Strangeo Forum Happy Birthday Malkin!    Tea Queen Laura        8/8/2009 Today is Malkin's birthday (I hope she doesn't mind me posting this! ) so let's all wish her many happy returns! Also, I happen to know that she stayed at a zoo, of all places, last night. How it goes is that the zoo hosts an event every year in the middle of winter for girls and women to sleep out under the stars and to get an insight into how it might feel to be homeless. We fundraise to get a place at the zoo for this night, and in the past the money's gone to the Salvos, but I think the Salvos have pulled out this year and so it's going to the zoo instead. In practice, it's always worked out as pretty close to my birthday as makes no difference, so I've kind of co-opted it as my birthday party. We sleep at the bottom of the zoo near the elephants, although we only saw Papa Elephant - the new baby was hiding. The zoo showed a movie - Hotel for Dogs or something, which wasn't half bad. When the moon rose, I made sure to point out Venus, the morning star, and when the moon set in the morning, I woke up and pointed it out to those who weren't slugabeds. It's always the last star you see in the sky in the morning. When we left the zoo, we took a bit of a look around in the morning before we left and then we came home. We were also near the seal tanks and the petting zoo - early in the morning I could hear the rooster crowing and the seals barking.
