Scad Toxic Metaroom
Gumbo

Gumbo
United States

  2/23/2010

Okay, one thing I have noticed lately is that I know of literately ONE toxic metaroom. That doesnt work with c3. Therefore, I propose a new, C3-compatible toxic metaroom, which would be a large waste product from the ship, following the ship around. I've drawn up the room and will probably get acess to a scanner soon, but let me describe my ideas now:
Name for the project: "Scad", cross between scat and scab, neither of which sound apealing
Ecology: A mushy fruit tree, a large single-celled immortal bacteria, a type of beetle, a hanging plant, a large fungus, a bush, and bats, all of which produce detritus or other toxic things, the plants produce rotten plants and toxic seeds/fruits, the beetle dies and provide a body, the bats provide guano.
(more details)
hanging plant:seed falls on ground, grows into a pod which builds up rotting gases from the floor and then shoots another seed upwards to the ceiling. this seed grows into an olive-green clump of material looking like soggy grass. this material gets bigger, grows five more red groundseed, then falls to the ground as detritus
bush: seed falls on ground, grows into a shoot, then into a spiky bush. bush grows five rotten fruits, which, if uneaten, will produce 3 seeds each, and if eaten, will produce one seeed.
fungus: rolling spore falls on ground, rolls around for a bit, the grows into an orange fungus.this fungus grows to about the height of an adolescent norn, then produces four spores and dies, producing a grey-orange lump that is edible for toxic norns
beetle: egg is laid, hatches into maggot. this maggot is edible and produces antigens and histamines(if those are the toxic ones :P). when the maggot is big enough, it burrows in to the ground and forms a cocoon, which then hatches into an edible beetle. the younger beetle injects bacteria, while the older and bigger one is packed with toxins.
super-macrobacteria: just oozes across the ground floor, eating a bit of detritus and leaving little green packets which are owrse then the original detritus. this little guy should be the mascot of the project :D :P
Room structure: Two levels with one lift between them, a ground level and a platform level. There will be stalagtites at the top and a cave for the bats to live in. The ground will be icky green, and have bones which will occasionally rise to the surface. There will be some type of orifice in he wall whch detritus occasionally spouts from.

By the way, i have no caos experience besides tinting, friction, and wieght, but am trying to learn to code at least a little for this project. Pleas post any and all ideas you have, and spriters, coders, everyone is needed :)

(ps: sorry if i sound a little bossy and exact, but i do think this is a good idea and should be paid attention to)
:)

Excellent idea! :D It might be worthwhile making a study of the Toxic Norn's genome beforehand so that the room will meet their needs?

Would it be like some kind of caner on the ship? I propose making parallel doors.

The biggest problem I had while working on the Garbage Dump was knowing how Toxic Norns actually work. I'd really like someone to make a little chart of what Toxic Norns need to survive, and what kills them.

And new metarooms are always awesome.

This is a very good idea! But since you can only buy toxic norns from the creatures mall someone will have had to have bought them to analyse their genome :\

Why not just download one or have one sent to you via the Warp? The genome itself can be transferred easily.

AquaShee's right--in fact I think the genome is available for download on TreeSprite's web site. It's only the breed sprites and object pack that aren't available unless you bought them.

In the worst case simply download a Toxic Norn from one of all the adoption pages...

Ok! I'm looking at the genome now!

According to what I'm seeing, toxic norns have initial concentrations of all the antigens, which are converted into many good chemicals, one being starch! Antibodies cause organ damage. Poisons that are good for toxic norns include carbon monoxide, ATP decoupler, cyanide, geddonase, and glycotoxin!

So from this data the metaroom should contain air which is full of bacteria and many poisonous plants! :)

I can't really help with the actual metaroom but could I use the genome to help make recommendations on what objects will be in it...ect?

Here in the US there are black and yellow millipedes called "almond scented millipedes" because they exude enough cyanide that you can actually smell it if you get too close to one. I can see a curled-up dead millipede making a tasty snack.

So basically, anything that contains antibodies is harmful to Toxic Norns? That means they can't live in the Meso, how sad. :(

They can, AS. The Toxic Norns I have came with a second file called "toxicreplacement.agents". It contains scripts to make all the stuff like Tubas, Carrots or Lemons in the Meso to absolutely deadly poison-packages.

The millipede idea is good though :)

Ah yes, I remember an agent that did that. :) I'd rather have an agent that just removes the medicinal properties from the foods though, so Toxics and non-toxics can share the Meso.

i love the millipede idea too, and yeah, rainbow, it would either be a waste product, like a kidney stone, or a cancer.

By the way, what exactly would be needed to create this metaroom?

Like sprite artists, or CAOSers?

Both, I'm guessing!
It's a sad fact that a lot of really good ideas turn up in the heads of people who can't realize them themselves because they don't have the time, skills or resources.

I'd be happy to do some coding (I have plenty of experience with Toxic Metarooms), but I want to be really sure the project won't fizzle.
That means a decent metaroom background, once you have that you're halfway there.

How many toxic breeds are even out there?

Just a few. In terms of genetic breeds, I know of:

Garbage Banshee Grendels
Poison Norns
Sewage Banshee Grendels

What would the room itself look like, anyway? I kind of like Wiimeiser's idea of it being a cancer-type body. It would also be nice to have a room that matches the look of the breed.

Oops, sorry Papri! I remember now.

I think it would be interesting if it were a cross between a cancer-type body and some kind of swamp. Like, it looks fleshy but with strange orange trees and gobs of puke-colored goop. That could explain the Toxic Norns' coloration. (Maybe it's like the Toxic Norn world equivalent of a starship? Ha!)

Make sure you put lots of garbage, maybe even a pack of garbage agents to come with it.

You could put in poisonous snakes and spiders, when pushed they could inject a kind if poison.

In C3 are enough free spaces, we just have to pick one.
In DS is that question a bit harder... Maybe a mobile entrance as Ghosthande made for KT?

Melodie's idea also is not bad. There could be critters of the same kind, but depending on their color they inject a different poison.
Or you make food that is similar to Addicting Suicide Juice (will be published when Norngirl appears again). It injects creatures really a completely random poison when they eat/drink it. This is called in the Injection Script of the bottle self:
loop
setv ov01 rand 66 89
untl ov01 <> 76 and ov01 <> 77

Later in the script when the bottle gets eaten you call something like this:
targ from
stim writ targ 26 1
chem mv01 0.7
With only slight changes you can make this ready for a critter. :D

Put the entrance in the air lock, as a second garbage disposal option that keeps your toxic norns healthy.

Yes! The airlock would also offer a good way to keep bacteria from infiltrating the rest of the ship. Just like... you know... an airlock.

I've taken a peek at the genome. Forgot I downloaded the CFE version a while back, I already had it on hand. Like Scoota94 said, Carbon Monoxide, ATP Decoupler, Cyanide, Geddonase, Glycotoxin and the Antigens are all good for them.

They instinctively seek out fruit or detritus when hungry for starch; seeds, food or detritus when hungry for fat; and food or detritus when hungry for protein.

As far as stimuli are concerned,
Eaten Alcohol reduces H4F and H4P and increases Fat and Protein.
Eaten Animal reduces H4F and H4P and increases Antigen 2 and Antigen 5.
Eaten Detritus reduces H4F and H4P and increases Protein and Starch.
Eaten Food reduces H4F and H4P and increases Antigen 2 and Antigen 3.
Eaten Fruit reduces H4P and H4C and increases Antigen 5 and Antigen 7.
Eaten Plant reduces H4C and H4F and increases Antigen 0 and Antigen 4.

It looks like the regular foods are actually beneficial so long as they don't contain any of the medicinal chemicals (like most of the DS foods do).

So normal food's neutral to them? That's good to know, at least.
Also, we could make new toxic chemicals in those two spaces, couldn't we? Not really for creatures, but like a CA like reaction in the environment? Or just for neutral effect?

I'm not sure what you mean... chemicals can't be distributed through a place the way CA's can, and don't exist in any quantity in anything other than a Creature's body.
