Are My Norns just Stupid?

How long do you lot usually leave them to their own devices?

I find by the time my norns reach adulthood, unless I've taken a very "Hand" on approach, they've regressed so far mentally that I don't know what to do with them. They're sharp in childhood, and almost all pass their IQ test within seconds of becoming children, but then it's downhill from there.

It was cute the first time one thought they could eat a door, then she sat there for nearly and hour... Then she died. A third of them get this way. Another half spend their entire lives going up and down on an elevator, and their children, born only inches away, immediately pick up the habit.

All three of my wolfing runs ended with a single 4th generation norn. Well, one had an immortal 2nd gen, who I've exported. I was hoping I could just let them go while I was sleeping, or at work, and they'd have a mutation or two when I checked back. Or have migrated to another area (instead they just go sociopathic when they get crowded).

Is this pretty much standard? Is eight hours too long to leave them? Six?

It may depend on how many Norns you have. If I have 10-15 in the same place, they seem to go through a... transformation... they get stupider and spend all of their time using elevators (I believe the attention to elevators instinctive when they get crowded) and beating on each other. Once I bump the number down to 5-7 they revert to normal Norn behavior and start eating food again.

It might also depend on what Norns you have. Some Norns are smarter than others; for example, Akami Canny Norns are much smarter than basic C2 Norns.

Sometimes adding more intelligent creatures to the gene pool is a good idea.

Another way of reducing the crowded behaviour would be to add a few Air Purifiers to your metarooms. You could also try making your adults redo the IQ test? Norns are capable of learning things, but they are also capable of forgetting...

I downloaded the CFE norns, and taught my first two well this time, and things look like they might go much better now. Art and Ary are now adults and haven't regressed into idiots. In fact, they're educating the kids. Crowdedness is becoming a factor.

I dowloaded that air purifier, and it sounds good. Thank you! But the documentation is poor and it isn't just working like all the other agents I've used (well, most others, I suppose). I've extracted the .agents file to my docking station/my agents folder and... Where is it? Not on the agent injector list. Any help?

Sometimes you need to swap lists between downloading agents in order for them to show up in the list - it should show up as "Air Purifier (DS)". Try checking your "who's online" and then checking back in your agents list. The "No slapping norns" agent is also good, as is a timer and a vocabuliser.
