Creatures rerelease via Steam? | |

Is it just me, or would the Creatures series benefit immensely from a relaunch via Steam? Gameware would make a spare buck or two off the IP without really having to do anything to it, and it would be very easy to get a hold of the game (and therefore check market interest -- especially what with the spore feeding frenzy). Win-win.
What do you think? Am I missing some detail? Fill me in here, I can't really see why it hasn't happened already. |

Don't you have to log-in to Steam in order to play their games, though? I don't know how it is with true offline games (ie. that don't have online capability), but every time I go to launch Portal I have to wait through Steam logging itself in, too... even though I never go online with Portal.

Yes, and personally, this is my primary beef with Steam. It's gotten much better with broadband internet being relatively ubiquitous in population centers, but I still don't like it in principle. You can play games offline, but you still need the initial connection for Valve's games/other utterly steam-reliant games. (You don't know how...? It's file -> go offline)
I wouldn't have a problem with it if it was just an optional functionality where you can put in a serial and have the option of downloading/updating from steam -- but well, it was originally conceived as an anti-piracy measure, and Steam games are still an utter PITA to pirate.
Regardless, there's a large audience of people who have it whether they like the concept or not. It seems like it would be an advantageous release. |

But would Gameware really want to have their property dependant on someone else's system, to have their customers forced to go through some other company all the time? I know I wouldn't do it.

No. It's an alternative, since, you know, the only way to get as is is waiting a couple of weeks through Amazon. And that's if you know about it in the first place. |

or finding a copy on ebay :B
I APPROVE OF THIS IDEA
although i don't have steam and i can play portal and audiosurf.
soo.... *shrugs*
i think it's because my C:/ drive died before, taking steam with it, but leaving portal fully intact.

It's set up weird like that. It wouldn't be my ideal content distribution system, but it seems to be the one that's taken off the most... |
