Last year I'd had an idea for a community project similar to the the Community Scribble project, but I'd never got around to posting it in time for the previous CCSF.
The idea is a swamp themed metaroom that everyone can send in photos that could be used for making the background. I felt that using photos would include & encourage more people to participate since those people who feel like they are bad at drawings would have a way to help out. If enough photos are sent in, it might be possible to set up something similar to the biodome's changeable backgrounds.
Here's the current rough sketch of the background.
(full view here)
It is still open for modification & change currently, so it can be modified to fit the photos if something really amazing is sent in.
You can send in photos of places besides swamps.
Ruins, rubble, forests, riverbanks, waterfalls, caves, grasslands, grassy fields, rocks, there are lots of possibilities for photos that can be blended together to make sections of swampy backgrounds. After all, swamps occur in all sorts of different areas, some might be in forests, some might be on the edge of fields, a swamp might drain down into a cave system or make it hard to tell where the edge of a lake is.
You never know what you might find in a swamp, interestingly twisted trees, unusual rocks, old ruins, bits of old pottery or carvings, giant skeletons like the ones found in the tar pits.
See, there are many possibilities for pictures that can be taken & sent in even if you don't live near a swamp. Even pictures of nicely decorated terrariums & aquariums could be useful.
So, start collecting those pictures, the CCSF is edging closer faster than you think.
Where the pictures are to be sent, I'll have up later this week. |

I'll take a few photos today of the brick wall we have at home, our reeds, see if family have photos from florida that could be useable, and then start checking about wetlands down in Yuma

I believe I have tons of pictures of natural-looking aquarium decorations that fits the bill. I was thinking of using them for the same purpose but I don't mind sharing!

This is a lovely idea! I live slap bang in the middle of the countryside, so I'm sure I can rustle up some photos of grassy fields and wooded areas. There also happens to be a pile of rubble down the lane from my house, which may help towards the making of a rocky background; it doesn't have much use elsewhere!
Is there a deadline for our contributions? |

No deadline for pictures at the moment, since I don't know exactly when the CCSF is going to be. So just send them as you get them. I'm also thinking that even after the CCSF is over, we could keep accepting pictures, which could be used to make add-on packs of alternate backgrounds for the various rooms in there, because I really like the idea of having the backgrounds be changeable like the bottom half of the Biodome.
If you have the images saved online, feel free to share the link in this topic. I think that would give other people a chance to look at them & try to find areas that would blend nicely with the current pictures, or get inspiration for where to find their own places to take pictures of. If you really want to keep your pictures a surprise until the background is released, then just send me a PM & I'll give you my e-mail to send them to.

I know all you're requesting at the moment is photographs, but I would like to mention that I could help with making sprites for agents or something.

How do I send in pictures? They're not on the internet, and I can't find how to do it.

Do you have a way to get your pictures on to the computer? Are they pictures on a phone or digital camera, or are they the old fashioned hard copy? |

If they're on a phone, you could use a dropbox, otherwise, you could use a scanner
