I received a "FitBit" for Christmas but I'm not very familiar with fitness trackers. Anyone else use a fitness tracker of any kind? What are the benefits?

I do not use them myself, but I guess the idea is that it is on one hand a constant reminder to make you feel guilty, so you are not always like "mwa, I go training next weekend, I'm not in the mood today", but that it also has some kind of rewarding function, so you see how much you did do recently when you actually do your training.

My older brother and mother have a kind of fitbit, and they're enthusiastic about them - I found some tutorials on them here from someone who's been using theirs for over two years. The functionality of theirs is that it automatically exports data to their phone apps, sets number of steps goals for them (which they can tweak), and beeps at them to stand up when they've been sitting down for too long.

I played on a wii-fit once, but it wasn't a very enjoyable experience due to it being brutally hard to control at most times. |

The key to any fitness tracker is setting up a habit. It won't help you if you aren't consistent, and if you don't see any results, you'll probably stop using it all together.
I use a FitBit and highly recommend using the app with your smart phone so you can add food/water on the go instead of having to remember to enter it hours later when you get home.
Add lots of friends to your FitBit profile. It makes using it more fun, and adds a bit of social pressure/accountability.
I lost over 30 pounds with my FitBit, love this silly green wrist band. |

I switched to Apple watch recently from FitBit. It tries to do all the same things but I feel like it doesn't do them quite as well. And it has no sleep tracker.
