Hi! You guys may be interested in knowing a little bit about what's been going on with openc2e recently:

* C3/DS creatures now have brains! They cannot move yet but their brains are mostly functional.
* C3 and DS in particular now run very, very well. C1, C2, CV, and CA all run as well, though their function is somewhat more limited.
* The Windows build (still not available to public yet, sorry) works well and can auto-detect what games you have installed and create shortcuts for it.

If you want to see what various things currently look like in openc2e, be sure to check out the screenshots page on the website. Or, just check the website in general for up-to-date information on openc2e's capabilities. More info coming soon!

Wow, um, thread necromancy. But yeah, this is still fairly up to date. When fuzzie moved to the Netherlands development stalled a little bit. :/

Do C1 and C2 cobs work in openc2e?

Malkin: Partially. C1 and C2 have been slightly lower in priority lately, so they're a bit buggier than C3/DS. But many things do work, at least somewhat. :)

now that would be a plus. (C1/2 cobs working, I mean).
Hey, what's happening with breed handling? Are we still stuck with the same number of slots? Just had a silly though - it's a pity the games couldn't handle sub-folders for breeds. One per breed. I know the game wasn't coded for it but it sure as hell would have made the issues with everyone overwriting each other a thing of the past. have, say, a certain number of characters sub-folder name limit. *shrugs* sorry, it just hit me. Would be a complete pain in the arse to modify the existing games to to it - more use only for someone writing a whole new, not-so-backwards-compatible game

I mean, C1 and C2 run, just not completely. See the website in my sig and look at the screenshots, there's a couple of C1 and C2 there. :)

Uh... what exactly is OpenC2e? I mean, I've looked at the website, but I still don't know what it is. Is it an addon? A combination of all the games? A new version of all creatures games?

Do not upset the ugly worm, lest it be a dragon in disguise. (>oo)>

It's none of those! :) It's a game engine - the essential software that a game needs to be able to run. It tells the game how to deal with sounds, graphics, movement and lotsa other stuff.

With a game engine, you can create whole new games altogether or do stuff through programming to an original game that you wouldn't be able to do with CAOS.

Creatures basically is made up of two parts: The engine, and the content. The engine is a software program that uses the content (sound files, agents, CAOS scripts, genetics files, and all that stuff) to display the game and let you interact with it. Openc2e is the engine for a new Creatures-like game made by a new community.
