Purely from a lurker's point of view, this seemed inevitable to me really, and comes as no surprise. |

Same. I'm not surprised by this move.
I am, nevertheless, severely disappointed.
You have to be honest with yourself when you are writing. If that leads to somewhere unexpected then perhaps you really needed to go there.

I've never joined the forum, but it hurts all the same. Wow. o_o
It's like... the center of the Creatures Community has been destroyed, left to fester in a desolated wasteland of a shattering community. D:

I don't think this was your doing, Leanne (in fact, I thought the spam had noticeably decreased over the last few weeks). If I had to guess, the final straw on the camel's back was probably the discussion of torrents that cropped up recently (although if that's the case, there were other ways to handle that, IMHO).
More likely, though, is that Lisa (or whoever closed the forums) realized that no one was actually moderating them and decided it was safer to just take them down until they could fix it; if they could fix it.

There's been so much pointless bickering in the last month or two I don't even care any more. Milita moderation will only make matters worse, I can feel it. I'm not touching it with a ten foot pole for a while after it comes back, if it comes back.

I've never even been to the Gameware forums and that is clearly an indication that this place is way better.
Yes, I'm the forum ... Any questions?

I have a feeling it will be back.

Me: *logs on* EH! THAT OL' GAMEWARE FORUM'S FINALLY BACK! *dentures fall to ground* I have to change my diaper now.
Okay, I just couldn't resist.
Or could I?

@prime: I know, ain't it great? Except not really.
Anyway, I'm curious -- can the forum still be read, ie. via direct links to posts and forumids? Would be kind of an unclassy move if the database was closed completely. |

I just tested that theory and got nowhere, unfortunately. I can't access any individual threads whose URLs I had stored in my history/bookmarks.
I'm still logged into the forums, oddly enough....

Well, there was the Shee thread; I had that URL saved because there were a lot of interesting ideas being thrown around there and I'm a sucker for speculation.
Granted, it had been pretty silent for the past couple of years....

^^ angel, there was some development crap up there that isn't available elsewhere, and for that matter some developed crap. iirc there were some cv->c3ds conversions on the forum that no one had the foresight to mirror, among other things. |

I like lived on that forum for a long time! I had sprites up on there that I was allowing people to use if they provided their creations to the public for free as well o.o;
At least I found this one...i'm not overly active in the community but it wasn't a huge shock nor surprise that the forum went down; I need creatures forums to lurk on tho! |

I can't believe its still closed... that is soo frustrating! I'd rather they stopped posting and left it open to search at least as there are a lot of help topics there that people won't look for now!

Maybe someone could volunteer to become a moderator. I could give it a shot. |

It's been done, and gameware has made it very clear they want nothing to do with community moderation, if I recall. |

Yes - Lisa refused to let community members moderate as it would imply favouritism and could cause rifts.

I'm more annoyed the forum is down than sad. They took away a lot of information that rightly belonged to the community - if it had to close, they could of at least left archives as read only.

I didn't know the GW forums were moderated at all. They seemed pretty wild whenever I visited.
I'm sure many people have already tried this, but you may be able to access some old threads HERE.
Just a thought...

I think it's kinda selfish they closed it anyway without sending emails or messages to the members beforehand. There's a ton of stuff on that forum that's inaccessable whilst the forums are closed. Darn Gameware. |
