Possible creature cloning post-mortem?

So after the failure of two of my creatures in the daily creature feature, i saw that i still had the codes for my creatures on my computer, and that i could theoretically "clone" them by simply copy-pasting them back into the "my creatures" folder and not overwriting any existing copies of the two.

So, thinking further about this, i looked back through their paternal heritage and came across this:

The creature-code for Gren, a.k.a. "Old Man Pimp", a creature who lived a healthy life of ten hours (possibly assisted by life injections) and sired eighteen offspring before his final days, effectively shaping the entire species in his image from it's humble beginnings as a widely diverse serise of norn/grendle and norn/ettin hybrids.

Seeing that, i immediately looked at the "my creatures" files again and saw...

They had the exact same codes in their names.

So, my question to you is this. Is it possible to re-code one of these other norns into a clone of the most successful norn I’ve ever had? would it be as simple as re-naming the document, or would i need to open the creatures file somehow and re-type it myself?

I went ahead and fixed the tags for you. :)

For cloning this norn, one way you can go about it is to open up his genome in the Genetics Kit and inject it as an egg from the "Export" menu. If I had more time I'd take pictures to show you what I mean.

Another is to use some kind of agent that lets you inject an egg into the world using just the name of the gene. You can actually rename his genome file to make this simpler. The Portable Egg Layer is a good agent for this. The only thing is, the gene file needs to be in your Creatures 3/Docking Station > Genetics folder and you need to know the name of the genome.

As for finding his genetic code (which you'll need), you need to go to Docking Station/Creatures 3 > My Worlds > "World Name" > Genetics. Once you're in the folder, find the file name with the moniker that matches his moniker in the first image and save a copy somewhere so you know where to find it and so it doesn't just up and disappear in the event that your world corrupts or has to be deleted for some reason.

A lot of that sounds like he needs to be alive to do most of it, when he's been dead for quite some time already. i was under the assumption that the Monkier WAS his genetic code as there seemed to be a unique one for every creature i have so far. also sounds like i'll need a few downloaded agents i don't have. as well my genetics folder only displays ten or so monkiers, none of wich match his sadly.

So i can't just change the coding/name of an existing creature file and then import it? Dang, starting to look like i won't be able to bring this guy back after all.

thanks for fixing the images by the way.

I'm sorry, but I don't know of any other way than using his genetics file. :C Maybe someone else on the forum knows more, though? Good luck with this!

i believe that even dead creatures have their genetics in the genetica folder.

Uhm, sorry, it might be that we misunderstand each other, but I don't think you mean the "right" thing... The genetic code of a creature is the .gen file (when exported, it is packed into the .creature file).

What you seem to mean, things like "002-fern-gkqaz-8gx7n-psn7p-yuw7v", are the moniker. They sadly have nothing to do with the genetics at all. They are almost utterly random. First comes the generation, then comes a random word and finally gibberish. This random word is picked from one of 4 lists and merely indicates which species we are dealing with (norn, ettin, grendel, geat). Fern is one of the words from the norn-list, so all that "002-fern-gkqaz-8gx7n-psn7p-yuw7v" tells us is that it is a gen 2 norn.
The moniker's purpose is to identify creatures for things like the family tree and the creatures history, making stuff like import/export or who-impregnated-who actually trackable.
It is not, and I guess you meant that, something like a seed for a random generator to produce creatures.

In other words: the moniker is definitely not what you are looking for, at least not in this context. Reproducing this precise moniker in another creature would just mess up the creatures history window.
In order to clone your little fella, you must hope to still find a genetics file itself. It is labelled as (moniker goes here).gen, but once you found it, you can rename it as well and then treat it as the others pointed out already.
