR is for - so don't be shy about uploading your unique creatures and saying a bit about them!

I use CFEs so I rarely find them. Perhaps one or two with a slight limp, this often seems to arise from poisoning as much as genetics. If it is not too bad I just let them stay in the world, otherwise I kill them (or possibly export for a really interesting mutation)
Oh yes, I occasionally perform experiments which often result in a large number of disabled creatures. Sometimes I study these. |

Sliders and Wallbonkers get a CAOS-Console-Execution, CotM I let starve and for the rest I have a dumping world where they may pester the gene pool as much as they want. Genetic Breeds of me (even the less successful ones) also end up there.
Funny, in that world I am on generation 160 only with my own work...

I tend to isolate them in forcefields or let them run free

With mine, I simply export them and then delete the exported file. I think that is the kindest way since they don't know anything once they're exported. They're a file.
And then I don't have to feel guilty for having to find other ways to put them out of their misery.
Everyone wins!

Yes! Now thats the way to go!
I don't do that though, I just put them in another world to live their lives in peace.

Well, I would do that...but you aren't living your life in peace if your're slowly starving to death, are you? XD
And having to see them stand paralysed watching every other Norn have all the fun is too sad to watch...

I make them age rapidly. If I export them, it feels...'incomplete'? Like the circle of (artificial) life has been interrupted. No idea if that makes sense. I feel sorry for them though |

I usually just slap them to death, put them in a pool or an other way. Unless i really care about a norn, then i just use ATP Decoupler. I have a weird sense of morality, so i'm not such attached to them. The (immortal) sliders are being put as mobile punchbags. But nearly every time i try using Genetic Kit to heal them, or at least let them die naturally. |
