ReSlot - Automated slot renaming tool

Inspired by a recent bibble by Isis, I've written a batch file that automates the process of renaming sprite & body data files to a new breed slot. You can use this to reassign the slots of conflicting breeds, allowing them both to exist harmoniously in your game.

This should work for all Creatures games where the sprites and body data files follow the 4-digit filename schema.

Move it into the folder where the sprites or body data files are, and run it! The rest speaks for itself.

IMPORTANT!
You still need to edit the "appearance" genes of the breed to use the new slot letter, otherwise they'll still think they need the old one! Sadly this can't be automated, but it's not hard. Use the Genetics Kit or whatever other gene-editing program you prefer. Editing the breed itself should be self-explanatory, but for existing individual creatures, you will also need to edit their personal .gen files located in your My Documents 'Genetics' folder.

Their .gen file is named after their unique moniker, which is a 4-digit ID such as "3XPV" or "0KQP". You should be able to find this in one of the in-game Kits, probably the Owner's Kit or Science Kit. But if you're lost, you can temporarily export the creature and inspect it in notepad. The moniker is located towards the beginning of the file and should be fairly easily spotted. Once you find the moniker, open up the corresponding .gen file in your Genetics editor and change the "appearance" genes.

---

Hope some find it useful, I know I've personally needed something like this occasionally and it sure beats manually renaming all those files!

Hooray!

Now I can use some breeds that otherwise I could not. [nsmile]

I never understood how to reassign them in the first place, but then again, I never looked nor did I try. xP

EDIT: I feel like, since it is done, maybe you could post it as a Resource? Easier to find for random peoples who visit CC, I'd imagine.

Not positive though. :D

Probably a good idea, but I think I will wait for some feedback on it- I want to make sure I've covered all the important stuff, and that it's not confusing or problematic. I've just edited in an important section that I missed initially!

This is pretty awesome, chasing after all those files is a pain. Could you possibly try and add a breed uninstall function as well?

Do you mean something like scanning for files belonging to a particular slot, and delete them?

Yes, or exporting them to folders outside the game folders (There technically already is one, but I find it to not work.)

Might be late to this but I finaly got to try it out and I can say it is a life saviour!

I second what Missmysterics said too :
Having a tool like this, but let you toss it in a folder of choice and it remove the ATT& S/C16 files would be great!

As well even a tool version who can copy said att and images of a breed inside the creatures3/docking station folders into a outside folder (easy backup of some if files if it get corruped, like the c1 grendels)
I guess that is what Missmysterics meant?

Those tools would be a must have!
But for now - it's great this one exist,Well done,Gimmecat!
