I was just going to update the CCSF site and noticed an odd folder there called ".smileys" -- which contained about 10 smiley .gif's. OK, I just created that site and the folder and everything yesterday. I DID NOT include smileys. I have NEVER seen these smileys before. Where did they come from? How did they get there? What are they doing on my domain?? If anybody has any ideas as to why this happened, how it happened, or anything, please explain this to me. I'm feeling paranoid and just plain annoyed. I've heard of people stealing your bandwidth, but this is nuts. Thank you.  |

Is it possible that your web hosting server threw the folder into your account as part of their service package? It wouldn't surprise me to learn that they gave you a standard set of smilies for any forum you might build. *has never made a web site outside of the likes of Geocities or Google and has no idea how these things really work* You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there. -- Jim Adkins |

Officer-1BDI is right, that is probably something like a service for your domain or something similar. who would hack you and places then just some smileys on your server? look through the system files of your OS. not changing, just a bit looking through. it is incredible what things you can find so. who would hack you and places then just some smileys on your server? Beats me. The thing I don't get is the fact that I've got multiple sites on that server, so if this is some kind of package deal why put it within two folders pertaining to a specific site? And why that site in particular? |

I don`t know. is it your server system or mine? maybe that site is different than the others? maybe only that site`s URL is hosted by someone else? or you did anything else with it. are there any certain differences between that site you talk about and the others on your server? or your server itself got crazy and just wanted to annoy you. but that is it probably not. All my sites are hosted on the same domain, on the same server, under the same account. I created the CCSF site the same way I created all the others, in the same format and using the same codes I've used on various other sites. If there is a difference, I can't think of what it could be. |

then I don't know. you could... you could... hmm, yes, what could you do...? ah! new idea! maybe your software-offer-guys (sorry, sometimes difficult to find the right words in english as german teeny ^^) changed the service package. so are all your other sites have those smiley not, because those sites got made before that change was there. maybe they changed the service just before you made the new website. it is not such an important change, so they did not contact you and all their other customers. is that an useful idea? Ah, now that would be a very logical explanation. Smart! I'll have to keep an eye out next time I go to create a site, and see if it pops in those smileys automatically. Because that makes a lot of sense. |
