Roll20 & Other Tabletop Gaming

Roll20 is a great new-ish site for those who want to play tabletop across the Internet. While some people have used forums, IRC, skype, and other things to play tabletop games, like D&D, Shadowrun, Pathfinder, this site not only provides free capabilities to game onlines, but has forums, looking for group sections, and many other things to truly enhance your experience.

A custom mapping bit, with tokens to represent monsters or characters, and even tutorials to help users, GMing on Roll20 is made easy for the user.

I signed up in May, and finally got around to looking for a campaign, and learned of Dungeon World, a game focused on a wide open feel, where battles and events, instead of being turn based and clinical, are free flowing, nearly real time, chaotic and cinematic. A much looser style of play so to speak. It has a lot of user made content, whether monsters, or playbooks (class guides).

I joined a campaign as a Kobold Fortune Teller, a race not listed in the playbook, but if you work with your gm, you can use other races, and create new bonuses. Disgruntled that a race in D&D is more suited to a different class because of 'preferred' bits? You can choose your class, then your race, where the race modifies the class. Playing a Ranger? If you make it a human ranger, when camping in a city, you don't need to consume rations!
Some people make Monster Playbooks, which in my opinion, can oversimplify a potential race. Such as Ogre. If you play from an Ogre Playbook, it's technically your race, and class. You could work with your GM so that you can play an Ogre that is classed as a Fighter.
Monsters are also easily able to be tailored to a campaign, or world. Hell, the way I wrote Kobolds, with my GM's approval, don't really look much like classical D&D Kobolds.

Anyhow, this is a topic to discuss tabletop roleplaying, Roll20, and all that razmataz.

Got a story from a campaign? Post it here. Got a fun trick to share? Same.

Thanks for pointing this out! I am putting it on my whiteboard as a place to port CCARPS to - it looks like a fun way to play when one can't get their game group together.

I was a GM last time I played, and actually did pretty well! Usually my campaigns are filled with long pauses while I scramble desperately for an answer to what the players said, but this time my story actually had pace!
We were playing a rather old game, Hawkmoon by Chaosium.

What is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything?
