[Metaroom] Treehuggers' treehouses

Hello everyone!

I've tried making my own metarooms in the past, they were very small ones and only worked on my game. Now that I have time to waste, I've decided to give it another try and was encouraged to make some kind of treehouse for treehugger norns.

I want to keep some sort of online journal to keep track of my own progress and make sure I don't give up too early this time, which is why I'm posting here.

I'm only starting to work on it, of course. I've found some tutorials and am now working on the graphics (or at least, trying to make my mind on what the metaroom should look like).

What I don't know yet is how big the world will be. I don't think it needs to be very tall, but treehuggers like to have some space so it should probably be larger than a screen.

Sounds interesting, yeah that would be cool... That's one reason i haven't played with the treehuggers much, was the lack of a nice thematic metaroom for them... keep in mind they don't like to use elevators much, maybe give them alternatives like staircase type things or maybe doors in the tree trunk that go up and down levels.

They like to use teleporters I think. I should probably use this kind of agent if I manage to pass the first steps. :-)

Yeah, portals would work well... not sure how those work with CA links though. Can they follow a CA through something classified as a portal? Either way, whatever they end up classified as, I think it would be cute to have like holes or doors in a big tree trunk or branch they go in, and then come out of another one somewhere on a different level, so it's kind of like there is a little pretend elevator or staircase or system of tunnels inside the tree they seem to be using.

Of course, this is just a personal wish of mine in something I'd like to see in a metaroom someday, don't feel like you have to do it... I'm sure you have your own ideas. But either way, I can probably help with coding the agents involved with the metaroom. I'm just not very confident of my skills with the graphical side of things.

I'm not sure I will manage to do something like that (though it sounds awesome) as it's my first real metaroom, but I've started to work on the background (I've tried three or four different designs to see which one I prefered) and I'm hoping to finish the background next week (I am a migraine sufferer though, so it may take a bit longer).

The metaroom should have 4 levels, but not all will be as wide as the picture.

I am almost done with the background. Tizion, another French fan, got me lots of sprites to make it look better, but I'm still struggling with it.

I tried my improved version of the metaroom today, I thought I got the mapping right but the wooden walkway parts are broken so I'll give it another try. I'll post a video of it as soon as possible. :-)

Update: I tried the metaroom in my world, it's working. Now I'm looking for an empty space to put it so that it won't break anyone's game. I doubt I'll find one but I'll give it a try.

I have to admit that I haven't been able to work on this project for the past two weeks because we found rodents in my flat (which is clean, you can imagine how surprise I was) so I had to clean it every single day and didn't sleep well. Luckily, my family is going to help me with that problem soon so hopefully I'll start working on the metaroom again.

I've been looking a bit at cos files, it's not the easiest thing to do but I'm impatient to learn.

I'd highly recommend taking a look at this tutorial, especially part 4, if you haven't already. There's a script they explain there that will make the in-game map like 50 times bigger, which makes it way easier to find a spare space for your room. Virtually all of the newer metarooms I've seen include this script (including mine). Definitely a lifesaver.

***MASSIVE UPDATE***

Hi everyone !

First, thanks Ghosthande, I've been reading this tutorial very often, it's quite useful.

So, after months of inactivity due to classes and feeling miserable, I've finally reinstalled the map editor thingy and I am working on my metaroom again. I'm still struggling with the easy parts but I'm not giving up.
