Nickname Origins

Well, the idea is pretty simple! Your nicknames probably are rather different from your real names (except for some obvious examples ;D) and sometimes they come from rather odd origins.
So, this is the topic! How did your nickname come to be what it is now? Tell us your stories!

Let me make the beginning. When I was young, I got my first PC made from scrap pieces my parents (especially dad) had left. It was way too slow, even for that time. It stood at a pathetic 300MHz Processor and... IDK, maybe 128 MB RAM? Even modern smartphones have way more XD
Anyways. My PC was barely able to run any games at all, yet I still did not give up to have fun with it.
My solution was The Gimp, the standard graphics tool on Linux (you did not really think that pathetic machine would run on windows? :P).
I used to experiment a lot with Gimp. I started to learn the magic of Filters and Scripts.

BUT! For Filters and Scripts to work, there needed to be a base image in the first place. As opposed to some other graphical scripts, they needed some base image to work with. My solution was simple! Gimp included some random brush of a bell pepper! Just paint some bell peppers here and there. After a while I started to give it simplistic googly eyes, with big white brush dots and smaller black brush dots.

That was the moment Papriko was born. "Paprika" is german for "bell pepper" and I heard "Riko" is a male name. It is not mine, but I heard it is. Paprika. Riko. Papriko!

Back in the days I even used the various default textures of Gimp to create something like an entire family tree of Paprikos evolving from each other, many of them based on puns, such as Elec and Inviser, Disguy, Rocky 1, 2 and 3, Bricky and many many others...

When I registered online the first time (oddly enough it was on this very webpage) I desperately needed a nickname. And I thought "hey, why not Pap?" I was never creative anyways, yet Papriko was one of the few art forms I ever did.
So I assumed the name of the flagship of my silly, childish art.

Anyways, how did you gain your nickname?

"Calliope" is from a Mega Man fancharacter that I made, though I rarely use for anything related to the MM series anymore. I named her that because not only is a Calliope an instrument, thus fitting the musical name theme most important characters from the series use, but it is also the name of one of the Nine Muses from Greek Mythology.

"812" comes from my first online account, "Ally812", which I made on Club Penguin. From then on, nearly all my account names have ended in "812".

As for the nicknames I use elsewhere, I used to use "SkyraTwilight812" for everything and still have a few accounts in places under that username, and it came fromm two of my early Kirby fancharacters, Skyra and Twilight. I don't use them anymore, though, and I don't register anything new under that name either.

My only other nickname is "tesnivy", which is my Minecraft account name, and stands in for my first name on Google+ and anything connected. It's pretty standard, just a combination of "Tepig" and "Snivy" from Pokemon, which I was obsessed with when I first bought Minecraft.

Lolitiabear came from a combination some of my favorite things. Lolita Fashion (Japanese Victorian based dresses, look it up) and bears. upon research i learned that the word 'Lolita' is also a term to describe a very sexual girl, So i had to watch what i say and type. and from there on, i added another i to the name and there you go. Also, lolitiabear is a variant of my main nick name of lolitagoat/lolitiagoat.

My username here is one I use only for Creatures related websites.
When I was a little kid playing Creatures 3, I was always trying to breed my Norns in a way so that I could get my "favorite Norn".
Since Creatures 3 has only 3 breeds to start with and I was too young to understand how to get any other breeds, I loved to make the "TigerCivet" Norn (at least that's what I called it).
It's just a female Civet Norn with a Bengal Body (just like my profile picture), but too me it looked like a tiger body. [nlaugh]
I'm pretty sure I've already told this tale before but I guess I love telling it over and over again. [nblush]

Back when I went on Neopets and Gaia Online, I used amy1993 or something with a bunch of numbers in it. I got tired of that after a few years and wanted to change my username on Gaia to Tikara. That was taken, so I added kitty to it and I have used this username for a while now. I have one or two more that I use elsewhere, but KittyTikara is still my main one.

I also went through a phase where I used old Robot Wars/BattleBots names as usernames. GBH and Tazbot were my two favorites, for whatever reason.

My screenname on here is after my favourite OC, who was named Layla because at the time I created her, I was listening to "Layla" by Eric Clapton. xP

I've never been that great at naming things, so Spykkie is just the feminine version of the name of one of my original characters I used for RP waaayyy back.

It just kind of sticked, for some reason. :P

Actually, mine is just my first initial and my last name. Pretty boring, I know.

"Grendel Man" was a name I made up while attempting to get up into MySpace, shortly after having home internet access for the first time. I had one of those virtual pet things and needed something to put into "This pet adopted by " space since I was reluctant to use my real name. "Grendel Man" was the first name I thought up since I'm a dude who (really) likes grendels. MySpace failed to hold my interest for long, but the name stuck.

I've never been good with usernames, I always struggle to find something that I actually can identify with. Then, when I do, it's always taken. I've settled on this one, mostly because it was the first one I tried to use that was never taken.

It stands for my love of sci-fi themes, animals, and my habits of lurking (like a rat) and never posting-which amusingly enough changed completely as soon as I started using this username, which is when I joined Creaturetopia. Now I never shut up.
Also it's important that it looks pretty with my synesthesia, sort of light blue and yellow, like a beach in summer.

The vague concept I had in mind was of a ship's rat, you know, the ugly black ones which lived in old pirate galleons, except lurking in the corners of the Enterprise, or some such spaceship. Hence why it's not "space rat", which would rather put me in mind of mickey mouse with a bubble helmet.

I do realize it doesn't come across very well, and it's a bit confusing, especially on twitch where I've been called, whether humorously or mistakenly, SpaceShitRat, SpacePirate, SpaceshipPrat, and Communist ("because SSR sounds like USSR" ). It's endlessly amusing.

I really would like to come up with a new moniker to do some streaming and Youtube-ing with, but it's probably going to be worse :P

I've used this screenname forever, it has a few different meanings kind of jumbled together which led me to picking it, but a big part of it was an obsession I had at the time with Resident Evil III... It had an impressive zombie called 'Nemesis' in it, who was huge, very fast, and had a trenchcoat and a bazooka (and really should have had a set of badass shades)... He also had a habit of unexpectedly smashing through walls like the Kool-Aid man.

I toyed around with Nemesis and 'EvilNemesis', and variants on that, but it was always taken, so I thought of evol, which would sound similar, but was like 'evolved', I love science and Nemesis had an evolved form, but 'evol' was also 'love' spelled backwards, so I decided: evolnemesis = The nemesis of anti-love. I fight against that which seeks to destroy love.

Doringo came from the username I used in Docking station back when the warp was a thing. Originally it wasn't *my* username as the whole idea was made on the spot by a relative of mine, who doesn't really have any interest in creatures anymore.

But for more interesting origins which were actually my idea, I may be known as DoringoRock or TheRockofDoringo on other sites where the name Doringo is taken, The association with Doringo and Rock came from CCchat where I accidentally would close the tab in firefox and when I came back the name Doringo would still be occupied so I would name myself Doringok (which I pronounced as Dough-ring-ock) until my previous self would disconnect so I could reoccupy the name "Doringo".

I think it was back in the 90's, we had internet at home finally. My brother had discovered the game of creatures that entertained him for a day or two and reeled me in completely to a full-on addiction. I found creatures2 and then all of the creatures websites online during my hour of internet-fun per day we were allowed (it cost like a billion back in the day (not really, but you know ;) )).

I ventured on the Jungle Drum and scrolled through the forums and I had this urge to join the forums and talk to everyone with my horrible english (I had just started learning it). But to register you needed a name and during one of the internet-safety-classes in school they told us to never use our real life names online unless we knew the person in real life. I wanted something simple I could remember, but was still cool and creatures-related.

My own name I could remember, my initials in rl is j c w. So I dropped the last name and took JC as a first name and then since norns were my favourite out of the three species in creatures I took that as a last name, so it was JC Norn, of course spaces wasn't allowed so it was JCNorn. And ever since then it has stuck with me. Everywhere. If you see a jcnorn, jesseynorn or jayceenorn (some places complain my name is too short :P) anywhere, it's probably me. :)
