Chapter 1: The Ark Arrives at Sphericus
The first thing that Ersdeld noticed as he slowly woke was a metallic taste on his tongue. For a few minutes he wondered where he was, before he sat up and opened his eyes. He was lying on a couch, amidst long lines of similar couches, and on each lay a shee slowly awakening. Suddenly everything came back to him. He was on the Ark, which had been taking all the shee to Sphericus. They had gone into suspended animation, so now they must be here! Excited, Ersdeld leapt up and hurried to the observatory.
Yes, he could see the planet growing steadily closer. Ersdeld switched on the high magnification which would let him see the surface. He looked into the screen and then drew back in shock. He was looking at a huge metropolis, towering buildings reaching up like grey fingers into the sky. Sphericus was inhabited! Ersdeld zoomed in closer. He peered at some strange writing on huge boards, and then looked at a creature moving along. Ersdeld's scientific interests were aroused. He thought 'I must have a representative of that species!'
He switched on a teleport, locked it onto the creature, and pulled it up onto the ship. As soon as he approached the creature screamed at him in an incomprehensible language. Ersdeld had a machine inject the creature with a sedative, so that it slumped to the ground, unconscious. He then fetched some other shee. They looked curiously at the creature, and put it into their mental analyser.
Some time later they had made a complete mental picture of the creature, and could speak its language. It appeared that they called the planet Sphericus, Earth.

Hi, I hope I won't disturb this thread by posting but I like the theory that Sphericus could be inhabited (be it by humans or not), it makes it more interesting. :-) So, I hope to read more soon!

Reminds me of Lilo & Stitch, when an alien bridge bunny called the planet "Iyarth". This sounds like a fun story.
I think some of the word choice could be improved. For example:
He switched on a teleport, locked it onto the creature, and beamed it up onto the ship.
"pulled up" sounds like the ship was equipped with a tractor beam instead of a teleporter. |

Yes, I suppose. It is only a first draft.

Whenever I'm stuck on how to continue (or end) something, I just keep writing. Eventually something pops up that offers a perfectly believable and logical development. It's less like writing and more like haphazardly stitching random body parts together and running electricity through them, but it gets the job done and brings forth life. |

That's how brainstorming works in a group project, so it makes sense to me... besides I love Frankenstein (pronounced FRONK-EN-STEEN) monsters.
