Following in Laura's brilliant example, it has been 15 minutes since the run began--and, due to a lot of playing on the lifts, the Norns are out-and-about in upper Albia.
*~Wild Albia - Day One~*

Officer 2BDI has been wandering the bridge for about five minutes now. She's roasting in the heat and all alone, obviously hungy. Hopefully she'll eat some of the berries in the direction she's heading.

Malkin (male) has been hovering by the cactus for some time now, still feeling a bit crowded from the earlier "incident" on the elevator (he was dragged in several times by the other rambunctious Norns). He seems to be taking notice to the nearby toy.

...And, speaking of Malkin, Officer 1BDI has approached the rather frazzled-looking Norn and started kissing him. I don't think he likes into the idea, though; maybe he thinks that Officer is after his toy?

Rascii has been hanging out on top of the Lookout Tower, "retreating weather" whenever a cloud passed him by. All this running appears to have made him tired by now.

Blue (angel51431) has just woken up from a nap and is now busily trying to push a cactus. Apparently, cacti don't have the same entertainment value as a rubber ball.

Ettinfreak has been stalking Dreamnorn during the whole Run so far, even though his supposedly older sibling in real life now looks a lot smaller and younger. What a scary thought.

Brownie (PianoPrincess) has been staring at her hands for a long time, lonely and hungy, but has grown up at a remarkable rate! Maybe she and Rascii could get together for some early romance in the run? C'mon, Norns, we need to see some action!

Ghosthande (male) I spotted eating fish from the fishpole and fruit from the vendor (see the trifid over there?). After playing the drums for a little bit, he got tired and fell asleep. I wish I took a picture of him earlier, though. He's one of the Norns who loves to flash the person behind the monitor a happy, vacant grin.

Perhaps the only Norn not on the upper platform right now, Panda-mist is--shockingly--proclaiming her hunger with a fruit vendor right in front of her. Heck, even she's surprised!
Anyway, that's all the news for now! I'll update in a little while.
EDIT: Okay, I couldn't resist...

Gad, I love Angel Norns.

EDIT: Goodness gracious, have I been working so long on this update that I didn't notice I had two replies? *slaps self*
Thank you! And I highly reccomend C2, Epaeris. It's a wonderful game once you patch it up.
Panda-mist was flying around so long that she got very hungry. She hovered around by where both of the Officers (1BDI and 2BDI) were eating, but she didn't get the message...

There are the Officers, trying to wake up a dying Panda. I can only watch in dismay now.
Yup. There I heard it. The withering dying sound of a Norn. Panda is floating up the Silicon Heaven now. Hopefully the other Norns will eat something so they don't suffer the same fate.

At least we have some hope, though. Ghosthande (male) has found a fruit vendor. Let's hope he decides to push it for some of that fruity goodness.

Ettinfreak has stopped stalking me (how dare you?! ) and is now following Malkin (male) around instead. But when I look at that picture, I keep on wanting to caption it. Maybe next time a "Caption Contest" begins in Strangeo it could be for Creatures screenshots? Hmm...

As I hoped for earlier, Rascii and Brownie (PianoPrincess) have bumped into each other, but both seem to be hungry. There's Brownie proclaiming her hunger and Rascii lowering the fish hook to satesfy their hunger needs. What a gentleman! Perhaps some sparks will fly over some raw salmon.

Assuming the status as a loner of our run, Blue (angel51431) has been living nice and easy in the old hatchery area. Despite what it looks like, she's been eating well and has played a lot with the resident doozers.
And now I'll leave the game alone for a few hours. Stay tuned! You're welcome to leave comments or ask questions for/about the Run.

Neither of my norns have died yet? I'm already doing better than I was in Laura's run.

The Feral Run looks great!
By the way DreamNorn, if you ever need another Norn in the run, could you please enter me. I was a bit late to notice the Feral Run has started but if you do enter me you can make me any Norn you want, I don't mind . |

Officer-1BDI wrote: Neither of my norns have died yet? I'm already doing better than I was in Laura's run. Spoke too soon, Officer. While I was away, Officer 1BDI passed away. Same for Malkin, Ettinfreak, Brownie, and Rascii (though hopefully I won't get banned for that one). Sorry, guys.
There are, however, three new births. To avoid confusion, I have given them all names.

Alvar I caught wandering about the bridge. The son of Officer 1BDI (deceased) and Ghosthande, he's apparently an eater. This little fellow is only 13 minutes old and looks like he needs a nap.

Apollo, despite being only 27 minutes old, is a full-fledged adult. Son of Brownie (deceased) and Ettinfreak (deceased), he has probably inherited his mother's fast-aging genes. Looks like he's giving Dreamnorn a hard time right now.

Aiden is another one of Ettinfreak's and Brownie's orphaned sons. Two minutes older than his brother, he seems to be doing nothing interesting, unless you count staring at the lift to be a most invigorating topic.
The remaining 1st-gen Norns are doing pretty well.
Officer 2BDI has moved from the lush, food-filled treehouse-area to the cold stone above the volcano. It's hard to explain what she's doing, but it looked a little like she was dancing.

Blue (angel51431) seems quite content in her humble home at the hatchery. I personally don't blame her. Plentiful bilberry bushes, toys, and two new male stowaways... I tell you, Blue has got it all.

Ghosthande (male) is wandering all alone beneath the treehouse, where Officer 1BDI and Officer 2BDI usually ate and played. Maybe he's missing their company?
This is getting interesting. We now have only two females left, with only one in the vicinity of males. Will they live to breed sucessfully? Will one of the Norns finally meet the resident Grendel or Ettin? Will Dreamnorn be banned because Rascii's Norn died? These questions will be answered in a few hours, when I update one more time for today.
EDIT: I'm glad you like my Run, C-Rex and Epaeris! I did, however, allow plenty of time in this topic for entries to the Feral Run. Perhaps next time? If this goes sucessfully, I think I'll start another one late in the summer.

Wow... I'm so excited that the Run has so much chatter. Yes, I think I will do another sometime this summer vacation... or maybe for the CCSF? The possibilities!
Malkin: I actually caught him just as he was going up, but didn't think to take a picture. I think it was starvation.
...And, since our last update, we've had more deaths. I'm sorry to say that Dreamnorn (crud), Apollo and Aiden have all died. But, on the positive side, we've had three new births!
Officer-1BDI, here's a question: sure, you're glad you've had one Norn baby, but what do you feel about two? Or three? Or FOUR?

Boadicea, daughter of Officer 2BDI and Ghosthande (male), has been born! She appears to be hungry... but, by the looks of the picture, she has the right idea.

Bianca, another one of Officer 2BDI's and Ghosthande's offspring, seems to have wandered to the castle ruins. She's happy and fed, but looks pretty tired.

Beauregard is the last of Officer's and Ghosthande's current offspring, and the only boy of the bunch. I think he, too, needs a nap, but I think that those wooden planks would be most unaccommodating.
Three newborns, and all of them progeny of Officer 2BDI and Ghosthande. Congratulations, you guys, you have some very good breeders.

Alvar is the only "A" Norn still alive. He seems to be chronically bored and hasn't done anything useful or interesting for the last half hour.

Blue (angel51431) has not moved from her home in the hatchery yet and doesn't seem to plan on doing so. She's perfectly fine eating tomatoes and bilberry and playing with the doozers. My opinion on how she has a pretty good thing going hasn't changed.

Officer 2BDI has wandered away from everyone entirely (but what about your mate and children?!). She's incredibly lonely and bored. But on the positive side, she has her full, Animal Norn markings!

Ghosthande (male) has moved to the spot where Boadicea was standing a few seconds ago. Looks like he's perfectly happy with his bouncy ball and is considering eating some fruit (c'mon, man, take it... it's good for your health!).
...And that wraps it up for now. The Run will be paused overnight and start again tomorrow morning. Will Blue move away from the hatchery? Will Officer go back to her family? And will someone explain why bilberries are floating above Alvar's picture? You'll find out tomorrow's update for the Forum Feral Run!

Wow... a lot of chatter about the Feral Run. I'm honored. And all kinds of interesting questions as well!
Before you get excited, this is not a regular update--the Run will continue late this morning or early in the afternoon, since I have schoolwork to do. This is more of an answer-questions sort of update.
Epaeris: I, unfortunately, don't know much about the workings of a Norn brain OR their genetics. I wonder the exact same thing.
Ghosthande: I certainly would, if I knew how. I think I'll post a Help topic for it, though--I don't want these Norns to pass away on my Hard Drive when they could be cared for by people who are willing to download them.
Officer-1BDI: I believe it was an incredible stroke of luck. I can't breed C2 Norns either. Maybe this Run is telling us that Norns breed better without the Hand watching them?
angel51431: I wholeheartedly agree, but I haven't seen any wallbonking yet. I mean, you'd figure that one of them got OHSS by now...
SpringRain: Awww, I'm glad you're enjoying the Run! Yes, I like to give elegant-sounding names to my Norns. It makes them sound handsome or beautiful as well as a lot smarter than they probably are.
...And that's it for now. When I'm done with school this afternoon, I'll continue the epic saga of the Run! *Dun dun DUUUN*

!The Feral Run is Halted!
I don't know what happened. I was just about to get into the world to start the Run again, and it crashes less than a minute later. The same thing happens several times trying--and restoring the world doesn't help.
Forgive me for double posting, but I thought I'd let you know that it's possible for me to export the creatures out of Albia one at a time before the world crashes. Should I export them all and import them into a new world?
On one hand, I don't want the Feral Run to stop yet... it's only been running for a day, and things are looking more and more interesting.
On the other hand, the Run will NOT be perfect, because this will involve Handish interference.
What do you think? Should I export the Norns and put them into a new Albia, or halt the Run entirely?
 |

Officer-1BDI

|
5/28/2009 | |
In my experience, unless you can find the agent/creature crashing the world in the one minute window that you can actually run that world then it's basically lost for good.
I don't mind HAND interference in this case; I assume you'd just be exporting and reimporting the norns, possibly place everyone back where they were when they were exported, which is minimal enough interference that I don't think it would affect the norns significantly.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

Agreed. If you're just exporting/importing and possibly moving them back to their previous locations, it isn't enough interference to really change much.

It's taken me all day to get to it, but HERE IT IS! The next update of the Feral Run. *cheers* I followed Officer's and Ghosthande's advice and imported them into as identical an Albia as I could make it.
*~Wild Albia - Day Two~*
And--oddly enough, for the third time in a row--we have three new births!

Charity is very young--only 12 minutes old and yet another daughter of Officer 2BDI and Ghosthande. Currently, she seems to be socializing with Boadicea.

Cypselus is the son of Ghosthande and Blue (which I find odd, as Blue's fertility was registered as zero). He seems pretty hungry too, but is thankfully heading to an area with lots of fruit for him to eat.

Cenobia is our first real 3rd-generation Norn, being the daughter of Officer 2BDI and Avlar. She's hungry too, but hopefully will notice the berries right in front of her.

Bianca is now about 45 minutes old, and by the looks of this picture is about ready to devour the remains of Speedy the Doozer.

Blue (angel51431) has still not budged from her humble habitat. Yes, that's an egg right over there. I hope it will hatch.

Beauregard is all by himself and appears quite angry. He claims to be "looking," but there doesn't seem to be much scenery to look at. Perhaps that's why he's mad?

Alvar, who's now about an hour and a half old, is following Bianca's example and is trying to eat a slinky. Be careful, man--I wouldn't want one of those lodged in my windpipe.

Officer 2BDI and Ghosthande (male) seem exhausted and arre lounging about in the desert (yes, Officer is sleeping... peculiar position, though). I don't see why they wouldn't be tired; they're the parents to the majority of Albia.
...That's all for now. If I'm lucky, I'll upload one more time today. Things were pretty hectic these last few hours, which is why I didn't get to updating for so long.
Will we have enough genetic diversity to support future Albia? Will the egg next to Blue's picture hatch? And will Speedy the Doozer ever see the light of day again? We'll find out next update! See you soon!

SpringRain: Most of the names are from real history or legend. It usually depends on what I read that day before I name a creature. For example, Cypselus was named after a Greek king. And yes, I love the sleeping-while-standing position too. x3

*~Wild Albia - Day Three
Only one death to report: I'm afraid that Officer 2BDI passed on to the happy cheese haven in the sky. That's quite a shame, seeing as she was one of the best breeders in the Run. At least she left several legacies.
Rather than the usual three new births, we have only one this time.

Decimus is about our tenth birth. He's only 12 minutes old (so I caught him pretty quick) and appears to be eating plenty of coconuts. He's the son of Bianca and Ghosthande (male).

Speaking of Bianca (1 hr, 52 min), she and Alvar (2 hr, 38 min) have been lingering by the horn whatchamacallit on the bridge. I think I almost heard a kisspop earlier... but I'm not sure.

Charity (1 hr, 24 min) has been staring at the lift for fifteen minutes now, like she's pondering to go down it. Her stats say that she's pretty darn hungry and should eat, but she shows no sign of self-preservation by doing so. Bah.

Boadicea (1 hr, 52 min) has daringly entered the volcano and is growing hungrier and hungrier every minute. But, being the sweetheart that she is, decides to teach the Grendel some new words with Speedy the Doozer (who seems to have moved down there for no apparent reason). A learning experience for us all.

Cypselus (1 hr, 17 min) is happy and well-fed on the bridge, but seems to be bored. He seems to be trying to "push weather" like most C2 Norns do, but there isn't a cloud above him. Rather peculiar, no?

Blue (angel51431; 4 hr, 5 min) and Beauregard (1 hr, 40 min) have been smooching each other over the tomato patch. Awww... maybe we'll be lucky and hear some more little Norn feet soon!

Cenobia (1 hr, 16 min) is exhautedly staring at the bouncy-thingy (yeah, I don't know what it's called). I don't blame her, though--five minutes straight of playing on that thing would make me tired too.

Ghosthande (male; 4 hr, 4 min) has been wandering aimlessly with a vacant grin on his face for a while now. He appears quite pleased with himself... maybe he's thrilled to see that all of the next generation of Albia seems to have El Dorado Norn genes?
And, we may have a new surprise heading our way...

It looks about ready to hatch, don't you think? I hope it will; Albia is slowly filling up again!
...That's all for now, folks! Will Charity get enough common sense to fulfill her hunger needs? Will Blue and Beauregard mate so we may have even more little Nornies? And how on earth did Speedy the Doozer get down into the volcano when he was last seen in the hatchery? All will be revealed next time I update for the Forum Feral Run!
Ahaha, I love doing that. XD I need to see a psychiatrist or something if I keep on doing those chains of questions.
