Agentrock, Necro is a latin term:
Necro meaning dead, or the dead
Mancy, usually refered to the field of, or specialization of, or control of.

Hurray Ghosthande has showed us the technique to use special things!

That's why it's called a portmanteau.

Agentrock, I got the joke, but I was just mentioning it in case you weren't aware.
Norn, mancer, norn controller, if only we could get the latin meaning for cro, or maybe the etymology....

Sorry, but I haven't really studied latin much, but, please tell me what portmanteau means, I'll try to find it out on my own.

Then again, I assume it means the specialization or use of special techniques....

It's explained here. Basically just when you cluge two words together to make a new one.

I can't think of anything in Latin but in Greek "cro[no]" can refer to time... hence "chronometer".

I think that portmanteau is another word for conjunction/contraction, meaning two words put together, but portmanteau would be used to refer I guess to latin, and greek, but conjunction/contraction is for most average english

Conjunction/contraction: Don't- Do not, Can't-Cannot & Can not
Portmanteau: Necromancer- one who may have slight control over the dead, usually refers to those who use zombies, and/or mostly have abilities relating to raising the dead, and/or creating undead

The wiki says the two terms are able to overlap, but it's important to know the differences.

If cro=chrono=time, that would mean Norncromancer= One who has power over norns and time, or the time of norns

Portmanteau mostly refers to when two words are combined, not really at all to latin, ex:
Spork= Portmanteau
Linner= Portmanteau
Brunch= Portmanteau
Don't= Contraction
Cannot= Contraction

The difference is use of apostrophes, and where it sometimes ends up removing a letter, which is replaces by the apostrophe.

Latin I guess refers to the language of the dead, which is commonly used today in science, law, and other fields.

Portmanteau is not really something that can refer to latin, as latin, does not really use the common portmanteau idea.

Latin often uses the small words, combined, to make big words, with new meanings, but not a direct fusion.

A portmanteau is a fusion, say a spork is a fork and a spoon.

The clear differentation is that in portmanteaus, the two words combine, compromising, to where they both lose letters.

Latin does not lose letters often, it often makes new words with the two.
In latin
Necro
+Mancy
Necromancy
In portmanteau (The style I guess)
Necro
+Mancy
Necrancy?

With portmanteaus, the words use letters based upon the pronounciation of the future word, and if it is easy to say.
Say,
A spork is easier to say and makes more sense when said then:
Fpork
They often keep letters that are commonly shared, or ones that sound easier.

I think that the style of combination lattin uses is much different than the common portmanteau, and/or contraction

Pretty complicated and confusing
Funny, I'm just guessing this in my mind from my knowledge, as I go on....

Doesn't matter what language it's in--in fact I'm pretty sure "portmanteau" is actually French. :P

Latin terms are kept intact because they aren't contractions per se, they're technical terms that are (usually) supposed to describe what they refer to. So you wouldn't want to contract a Latin term because you'd lose the meaning.

Anyways, this is all totally off topic now. Back to the Norns. :D

The first C2 Norn I ever hatched was a female named Amy. She was depressed and constantly threw herself off the dock into the ocean. I'd carry her all the way back to the hatchery room and she'd make a beeline for the dock every time. After rescuing her 20-30 times I finally gave up and let her drown herself.

Most C2 Norns have problems and I've had a few others who liked to go for a swim occasionally, but she was downright suicidal!

Oh my pizza! Ghosthande, I was thinking THE SAME THING!
I was thinking the portmanteau is french, because of the way it sound like it should be pronounced.

I still figured that it was likely I was wrong.
I know they aren't contractions, I was thinking the same thing.
If we minus letters from either word, it could easily be confused with another latin term I guess.

Anyways, all the norns have been doing strange things.

Arnout, they may be doing that because of their skin, myself, and starscream (As starscream claims to live in arizona), both can tell you that when you live in a desert, your skin can be easily irritable.

Especially in winter! (I have a skin problem, to where my skin can get dry and irritable, it'll begin to get ridges like the ones in a chinchilla's fur, and I won't be able to resist scratching. Later, it'll eventually begin to bleed, no matter what I do.)

So that could explain it.

My skin problem?
I don't think it's weird, it could be considered normal if you watch a bunch of medical shows, or you're in the medical field.....

Luckily, I've been smart, so, as long as I wear comfortable clothing, use the right paper, don't use soap (Most forms cause the problem), and use lotion on my hands, knees, and elbows every once in a while, I'll be fine!

Luckily, the problem hasn't happened that bad at that stage for a while, though it can/has happened, but not at a horrible stage, and it goes away quickly.

and use lotion on my hands, knees, and elbows every once in a while,

Dang, I've got the same problem. Elbows get all itchy and peely in dry weather. Hasn't happened since I left Arizona though.

But I have to agree that this is wildly off topic--Norns aren't capable of having skin conditions per se. Likely they're just being stupid, like mine was.

My Norns haven't done anything very strange lately, although I did start an IQ test and found two Norns that failed. One was obsessed with eating elevators even when they were on different levels. The other was obsessed with eating doors. And all the winners who actually made it back to the Meso somehow got infected with some Histamine and most of them died, so the strange-thing-eaters were the only survivors due to their isolation. Poo.

my norns always say "maybe left/right something" I usually slap them for being stupid when they do.

Oh, yeah, sorry!

((Ghosthande, in my case, the skin does not peel, it splits, it gets ridges. Ever seen a chinchilla, well the fur, gets space in between, that's what happens to my skin, but the gaps are tiny, and move slowly. my hands are where the skin problem is focused.))

Anyways, um, the norns in my game, and in general, my creatures, have been behaving strangely.

I got C3 and DS downloaded onto my parent's comp, and well, strange things have happened. (Can't download C3 on my comp, my comp only reads sound files from cds, it's been that way for a while)

I decided to move an ettin to the workshop, it moved to a different location.
I also put an ettin in the norn meso, in the capitilla.
The ettin in the meso complained of boredom, and refused to move to any other location, but, there weren't any gadgets in the meso....

The other ettin, moved into the ark, and I soon found a hoard of three gadgets, right next to the egg layer, and the ettin, far away.

I later spliced the ettins with norns, and the babies, never move outside the splicer room.....

Once I was raising a family of Cat Norns in C2, I had two adults (Parents), one Adolescent, and an unborn egg. Well I hatched the egg in the incubator, and the adolescent Norn was waiting for her baby sister to be born, and when she did hatch, the adolescent held out her arms, as to say "Come here my cute little baby sister" and the baby smacked her right in the face, lol! She put on a surprised expression and the mom was running around with her hands over her head looking like she was about to scream her head off. It was just a hilarious scene :D

I just had something very funny happen with one of my ettins. She was moping around in the Capillata hub, and I'd just installed Clohse's New Bridge, so I transferred her there. She promptly ate all of the Kiss Berries, and made a beeline for home!!! XD

I could almost hear her singing:
'Show me the way to go home,
I'm tired and I want to go to bed,
I had a little fruit about a minute ago,
and it's gone straight to me head!'

She didn't quite make it, though - she had a nap outside the door, sleeping off her alcohol a bit. She came back for more, but decided to line her stomach first with cheese... XD

I have a strange Norn behaviour. One of my Norns in a world separate from my Sabertooths is a C1 horse Norn from C12DS and he lives well up to his name.

When his father, Articis, died, he was standing with his back turned to me, down under the tree in Terra with the Spikous Bacterium. (I think he was playing with their nests) Anyway, I was sad but then something surprising happened. A speech bubble came from him!

I hurriedly opened his info page to check whether he was really dead or actually still alive. No...it said 'dead'. So, really surprised, I thought it may be some kind of weird glitch and typed in 'happy'. A word I always ask my Norns because they will either tell you they are(extremely/intensely/really/very or just 'name/me happy') happy or say one of the other needs preventing their happiness.

What a shock when he replied with another speech bubble! I thought that it was terrible but also was relieved he was still alive. But he couldn't move. He was frozen there.

And then another shock...a familiar dusty sparkle cloud was coming to sweep him away. Still alive, or so I thought. It was rather depressing.

And then I started to laugh. Revealed at last was the mischief maker. A tiny baby horse Norn had been hidden behind his father's legs the entire time. His name is 'Hide', very appropriately, and he spoke again as soon as I spotted him, like he knew he'd been found. (Although, how could he? It only seemed that way. XD)

I whisked him off to the Norn meso shaking my head. There are too many good hiding places in Terra metaroom. I named him that because when he was born he was over in the grass by the edge rock and blended in so well with the surroundings that I only found him when opening his info page and after some more searching.

He's grown up now and is paired with a Norn from the Christmas wolfling run by Laura.

I remember a long time ago I would download literally every custom breed for the game, the most recent I just got back then was the "Halloween Norns".

I went and hatched one, and immediatly, I mean like literally the second it hit the floor it got up and made a beeline straight for my other Norns, it took me a few minutes before I figured it out, but I came back to see that there was a pile of dead Norns and it was already slapping it's next victim to death.

The weirdest part is no matter where I hid the survivors, IT would chase them, like it knew exactly where they where, through doors, teleporters, didn't even matter, and would home in on the first norn it saw and start beating them to death.

Many years later I decided to download the Halloween Norns again to see if this was just part of the breed's features and try to replicate the incident, I hatched a whole bunch and they acted like perfectly normal norns.
For whatever reason that indiviual was extremely violent and persistant, it never happened again with any other creature.
