Some of you may have noticed how down everyone seems lately, and I think a pick-me-up thread is in order. Are you feeling down and blue? Does the sky seem greyer today? Well, c'mere luv, relax, have a nice hot cuppa, and take a little stroll on the brighter side of things. Feel the little rays of sunshine.
A little like this lovely thread, only here we can share a bit of good news, happy stories, words of encouragement, or just something that happened to-day that made you smile. They say happiness is contagious, after all! ![[nsmile] [nsmile]](/images/smilies/emot_smile.gif)

I've finally started feeling sane again. XD The thing that probably made me happiest today was doing yard work out front. The act of raking leaves and sweeping the driveway itself isn't what made me happy, but being greeted by friendly neighbors is just the thing I need sometimes.
I also got to talk to my two besties -ever- this morning, one after the other and even got to save my husband when he rolled up on a gas station on his bike and forgot his wallet.

It's great that things seem more positive lately. This topic is a wonderful idea as while it's nice to be able to vent, it's also good to be able to share our encouraging experiences too! |

I prefer rain and grey skies, they make me feel happy and at ease!
However, I do notice the emotions of people, they seem at a low point, like collectively a lot of humanity is at a low swing.

I got to spend the entire day napping and gaming with the hubby. We haven't spent quality time like this in a long while.

While it didn't make me bouncey happy, this poem really did help me a lot, and give me a real sense of relief that cleared other stuff out the way and allowed happiness to come through. It's by Mary Oliver, and is called "Wild Geese". You could make the first 3 lines a mantra.
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting –-
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things. |

That is... a beautiful poem. Perhaps the most beautiful I've ever read. Thank you for sharing it, Nutter. ;w;
As for a ray of sunshine... I was able to spend some wonderfully relaxing time with my significant other today. I hadn't seen him in a couple of days because of work, so I had missed him quite a bit - and my shift yesterday was rather unbelievably stressful. Being able to finally just cuddle up together and enjoy each other's company gave me such a sense of peace. UwU <3

Wow, that is a great poem Nutter, and so true.
I got to buy some great things at the anime convention I went to, a new shirt, a big, cute, soft cat plushie pillow thing, and the whole series of Kino's Journey and the movie Summer Wars. My friend actually bought Kino's Journey for me, and made me something out of clay. It was kind of her!

That's a lovely poem, Nutter.
I'm about to go pick up some older lady dogs for baby sitting. I'll be watching them for ten days. It's going to be horrible for my allergies since they both have long hair and shed something fierce. Still, I'll be brushing and vacuuming daily so it should be manageable. On top of that, I'll have dog hair that's long enough to spin into yarn. XD

Nutter, that poem made me cry because I've been having another sort of bad day and that picked me right up. Thank you. *hug*
Today my first textbook for my new school came in and it's about storytelling in video games. Not that it's very exciting to anyone else, but it made me happy. ^^
Another good thing that happened today was when I was playing Pokémon LeafGreen. I caught Zapdos, if anyone knows what that means. Haha, yay. |

Aw, I'm glad it helped folks.
Talking about storytelling in video games made me think of Scratch - I don't know if anyone here has come across it, but a number of the teachers I know rate it. |

That's great, Ilaezha! Sounds like the most awesome textbook.
Also ooh Zapdos! I love that legendary bird trio.
I have a cold but things aren't going that badly otherwise, so nothing stress related. I'm excited to save up for a 3DS and try getting the upcoming Pokemon game.

Sometimes there is that one song that makes you happy just hearing it... For me, that would be this wonderful gem! It's a silly 80s song that's just so ridiculously happy. I didn't know the words until this video (which just shows the lyrics) but it's a lovely pick-me-up!
I know it's not everyone's style, but I love blasting this song! It's a great song to just feel happy and silly about... And I may or may not also pair it with some silly chair dancing. Ha ha!

Well this is really lovey-dovey, but it really helped me see something important.
Anyway, yesterday after i quit my job i was kinda sad and just had a bitter taste in my mouth from it all, so i went to go be with my significant other to help quell that feeling. While i was there, I started feeling like the feelings i were having and the fact that i ended up venting them to him were being burdensome - so i apologized, saying i was sorry i'd been bringing my problems into his life so often. But then he said something which made me see what he was seeing, and it made everything okay. He said: "It's okay - you don't have to be happy all the time. I love you. Not the image of you, or the idea of you, but you."
That was very clarifying, and made me see that you should be able to fully express every facet of yourself around someone who truly loves you, even the negative ones, because they won't think of you any differently when you do. :3 I thought it was worth sharing because it's an important realisation for anyone to have.

Had to share this... my friend Cathy does laughter workshops, and was interviewed about laughing on local TV recently. Our friend Matt edited all her interviewed bits out of an otherwise pretty grim programme, and put it on YouTube. |

I want to do laughter therapy! It sounds fantastic. My friend/neighbour has an infectious laugh, so when she gets going everyone else around her does too; it's definitely the best medicine sometimes. The amount of times I've gone to her house feeling close to tears and come out again laughing. |

Well, you can book Cathy to do a laughter workshop; she travels around. Though I suppose it would have to be school holidays now she's got the job as a TA. |

My friends help me feel better when I'm down. The fact they care makes me want to cheer up faster for their sake, so they won't have to feel bad that I'm feeling down. They know I'm a rambler, but they don't mind. We vent things together, help each other find solutions, and have fun goofing off or planning fun things together. I really miss them when they're not around; I hope everyone gets free time again soon.
