CCSF 2010

I know, I know, it's incredibly early to be posting about this, but people are already thinking about CCSF 2010 over on Ctopia. Please check out the thread here, as the ideas are so varied that it would take me ages to cross-post them all :P

... There's certainly no pressure to get anything done right away, but there's no real harm in thinking about CCSF 2010 now even if it's quite a ways off, as I believe that part of what made CCSF '09 so successful was the extensive planning that we did for it beforehand...

... For now, think about answering the following questions:
* When do we want to hold it?
* How long should it run for?
* What kind of theme do we want to go for?
* Who will be organizing it?
* What kind of site should we have for it?
* How can we make it better than CCSF '09?

None of these questions can be answered quickly or easily, and they'll probably require a bit of thought and a lot of public opinion (ie: polls across several forums).

Oh, and for those of you wondering, regardless of whether or not I'm available I have no intention of organizing CCSF 2010. As much as I thoroughly enjoyed taking on this year's CCSF I'd rather let somebody else have the opportunity to organize next year's CCSF :)

*When do we want to hold it?
Not Christmas.

*How long should it run for?
I think 2 weeks has in general worked well in the past, so 2 weeks sounds good to me.

*What kind of theme do we want to go for?
Something really broad that everyone can get in on. I like the frontier theme that has developed over at CT.

*Who will be organising it?
Not me, I haven't really had the heart for organising CCSF since Liam left, and I wasn't as involved in the nitty gritty aspects as he or Don were.

*What kind of a site should we have for it?
I liked the blog version, but maybe with an "0 Comments" part on each post so that we can see if anyone's commented. (And maybe that would stimulate more comments.) If there was to be a dedicated forum for CCSF, it should be something special, away from the regular forums. Maybe also with something a bit creaturesy down the bottom of the page for the blog.

*How can we make it better than CCSF 09?
Better communication from all sides. Heeding the lessons from past years, trying something new if something old didn't work. More outreach to the non English speaking communities.

Definitely. This time around it was kind of a blind spot--there could be zero comments for a submission or there could be ten and either way you don't see it. And being able to download the file without clicking on the specific blog entry, chances are you don't even see the form to submit a comment unless you're specifically going there to submit a comment. Out of sight out of mind, as the saying goes.

Even with the "new frontiers" theme emerging, there are many frontiers. For example, in the early 1990s, the ocean seemed like the place to go. (SeaQuest DSV basically had the premise that the oceans rose up and swallowed the land so that we all had to become oceanographers. of course, that was *years* before ocean acidification became widely known...)

and of course, there's the classic "Space: The Final Frontier", although I think the CC doesn't really like the space theme so much, if you look at the popular worlds recently which exclude the stars entirely (Canopy, KT).

oh man deep ocean stuff would be really really cool

somehow merging both that and westish stuff into one horrible lovechild would be even better

^ THIS. Please. :D

I do like the notion though that "new frontiers" might inspire people to try new things. Though that would mean I would have to like...make a breed or something, gasp!

Or just continue with my path of trying to explore strange new ways to play Creatures, which is a lot more likely.

I do agree with what has been said thus far. I have to say, though, I'm not fond of the space concept because conceptually C3 and DS are already in space. However, Deep Sea would be excellent. Some new aquatic breeds, water rooms, that kind of thing would be fabulous.

rainbowcat, there are too many normal and water metarooms and not much of any other kind, so I disagree on the water metaroom part... unless this is part of a larger complex of metarooms?

I can organize anything that doesn't require any programming,If that helps. (I'm still a noob at programming)

rainbowcat, I wasn't trying to propose a deep sea theme as such, just to provide another way a 'new frontier'/'untrodden ground' theme could be explored. (Goodness I miss SeaQuest more than I thought I did. :P)

SeaQuest style norns. Now that seaquest got into the CC I suspect it will never leave until such a breed is made.

I think a good theme for the next CCSF should be Adventure. :)

I'd like to see an Indiana Norn mascot for something like that.

Well this may be connected to frontier theme but I was thinking about the "back to our roots" theme that was suggested back in 2008 but since I have not been with the community for long im not sure if it was used? I also want to mention that my idea might conflict with the time theme used in 09. I was thinking that we could do evolution or maybe genetics? We could see how advanced norns, ettins, and grendels have become but im a newbie to the community (though not creatures) so i hope i dont sound stupid. What do u all think? I also would prefer the 2010 ccsf not to be held during Christmas and new year as not many people will have time to enjoy the festivities (of ccsf of course)

Don't be worried about who is right, Just follow you heart...
