There are many different methods, and it's usually best to stick with just one when you're learning. That said, I love Purplemath.com, and it might help you out.
The more practice you get at maths, the more naturally it will come to you - I still find that sticking a dollar sign in front of any maths I do concentrates the mind wonderfully. XD

I predict that this will be quite difficult to teach and demonstrate to you properly over an internet forum...
I really struggle with maths too, even with the basics, but I usually find that learning in a one-to-one environment really helps me - you might be better off asking your teacher at school, or a parent, to show you and perhaps get yourself a maths textbook to look over and practice with. The website Malkin suggested is a good one too. |

This kind of maths is extremely applicable to all walks of later life, because it can be used for shopping, for, say, 26 fabulous tops at the bargain price of 13 dollars each. That's another trick for when you're on your 53rd maths problem and getting a little bored - jazz it up a bit mentally by making it meaningful to you.
A word of warning about the calculator:
Some schools don't let you use calculators until you're past a certain grade, so that you know how to do it yourself, and know if the shop assistant's made a mistake adding up your fabulous purchases, or if you're paying the right amount of tax, or if you've got the measurements right for furnishing your room, or etc, etc, etc.
I know I wasn't allowed to use a calculator regularly when I was in primary - we had to do it by hand. At least we didn't have to use slide rules or abacuses. (abaci?)
It's not like you always go around with a calculator grafted to your hand anyway, so it's important to be able to do these things in your head.
It's a pain now, but when you can do all the calculations with ease when you're shopping, you'll thank yourself for sticking with it.

Now I got whta you want! Melody, your example was 52*34? When I don't have a calculator, I do it about so:
2 * 4 = 8
2 * 30 = 60
50 * 4 = 200
50 * 30 = 1500
After calculating what comes out of those you simply add that all together. In this case is 8 + 60 + 200 + 1500 = 1768

Oh yes! What I wanted to say was about this: You have to split the numbers. So becomes 52 a 50 and a 2. That you do with both numbers. So 34 becomes 30 and 4.
Then you multiply them with each other. But only digits from different numbers! 2 * 4, 2 * 30, 4 * 50 and 4 * 2 you need, but not 4 * 30 or 50 * 2!!!
