Avoiding Timed Vending When Carried?

So we know that we want to avoid using the timer script to vend one item from another when the original item is being carried, otherwise you end up with a situation like this when carrying the mature carrot would cause it to make a baby carrot when far enough away from the other carrots.

I've seen some timer scripts go
doif carr ne null
stop
endi

ie. it checks if it's being carried and then just stops the timer.

and I've seen some timer scripts go

scrp blah blah blah 9
doif carr eq null
etc.

so it only continues with the rest of the timer if it is not being carried.

Is there a difference in performance, etc. between the two approaches or is it just a case of personal preference?

I don't really see any performance differences. In both cases it will only perform a single doif and either run normally or instantly stop.
