Thank you Malkin, that does help for the spider movements!

by Lamia do you mean a naga? a half-serpent? I've thought of that actually; I'm not sure how to depict a snake movement from a side view; but I could look it up.
Similar to a naga, yes. Top half norn, bottom half snake.
Rectilinear (described here) should be, I think, fairly easy to pull off in a side view.

My favorite norn is still Belldandy. |

a lamia and a naga are different myths :3 typically lamia are a completely female species whereas naga are normally depicted with spears and hoods like cobra |

Spykkie

|

I think lamia might be a name that is wrongfully used for nagas, since lamias of older times are often depicted as scaly lions with the head of a woman?

lamia was originally a beautiful queen of libya but she became zeus' mistress which upset hera so she cursed her and turned her into a children eating monster with the lower body of a serpent and forced her to devour her own children so she goes mad from grief and takes revenge by eating other peoples children.
your description of lamia only came about in the 17th century from Edward Topsell's The History of Four-Footed Beasts |

Spykkie

huh, interesting; that would explain the depictions of lamia that look like a snake with a woman's head and nothing else.

i like myths and legends a lot and spent most of my time when i was younger reading about them
you made the pearl mermaids right? well i thought of a taur idea that would work similar to them but based off of selkies. they are essentially mermaids but with the bodies of seals |

Spykkie

Same! Ancient mythology is so fascinating.
it's what made me want to write fantasy stories ![[heart] [heart]](/images/smilies/heart.gif)
Yes I made the pearl mermaids in the same way as the Taurs. I must admit the though of selkies crossed my mind, since they are so similar... but I don't know how they would move: swim or crawl? Crawling would look better on land, but in the water swimming would be better... seals can do both of course, but I'm sadly limited to only one...

i would imagine they would swim since when selkies come on land they don't have tails they take off their tails like a coat and walk about looking like normal people so it might be better to keep them as swimmers. with the swimming i have to inject my pearl mermaid with one of the chemicals for the swimming agent to work but she mostly sinks to the bottom xD |

My older sister has been begging for a C3 type mermaid Norn. She likes the Pearl Mermaids, but she's not overly fond of the C2 style. Personally, I love them.

I loved the mernorns from C2! I heard there were no plans for the c2 mernorns to ever be ported to c3, that's why I made the pearl mermaid norns.

I'd really love C3/DS styled Mernorns, as well.
Besides the pearl mermaids, the only merbreed is the Aquanorns. I like the aquanorns and all, but they're still rather goofy - something that looks more elegant would be much appreciated.
As for an idea for a merbreed: I would like to see something that looks like a mernorn for its entire lifespan rather than just the adultstage. For actual variants, a sharknorn (like Aqualbia's mascot) would be awesome to see.
On other Taurs: I can't think of anything that really tickles my fancy, but the norn-spider idea sounds really neat.

How about a C3 Scorpio Norn? One that actually looks like a scorpion? Failing that I wouldn't mind to see more Mernorns. Something shiny and with detailed scales would be good. |

A what? *looks it up* hooo, so that's what those deep water salamanders are called! They are cute and colourful! ^^ but wouldn't those make a much better full body breed with their pretty head gills?
I'm intrigued by the potential of a snail type of taur as well...

I wouldn't mind if you take any ideas from my mer-concept dump, Spykkie. I am certainly in no hurry to go back to any of them at the moment. Especially the froggy ettins idea, amusing as they are to me.
Lobsters and sea snails, I can definitely see those too!

Of course you can use your idea, Lilynorn! XD
This is only asking everyone what they want to see.
If you feel inspired to make your own breed, I don't exactly have the authority or power to stop you XD
If you're worried we'll draw the same thing, then just tell me which colours you'll use so I'll use different ones if i do make a satyr breed?

I'm using the Fallows, with goat hooves for legs and changes to the hair and eye colors. The females are going to have gray furred goat parts, and the males will have a charcoal color or possibly white or brown. I'm going to give the females purple polished hooves. :3

If I make a satyr breed, maybe I'll use the bruin and make them bruin brown.

Back on the subject of mercreatures: I was watching my pair of Pearlmaids walk around after they became adults, and it occurred to me just how standard the usual up-and-down tail movement is among merfolk (not just in Creatures - about how everyone with merpeople makes the tail move up and down).
I think it would be neat to see a mernorn whose tail moves from side to side instead.

It probably would be neat to see, the hard part is getting it done right XD
The truth is, fish do swim by moving their tails left and right, but that movement involves the entire body and is rather subtle in nature.
That's why most people will draw mer-anything with up-down movements instead, since it's easier to not involve the entire body that way, and the movements are more dramatic, making them easier to see and portrait.
Truth be told, i've been trying to picture in my head how a 4 sprite left-right tail movement would work ever since someone mentioned sharkmen as a possible breed

It's less a matter of style, I think. It's more a mammal vs. fish swimming style. Mermaids are normally associated with that up and down swimming style anyway. In any case, I'd also love to see some that swim more like fish with more fish like features. I just think that would be awesome. : D

I, personally, would like to see changes in breeds in general. They all look the same; there's not alot that are really unique
I want horns.. badly. Nasty, mean, menacing horns. Creatures with hooves and claws are neat aswell. Wings are good too, but already done several times. Anything strange or out of the ordinary I drool over. Bird norns, as mentioned, are much needed aswell. I'd love to see a breed with wings for arms, beaks, a feathered tail and talons for legs. Think the C2 bird norns are a good example of this.
I think your taur breeds would do good with their own sprite sets that fit the theme, so their sprites besides the legs arn't copies of official C3 norns. Beastaurs with claws and tusks/fangs and some gender dimorphisim, Centaurs with horns and manes on their body sprite aswell. I was a little disspointed that they weren't otherwise altered, but I'm using them anyway. They're new and I like new things! I don't actually expect you do this realistically however; they're just suggestions. |

@ Rat-tailed: If it didn't take forever to make full body breeds and work out the Atts, I'd be making some; I do have some ideas for full body breeds, but sadly it takes so long that I just can't find the time and will to do it alone... I have too many other things to juggle at this point in time.. :/
You seem to know what you want pretty vividly; have you ever made your own? I think you could make very unique and interesting breeds if you tried!
