I just want to say that it'll be a happy day when Openc2e can support gameplay and I'll have a chance to play C1 and C2 again! I took the time to check it out today and I think what's been done so far is awesome.
My new laptop is great for uni work and the internet, but being Vista it is totally pants where playing Creatures is concerned. I did know this already when I went out to buy it, but I just thought to myself "Nah, I haven't played Creatures for ages, it won't bother me." Pfft, wrong. I've somehow managed to get CIE C3 working on it, but it isn't the same.
I really wish I hadn't spilt a cup of tea over my old beloved XP laptop now. It wasn't the brightest thing to do. |

You know, over here on the other side of the pond, my linguistic mind expects 'totally pants' to be some kind of analogue to 'kicking rad'.
Also: Find somebody's crappy ancient desktop and install on that? Then you get the entire C1/C2 slug experience. Unless you're in a dorm and can't tote a desktop around. |

What does "kicking rad" mean?
There's Dad's ancient Windows 98, but there's something up with the monitor, or a lead somewhere - it likes to flash different colours of the rainbow = Psychedelic Norns/Albia? |

been a while since I ran windows 98 -- C2 wants you to be in high color mode (not true color), I think C1 doesn't care
it's in display settings |

If you have the cd to install windows 98 You can always try virtual pc but Virtual pc probably wont be the best idea.....

Uhh... don't do this. If you have to virtualize something, VMWare is free now, among other handlers. |

Virtual Pc is also free but it has alot of problems and thats the reason I said its not the best idea. but there is an update for it that speeds it up tons!

Wait...C1 works on Vista. I play it all the time. It's only C2 that doesn't work.
I have an XP laptop, but I love my desktop so much I rarely use it. |

Yup, it works on my computer at least(it's an HP, if that makes any difference). I have it open in the background right now. It may depend upon computer settings, and if you've downloaded Windows updates or not.
I definitely recommend buying the Albian Years version...I've never had any earlier versions, so I have no idea if they would even work on Vista. |

I was wondering something. Would OpenC2e prevent those nasty C2 crashes and glitches? >_> Probably not, but a hand can dream can't they.

I hope (not having consulted the openc2e crowd recently) that running C2 on openc2e will remove those bugs that were due to the C2 engine being held together with sticky tape (which may be the crashes. Don't quote me on this, I am not a computer expert.). C2 running on openc2e will probably not fix most of the physics glitches. Also, I've found an interesting page on the Lifandi wiki about testing C2 and the currentish (July) bugs.
