What are your strangest pet peeves about Creatures? I hate Norns and Grendels with Ettin arms, they look like T-Rexes. I also delete photos that have a speech bubble or the hand in them, even when no one will see them. |

Well, I don't like most Civet Norn mixes. There is a fix that prevents speech bubbles from appearing in photos. I use it because I hate those things in photos, too. -GrayDragonEmily |

I don't mind as much in DS, but I hated the speech bubble thing in C1, because they always turned hot pink in the photos. Not only distrating, but ugly too!  I hate it when I have a Norn that needs to do something (like eat food), says he wants to do it (or even that he is doing it), but then won't actually do it. I've had otherwise healthy CFE Norns starve to death because they just decided not to eat anymore, even when the food was right in front of them and I told them to eat it. They'd just stand there, mill around, stare at it, and talk about eating it. It's happened with other behaviors but that's probably the most lethal. ![[ngrimace]](/images/smilies/emot_grimace.gif "[ngrimace]")  |

My Sabertooth Norns being homesick constantly. Even if I inject lots of Norn Home Smell emitters, nothing seems to alleviate their homesickness. Poor litle guys. Maybe it's just my Norns...I don't like watching them be unhappy.  But it happens to me everytime I have them in KT. I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley! |

Thanks for the info on the agent which modifies speech bubbles -- that's something I'm picky about as well. Actually, I sometimes go even further -- I tend to delete pictures that have anything in them other than the norn I'm trying to photograph and the background (the hand, other norns, speech bubbles, the hover-doc, etc.) |

SpringRain: the new update should fix everything. To be doubly, doubly sure, make sure to delete "norn.saber2.cfe.gen" from your C3 or DS Genetics folder first (if it's there), to make sure it unpacks the genome "fresh".  |

(which is short anyway). ![[ngrin]](/images/smilies/emot_grin.gif "[ngrin]") Speech bubbles in pictures don't worry me. I like capturing some of the cute or funny things my Norns are saying. I don't normally end up with overflowing populations because of my controlled breeding methods. Since this thread is about pet peeves though, I guess I'd better say another. Hmm...Norns falling in the piranah pool because they ignored me and pressed the button >.> I hate that! I'm back after 11 years. Holy dooley! |

Norns pushing elevator buttons - that noise is so annoying! By the way, I don't care if anyone steals my ideas for their own work, as long as you don't try to stop me from making my own stuff. Many ideas I mention are things I don't have the time or skill to actually do. |

Norns obsessed with elevators. Not just buttons, but going up and down... and Norns forgetting how to eat, especially when it comes to eating seeds. |

Did anyone else ever have that problem where the game suddenly decides to center the camera on a creature that just changed lifestage, usually interrupting whatever else you were doing? That's probably my biggest peeve with C3/DS, and am hoping it's controlled by a .cos file and not the game engine, so I can turn it off once I figure out what file's responsible. I actually have that happening constantly in mine, Grendel_Man, and I don't recall it ever happening back before my unexpected "break". I just think of it as an odd quirk that comes from being run on modern systems, kind of like the insanely speedy life cycles and movements of every critter in all of the metarooms. But talking of peeves, my C3/DS peeve has to be when the norns turn on those darn pulse switch/button things. I guess with no ettins or grendels in one of the worlds they think that they have to pick up the slack in the kleptomaniac department as well! :/ From the depths of Deep Lurkspace I emerge... And suddenly can't remember what it is I came up for. |

Where do I start? My creatures frequently starve because they are ADD. Often they will ride back and forth in that little cart on the ocean floor (which even makes an annoying noise!) until they starve to death. Today my male purple mountain norn died because he was too busy staring at and kissing the other creatures. Sometimes they just play with their food, never eating it, which is cute at first but it soon gets irritating. The cable car - because every time you make it go one direction, they will send it in the other. It's almost impossible to get them across. They see vehicles as toys not means of transportation. Also, the bees in Creatures 2. My speakers probably exploded the first time I came across them. |

Norns aren't great at prioritising drives, and they get forgetful as they age. Bee Silent! might help you with your C2 Bee issue. My TCR Norns |

I will definitely "bee" installing this if I get Creatures 2 to work! Most of these norns are older, so you might be right about them being senile. The purple mountain one wasn't, but I think he was just too dumb to live. |

This kind of rebellious 'I'm too good to push food' behaviour sets in at adolescence, sad to say... Some attempts to gengineer this out of the population include giving a greater reward for eating food than for playing with toys, as in the "Red Happy Eater" Norns (later, these genes were incorporated into the Wood Norns) and the "Hierarchy Norn". I love wood norns! I will be hatching some more tomorrow so I'll see if their behavior is any better. Hierarchy norns sound good, maybe worthy of an experiment. |

I first thought it was cute that my norn Casey was love to "push Hand" anytime I was near. That was until she became completely obsessed with me an refused to do anything else (eat, breed, etc) if I was anywhere near her. This annoyance was worsened when she made the medical bay her home, and I couldn't inject a creature I was working on saving because she kept pulling Hand! I would pick her up and stick her near the hatches, and within a few minutes, she would find her way back to me so I couldn't see what I was doing with her big, cute face in the way. I had never had this happen before in all my years of playing, but she must have passed it to some of her offspring because the same thing it happening with them. It's cute at first, but.. oh man, it gets annoying! I want to create a C3 breed someday.. Formally defectiveminx. |

I never cross different breeds unless they look similar (Siamese and Fallow, for example). Also, I have to put the meaning of my Norn's name in his description box. Have to. No idea why. Before that whole extended-history agent I got, I also wrote the norn's parents/DNA donors/surrogate mothers in, as well. Don't care; I'm a bear. |

I hate how the Pufferfish COB in Creatures 2 often gets stuck in the airlock area. It isn't that much of a big deal, but if a Norn falls in the water it can be a matter of life or death. ![:\](/images/smilies/confused.gif ":\") |

For some reason, I normally prefer to download breeds that have sprites that mix well with standard Norns/Grendels/Ettins. When I decide to download breeds that don't mix well with official breeds when it comes to sprites, I make a world just for them. For example, I have a world exclusively for Sabertooth Norns. -GrayDragonEmily |

I've done that. I don't know what happened to it, but I used to have a draconic norn/c1 grendel world because both their sprites are flat. |

The ways to snap them out of this are the same you use to save non-CFE norns from elevators - coaxing with speech commands works sometimes but a smack will always fix the problem. You can drag them around in their mentally vacant state by holding their hand but the issue is not resolved and the creature continues to waste away until you give them a smack. I've been meaning to monitor this with the biochemistry set - I want to discover what is causing this behaviour to see if there's any way it can be fixed. One of my biggest pet peeves is... when my norns mutate into some kind of terrible beast because I've downloaded breeds which weren't compatible with them. This is partly why I no longer use the C1toDS metaroom, it's awesome but I hate seeing norns with C1 norn arms or heads. Ooooooooooweeeeeeeeeeoooooooooo |

All of you are lucky! I've had norns that have done all of the above and almost never been able to stop. I even had one norn who wouldn't move, eat, or even respond to any commands for a day. I can't even remember how I fixed it but it was the most annoying thing I've ever come across in the game. I think my biggest pet peeve would have to be slap-happy norns. I haven't played my old save-file for a while, but I had this one ridiculously old norn (around two years or something ridiculous) who survived solely by beating up everyone who came near her; even sweet little baby norns. I tried training her to stop killing people, but it never worked, so I had to lock her in a room somewhere because I couldn't bring myself to shoot her out of the airlock. I would occasionally receive death messages when unsuspecting norns would wander into her "lair," as I dubbed it. ~Ratty <3 |

This is more of a peeve with myself, but I didn't know about the sound effects for dying and shivering, so i hear those noises a bunch of times AND I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. Also a weird one, on the Creature Labs website there's a page that says lemons contain ANTIGENS instead of antibodies. That's a really bad typo... |

I hate it when Grendels are born with the ears from the CA2DS breeds, and I also don't see the point in breeds, such as the Dodgy Norns, that are just simply recoloured sprites. |

That actually just might be it! They hatch right next to the cheese machine and then usually I stick them in the learning room which also only contains the cheese machine. My odd pet peeve is norns hitting machines or dispensers, it drives me insane! it doesn't happen too often, as its probably the result of me not teaching my norns properly -_-" It also annoys me when a norn says they want something but will make no effort to get it even though its right in front of them, or when I suggest "eat seed" for example and they will try to eat every other thing but seeds!
