Hey guys, I'd really love to learn how to make decorative agents for the garden box. I found the guide on Garden Box Central, but I'm having trouble understanding it because I don't know the first thing about agents and I feel like the guide assumes a little bit.
I'd probably be trying to work it out regardless, except I can't find a valid download of PRAYbuilder. Halp.
Sigh. Why do I do this to myself? I found it on Tree, hopefully I'll be back with a proper agent soon. |

I find Jagent nicer to use than PRAYbuilder. You'll need Java for it, but it comes with a spritebuilder and a PRAYbuilder too.
Jagent's PRAYbuilder (better known as "Monk" ) can also decompile agents back into their components. This way you can examine how others made their stuff. Some people might not want it, though.
Feel free to look into my stuff, just keep your fingers off Thime. It is supposed to be a surprise to people who use it
When you find my scripts chaotic or strange at some point, feel free send a PM.
Also keep in mind that not all people might have good coding styles. It's partially a question of personal taste, but some things are simply a no-go. MK-Grendel's stuff for example uses pretty weird classifier numbers which get transformed back into smaller numbers (modulo 65536 if you're a bit into maths) which may cause conflicts.
A list of classifiers can be found here on CCaves

I second using Monk over PRAYbuilder; my agents didn't always compile properly with the latter!
To be honest, maybe Garden Box agents are a little bit advanced for a beginner. I know that I started off by creating a few simple agents before I moved onto patch plants. I'm not saying that you shouldn't bother trying, but if you begin by coding basic agents first, you'll learn so much that way. You add more to your CAOS repertoire with every agent you create, which stands you in good stead for when you move onto the trickier stuff, i.e. Garden Box decorations and patch plants!
I'd start off with AquaShee's CAOS Chaos tutorials and go from there. And don't hesitate to ask all the questions you need to at the Hack Shack and in the Development forum; that's what they're there for! |

I did write a brief walkthrough on updating the Shee Pears, but it's also not for beginners in level. There are also a few good resources in here that will help - the more you explore and use CAOS, the easier it gets.
For decorative agents in the GB, most of the work is in the sprite file, the actual code for the agent is very bare-bones.

I learned better by modifying existing code first and see the results instead of starting by 0.
Once I understood some of the stuff going on there, I started making own objects.
