Strangeo Forum CCSF 2014 Story, (Story Generator Game)    Chaotic Spriter mea     5/14/2014 Inspired by the recent Creations (Story Generator Game), I thought I might try something similar for the CCSF. Let the community suggest several characters, & then I'll try to write up a story that will be released during this year's CCSF, possibly as one piece, possibly as several parts released throughout the festival. What I will be doing a bit different with this version of the Story Generator game is that I will be describing a little bit of the setting that the story will take place in, & you are free to suggest extra things to happen in the story as well some of the characters that will be in the story. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part of the story will be taking place in a Shee spaceship, while it is floating through space, part of it will be on an escape pod, & the rest of it will likely take place on a space pirate ship & a captured observation ship of some unknown alien type. One of the characters that will be in the story will be 'Surprise' a strange hybrid that I had mentioned in my description of the character I submitted to the Creations (Story Generator Game). Two of the other characters will be a pair of phantom/ghost norns(norns that are similar to Grendel Man's Moonshadow grendels) that were trapped in the escape pod with her.   Prodigal Sock Ghosthande     5/14/2014  1 Neat! Name: Alta Gender: Male Age: Adolescent Species: Norn Looks: Like your typical Osiris Norn, with muted colors and black stripes, except he has a very fluffy tufted tail. Personality: A bit brash, but generally civil. Likes: Being rly high up. Dislikes: Being wet. He has an unfortunate mutation that gives him a "wet dog smell" whenever his fur is damp. Abilities: Sure-footed like a cat, you'd think he had been raised by squirrels.   Zweitausend   5/14/2014 Oh, we can actually add characters to this? In that case, I'd like to contribute as well! Name: Catherine Gender: Female Age: Adult Species: Desert Ettin Looks: She's a regular Desert Ettin with short, fuzzy fur, a braid of cream colored hair that reaches down her back almost to her hips and long bangs that hang into her face when she doesn't pin them to the sides. She looks thin to the point of being malnourished, but she's actually quite healthy and fairly strong. Personality: Very polite and curteous, but generally shy and would rather be approached than approach anyone herself. She has a strong will, however, and once she set her mind to something, she gets it done. She's been raised never to insult anyone and would rather keep quiet than speak to people she doesn't like. Likes: Finding gadgets, taking gadgets, stealing gadgets, pushing gadgets, pulling gadgets, hitting gadgets, eating gadgets (or at least trying to)... I think you get the idea. She also likes tea, cookies, kittens, the scent of vanilla and freshly baked bread, malachite, the colors blue and yellow as well as the sound those big church bells make. Dislikes: Forced small talk, others stealing "her" gadgets, bugs, apples, cursing, small and cramped rooms, bathing (try getting motor oil out of your fur!), screaming children and the buzzing of insects. Abilities: She can knit fairly well and isn't afraid of getting her hands dirty - as long as she doesn't have to wash them afterwards!   Code Monkey evolnemesis   5/15/2014 Name: George Gender: Male Age: Adult Species: Bengal Norn Looks: Typical Bengal looks, except tends towards being alternately cross-eyed or wall-eyed, due to an odd habit of never wanting to look directly at anyone. He has to always have his attention on something else whenever talking to someone, but he has learned to try and be polite by at least making it look like one of his eyes is looking at them. Personality: Due to a rare brain mutation, George is a very mixed-up but friendly norn, who tends to always end up doing almost the exact opposite of whatever action he tries to do. He's learned to compensate for this by looking at something else besides whatever he really wants to look at while doing things, and trying to do whatever he wanted to do to that object instead... For example, if he wants to walk up to a creature, he will either look at some object near them and try to retreat from it, or look at something random in the other direction and try to walk up to it. If he wants to face someone and talk to them, he imagines he's talking to something behind him, which is what leads to his odd cross-eyed look. If he wants to pick up something in front of him, he will look at and try to pick up something else totally unrelated which is behind him, and so on. Likes: Giving strange random advice to others which only makes sense to him, retreating from weather, eating grendels, approaching detritus, pulling toys. Really, anything totally random that he's learned to try to do in order to do whatever he really wants, which is a mystery to others most of the time. Dislikes: Nobody really knows for sure, since whenever he says he hates or likes something, he either doesn't care about it and is thinking about or looking at something else totally different, or he really feels the opposite way about it. Abilities: He is really good at confusing the heck out of anyone who watches him or listens to him, also comes up with unique ideas and solutions to problems that usually make no sense to anyone else, but often turn out to be really ingenious (at least if you can figure out what he was really trying to say). "We are a way for the cosmos to know itself." - Carl Sagan   Patient Pirate ylukyun Manager   5/15/2014 Name: Doug Gender: Male Age: Middle Aged Adult Species: Worker Ettin Appearance: Doug has blue fur with graying blue head hair and a few patches of his fur have fallen out. He has one glass eye that is a slightly different shade of red to his real one, and he is pot bellied, with a big bum even for an Ettin. Can sometimes be found covered in a thin layer of dirt and mud. Personality: Doug appears very gruff but once you get to know him he is incredibly kind and sweet. Fiercely loyal and hates injustice. He can be your best friend or worst enemy. He is also quite intelligent but is uneducated and illiterate. Refuses to talk about how he came to be on the ship, and will immediately change the subject. Likes: Friends, food, gardening, telling stories. Dislikes: Injustice and people who have wronged his friends, talking about his past or how he came to be on the ship, snakes. Abilities: Doug has a green thumb. His ability to bring plants back from the brink of death is almost supernatural. His stories, of which he has many, are very engaging. Nobody is quite sure which ones are true, which are embellished, and which are made up of whole cloth, but he never seems to forget a story.   VioletGrendel   5/15/2014 Name: Athena Gender: Female Age: Child Species: Shee Looks: Has a short tail, brown fur and green eyes. Personality: Athena was raised by a pair of grendels when her mother absentmindedly forgot about her egg. Athena thinks herself a grendel but is far gentler than her foster family. She shows the brilliant Shee intelligence even at such a young age, and leads the grendel pack in a quest for knowledge. Athena is young, impetuous but gentle, and very curious. Likes: Grendels, things that engage her interest. Dislikes: Violence, wasps, honey. Abilities: Athena owns a rare set of ancient Banshee swords, and has learnt how to use them. They were how she came to the top of her grendel tribe. What is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything? 42!   KittyTikara     5/15/2014 Name: Balmora Gender: Female Age: Immortal youth Species: Vampyre Grendel Looks: Vampyre Grendel with Draconian arms. Has blueish-white hair though. Personality: Balmora was made to be an old Shee's assistant, and to help around the ship. She is always bored, and always looking for something to do. Being so old has left her a bit scatterbrained. She can remember what she was doing most of the time, but not under stress. She did better when she was helping out her creator, but he was an old Shee when he created her and has since died. She doesn't trust Ettins, but she doesn't hate them either. She likes helping out, but being in control is pretty stressful for her. She knows a lot about older spaceships, but hasn't kept up with recent models. She can't fight at all, and would rather play dead or run away. Has lived long enough that she sometimes forgets things. Likes: Technology, tinkering, space, being patted on the head, helping out, and toys. Dislikes: Ettins (always stealing her gadgets), fighting, escape pods, and being in control. Abilities: Can glide with her wings, but not fly. She can technically fly a spaceship on her own, but is deathly afraid of doing so alone. She can play dead really, really well. The Mobula Ray - My Creatures blog   Chaotic Spriter mea     5/15/2014 Hmmm.... quite an interesting cast of characters already. It will be rather interesting to work them into the story. Quick question for everyone... would you prefer to see the story being shared here while it is being worked on, or would you prefer to have it be a complete & total surprise when it is released during the CCSF? If I share it on here while I am working on it, then it will be easier for you to suggest things that might happen during the story, especially when I get stuck & the version that I submit to the CCSF will be a revised & edited version of the story.   VioletGrendel   5/15/2014 I think you should share it here. But maybe it should only be available to people who've contributed,if that's possible? My reason is that I have seen lots of good story's collapse because either people lost interest in them or they got terrible writer's block. I am a hopeful author, so could help if you got stuck. Hmmm.... Just a small test... I'm wondering if using this color (or a color very close to it) would work for hiding the story so that it isn't spoiled for the CCSF?.... I already have two different ideas for her villainy...   Chaotic Spriter mea     5/26/2014 Well, here is the first part of the rough draft... it's rather small but I have to stop & get my stuff ready for work right now. I'll have more time over the next several days to work on it. [Spoiler : Don't highlight the text below if you want the story to remain a surprise for the CCSF] Part 1 "Ghost! Fog! Stop hiding & running off, it scares me when you do that!" Surprise wandered the hallways of the ship, looking for the two baby norns & trying to avoid the attention of the occasional Shee that she saw. The expressions on the faces of the Shee when they saw her always upset her. Sometimes they looked at her with pity or annoyance which weren't that bad, but it was when they looked at her with fear & disgust or even completely ignored her as if she wasn't there that it really hurt. It was easier to hide in the robes one of the nicer Shee had given her, that it was to bear those painful looks. At least with the robes, the Shee usually mistook her for a half grown Shee rather than... the strange thing she was. Sometimes they'd even offer her a cup of tea, or a biscuit... until she reached out to accept the food & they saw her scaled hands. Then they usually jumped & screamed, dropping the tea & biscuits. It was funny the first few times it happened, but when you loose count of how many times they have done that, it stops being so funny, especially when those biscuits smell so tasty. She shivered as she heard one of the more grumpy Shee growling in his lab, & she pulled her robes tighter around her scaled body & tried to sneak past his lab, breathing a sigh of relief only when she was much further away from his section of the hallway. At least today he didn't have that horrible mud turret set up she thought to herself. He said it was for keeping the grendels & ettins out of his lab, but as often as it attacked her when she was just trying to walk past his lab to go somewhere else, he must have rigged it to attack her as well. Angrily she kicked a small gadget & winced when she heard it clang off of one of the machines, a yelp of surprise startling her. A tall striped norn jumps out from behind the machine, looking in the opposite direction for several seconds before turning & looking at her. She smiles slightly as she recognizes the bengal norn. "George! Did you see two baby norns come running past here?" she asks as she walks toward him. George starts to look down at the floor before looking up at her, he may be a full grown norn, but she was still quite a bit taller than him. He shakes his head, stops & starts nodding instead, as he answers "George see norn." "Which way did they go?" "Norn hungry for detritus, George suggest hit weed, eat grendel" George points in direction of the Ettin Desert as Surprise gasps & starts running, not noticing that he was looking in the direction of the Norn Terriarum. "Oh no! I have to find them before they get hurt or sick. Bye George! Thank you!" she calls over her shoulder as she runs down the hallway. Let's see how lost she gets next time... & feel free to post suggestions for stuff to happen, more characters for her to meet, or any other suggestions & ideas that you think might be useful. You can have more than one character in the story if you want. I still have a pirate ship to populate as well.   Zweitausend   5/26/2014 I don't want to spoiler myself, so I didn't read the story, but here's two characters. Do with them as you see fit! ----------------------- Name: Tamara Gender: female Age: adult Species: Hardman Norn Looks: Her fur is somewhat curly. She is covered in battle scars and her right ear is a little torn from an "argument" with an immense Banshee Grendel. Personality: Tamara is actually quite even tempered for a Hardman, but that doesn't stop her from solving problems with violence. She is a little absent minded and tends to forget what she was going to do. Likes: Her son Edwin, fighting, saxophones and chili pepper tea with lemon. Dislikes: Grendels, stinky cheese and the color purple. Abilities: She's a real Grendel killer. After all, that's what she was bred for. ----------------------- Name: Edwin Gender: male Age: child Species: Hardman Norn Looks: His fur is slightly curly just like his mother. Personality: Edwin is a hot-headed little monster who likes to pick fights with norns twice his size. Only his mother Tamara can keep him from completely losing his temper. Likes: Fighting, fighting and fighting. He's unusually aggressive, even for a Hardman. Dislikes: Wasps, vegetables and Calm Balm. Abilities: He already knows a couple of words. Most of them have to do with hitting things or creatures.   VioletGrendel   5/28/2014 Name: Oderan Gender: Male Age: Adult Species: Banshee Looks: Oderan is your typical banshee. He wears long robes with a deep hood, his uniform as he is the captain of a starship Personality: Oderan is fairly cool and collected, as most banshees are. He is touchy about his family, as he is not a noble, but lowborn. All those above and below him are noble born, and look down on him as coming from common stock. Likes: Stimulating problems, books, fighting, defeating his enemies. Dislikes: Most other banshee, shee, norns and ettins. Abilities: Oderan is a very good shot, and can aim and fire in under five seconds. He is also good at navigation and reading starmaps. Oderan would make a pretty good villain, I think.
